the more I pay attention to what I put in my mouth, the more I realize majority of us aren't eating food; we are only eating "food-like" products... grin

Haven't been here in a while so lemme give a quick chronological update on my food-fitness journey... cheesy

- stopped drinking soda, fizzy drinks, juice etc.

- stopped drinking milk

- stopped eating red meat

-stopped eating white meat, eggs and seafood (this was hard)

- stopped eating anything that doesn't grow

-stopped eating anything with more than one ingredient.

It took me 1.5 years to get here, but I'm happy with the progress. It might exteme for most people to stop eating all the food I listed, however, I live in a country where real food is becoming a myth. Everything is processed. Expiration dates on food products are getting extended. Cancer is at an all time high; even if you don't have it in your genes you have a high risk of getting cancer in this country; thanks to the food . It's scary.

So, yh, that's about it. grin
I'll cut myself some slack anytime I travel out of the country.

really? Wow

Get into the habit of reading food labels. I bet a granola bar contains over 20g of sugar, if you eat 2 bars you have just downed 4og od sugar but you believe the lie that it is a low calorie alternative.

- stopped eating red meat (Tick. Yep)

calcium---- from dark leafy greens, soybeans, nuts, and fruits.

-stopped eating things with more than one ingredients; means I stopped eating anything processed food. If I check the ingredient list and I see more than one name, then it's a "no" for me.
For example, how many ingredients are in sweet potatoes? One!
How many ingredients are in almonds? One!
Basically, whole foods... cave-man style.

I follow these rules 90% of the time though, not always. I give myself room to indulge. When I go to restaurants or a get-together, rules don't really apply. cheesy No fizzy drinks, though-- ever!!! lipsrsealed

Wow .... I attended a session with a nutritionist and she said quite a lot of what you said up there esp around eating more foods that grow.her exact words were 'eat like a human'. when we asked what she meant she said food that we were eating back in the stone ages embarassed

I even have a chart she gave us on my kitchen wall .. It's just a bit hard though and not easily attainable for everyone. She advised taking it one at a time though and making lil changes one day at a time.

I have also cut out completely the first 2 things and rarely eat red meat anymore.

Coco read those labels the sugar content is outta here.. I also used to buy them to snack on even still have like 3 in my desk at work (speaking of which i need to either bin or give out tomorrow). since started paying more attention I realised that's it low calorie but the calories are not the right ones .. So instead of them il started going for plain oats with no milk and whole fruits.(banana summer fruits etc)The sugar content in dried fruits sef na waya.

How about flaxseed, blueberries and almond blended for breakfast. You can switch the fruits as you please or add poppy seeds. Omelettes are great, add lean chicken cubes, some bacon or fish as the spirit leads grin.

Lean bolognese sauce can be eaten with sweet potatoes, yams, small rice portions. Swap with chillis - add red kidney beans for a different taste.

Baked moinmoin are great too, very little oil if you wish.

I don't really do diets and I prefer to drink my salad than eat it as you know, the only big change I made to my diet is reduce my carb intake drastically. I did not eat bread and pasta for about 8 months, it was hard o, come see withdrawal symptoms orisirisi shocked but I am over it now. I eat bread very occasionally now and don't bother with pasta at all anymore.

Great ideas.. I think I will make a batch of moi moi over the weekend, freeze and defrost as at when needed

You want to snack try oatcakes. I often eat with this Canella cheese and salmon. Load up on nuts, make your own flapjacks with peanut butter too

I am glad you ended on this note grin, well thanks to British Farmers-we do have very healthy red meat. And just yesterday there were a morning show on BBC1 Red meat is a good source of iron, and meat is also one of the main sources of vitamin B12. WhenWhen buying meat, go for the leanest option. As a rule, the more white you can see on meat, the more fat it contains

Red meat was the topic of the day and it was strongly recommended.

Farmer her in the UK use natural grass to feed their animals and we do have very natural fresh milk and cheese.

Sorry Babe not trying to knock you out here,i do respect your choices.....was just trying to fill in some important information. kiss

You see what i like about healthy eating is that there is no straight rule, you keep trying until you get what works for you.
Many of the personal trainers i read, have all those stuff you cut out on their diet.
I am gonna show you two of my friends, they are my trainers, they give me a hard time in the gym.Holla @me when you are around.

I am currently following Denise diet, the black lady. She is all about protein....

But girl it's time to show that body of yours wink

I am actually getting used to the taste of oatcakes... minus the cheese though never been a fan of ANY form of cheese both common and posh.

Nuts are my go to snack and I like most of them i.e. almonds, brazil nuts, hazel nuts , pecan etc. I try to limit it to 25g or less a day though.
