No!.I haven't , mainly because of this reason. My problem is even if I get new passport , my marriage certificate is still carrying wrong date of birth the mistake was done during our marriage church interview and they carried it over to secure marriage certificate in registry . I don't know if when applying I can attach explanatory letter on the wrong date of birth on my marriage certificate.

So, wait, why would you get a new passport if it's your marriage certificate that's incorrect? Is your date of birth incorrect on both your passport and your marriage certificate? And it's different on both documents?

You should present us a passport that shows your correct date of birth. It's more important for your passport to be correct than your marriage certificate. You can always explain to the officer that the date on the certificate is incorrect, but you shouldn't present an identity document like a passport if you know it's not accurate.

Good evening Dear VO,
Hope you're good Ma. Ma please my mum filled for me and my category is f1.

1) Please who is supposed to fill the DS 260 form; myself or my mum?

2) Again please can one pay and have his green card processing started even before entering the US?

3) Lastly, please how long approximately does it take to get ones green card?

Many thanks Ma.

1. Either of you, but it's probably easier for your mom to do it.

2. Yes. USCIS likes people to pay before they travel. They won't issue your green card until the fee is paid.

3. No idea. I only know about the things that happen outside the U.S. smiley

There is a separate thread for Non-Immigrant Visa Questions, also handled by U.S. Foreign Service Officers serving in Nigeria, at https://www.nairaland.com/1792662/u.s-non-immigrant-visas-listening . Please use this thread right here solely for questions about Immigrant Visas and Diversity Visas.

I had to take lots of beverage to understand this. Its clearer now though. So no spill overs from previous years. One more question please, a friend wants to know what happens if a USCIS RFE is submitted 2days after the deadline? What's your take on this?

Did the beverage involve caffeine or alcohol? smiley

I don't know what USCIS's policy is with late responses. I'd imagine they're pretty strict, though.

Have a blessed day. God bless.

Speaking of the bellow, will it be proper to present photos of traditional marriage along side with the
Church wedding photo at the interview as a proof of mmarriage?

VisaOfficer:

There shouldn't be any confusion. If the officer seems to want to question you, just remind him or her that the petitioner is non-Nigerian, and only Nigerians marry in traditional weddings in Nigeria. (Nairalanders, if that's not true, this is an excellent time to correct me...)

Thank you for your continuous assistance to us on this forum, even when we appear impatient smiley

NVC has contacted me about your approval of my expedited request. Thank you again for that. So are they going to schedule my wife's interview from here in the US or send the case to you for scheduling in Lagos?

Respectfully,

Hello Sir/Ma'am,

I am a US Permanent Resident, though a Nigerian Citizen. I have applied to remove the conditions on my permanent residency - the application has been sent in prior to the expiration of my two-year permanent residency card - and I am presently in Nigeria. I want to go back home to the US. Can I apply for a boarding foil to go back, and if so, what are the processes and requirements?

It's perfectly normal and appropriate to be impatient! You're waiting for your wife! I get impatient just waiting for a book from Amazon.

It depends how long you've been outside the U.S. If you left less than 12 months ago, you can apply for a boarding foil; if more than 12 months, you should apply for Returning Resident status, which is more complicated and more expensive. Either way, you can ask for an appointment by e-mailing LagosIV@state.gov.

The NVC haven't been taking calls since yesterday cry How do I know when the file gets to Nigeria? NVC received our case last week Monday. We don't know if we have a case number yet. I guess I'll just focus on the consulate here in Nigeria, sigh. Can you give an estimate of when the US embassy here contacts the beneficiary when the file is in. or do we need to have our case number to follow up? Thank you. cry

As soon as we receive the file from NVC, we'll contact the petitioner with instructions about making an appointment for an interview. In the meantime, have you been to our website? There's good information for fiance(e)s at http://nigeria.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visa_forms.html .

Hi VO! My fiance just called me that he got through to the NVC! Our case was since sent on the 22 of JULY. I just checked our status and it says ready for interview when scheduled at the US consular section. I'm so excited! I've opened the link you sent and I'll print off the documents at work while I wait for the Consulate to contact me! Is there any other thing I need to do while I wait? I love you VO! cheesy

Thanks so much for your prompt response. Sorry I forgot to mention that. It's been less than 2 (two) months - I actually left sometime last month. But the card expired on June 22.

Is there a link to the documents, as an alternative? I'm a bit confused from the information on the US Embassy Nigeria website. When I request the interview and get one via the email, is there a list of documents that I need to bring along?

Looking forward to receiving the documents.
