Meanwhile, I never knew Petr Cech is also a drummer boy.

@Debosky, @Pataki. I think Sanchez is suited more on the wings. Apart from what Pataki said, Sanchez is creative and loves spaces, he also has the ability to score goals even from tight angles. His physical frame may be a challenge unless he has support as Debosky suggested Walcott.

What I don't get is, the same Wenger who once had Henry, Bergkamp, Kanu and Wiltord in the same team asides the myriad of upcoming young players, is now saying Giroud,Welbeck will win us the league

E go better

What's not to get? Was the strike force that won Chelski the league even comparable to that? Yet they won. Even Citeh's strikeforce the season before wasn't as good as that one up there, yet they won as well.

Not saying Giroud and Welbeck are sufficient y any means, but y'all need to stop making unrealistic comparisons to a bygone time which in all likelihood will never be repeated.

This isn't about comparing the players like for like. It's about the quality available. Despite the quality of Henry, Bergkamp and even Kanu, AW still brought in the highest goal scorer in France at that time - Wiltord and for a record fee too! A record that was not broken till we bought Arshavin 9 years later. And I didn't even mention our youth team players.

Today that same AW is telling us we have enough quality. Where is the quality abeg? Quality when we have to now pray that Giroud finds his scoring boots and doesn't get injured till at least Christmas?

I will like to see our team list when we play in the League Cup and FA Cup. Would we risk starting Giroud in those games too or will Alexis be our go to man or even Walcott?

Again putting it in perspective, before this current set we had a team with RVP, Adebayour, Eduardo. That is without including Bendtner, Vela, Jay Simpson and others who played in the League Cup and some FA Cup games when called upon. Interestingly even at that time, we didn't think it was sufficient especially after Edu's injury.

So I don't get how AW can look at his past strikeforce and current one in terms of available quality and still say he's fine with what he has.

If the agonizing goal drought persists, I am very open to Sanchez playing the CF position, i don't believe the one game experiment playing that position is enough to judge a player of his quality, he has the technique, intelligence, pace and agility in front of goal and is more efficient even if it means giving the goalie something to work on.

Amongst our Wing Forwards/ Midfielders Sanchez has the highest propensity to succeed as a CF so why not? Another player I would love to see given a chance is young Joel Campbell, yes I said it..Joel Campbell, this is most likely his last chance with Arsenal and I think he needs opportunities to prove he can ply for this team.

Lastly I would love to see Oxlade start against Stoke City on Saturday, he has been terrific and deserves a starting role.

Very true, we seem to have forgotten about Joel Campbell. He even gave an assist for his national team some days ago.

We need to just focus on our game on Saturday and the goals will come naturally.

I haven't visited this thread in a while but i hope you folks are pleased with Monsieur Wenger transfer dealings.Bringing in enigmatic 'striker' OwnGoal Escobar has got to be his biggest deal yet.2 goals in 4 games is not bad considering he's got more goals than Alexis Sanchez, Eden Hazard, Sergio Aguero and Wayne Rooney all put together. All without paying penny.Who knows at this rate he might just end up being Arsenal's highest goalscorer come the end of the season! grin

I'm not even sure Wenger rates him as an option. This is what AW said about our striking options:

“It is about the efficiency and the quality of our game, we can score goals and I am not worried about that. We have Alexis, we have Giroud and we have Walcott. It is a massive opportunity for them of course.”

And yes ofcourse we will score goals. That's besides the point. We struggled massively last season when Giroud was injured/off form. I thought AW would have learnt from that and brought in someone with similar style. Yet here we are hoping and praying OG (Olivier Giroud, not Own Goal tongue) doesn't get injured and stays fit

You're completely missing the point by name-checking again. You're calling names of players, not relaying how many goals they scored nor the league position we finished in.

With Giroud and the current crop we finished 3rd last season and scored a mere 3 goals less than the champions with 71 league goals. If the gap with the current crop to the champions was 3 goals, why are you so confident that the issue is needing more strikers?

How many goals and what league position did your illustrious set above achieve to make you think they were better?

if Wenger didn't rate him, he'd have been sold or sent on loan like Sanogo.

There is enough quality - provided you're not relying overly on strikers for goals, which is what Wenger has been saying since the start of the season. He wants more goals from his midfielders and is looking for an improvement there. Even with how 'terrible' Giroud was last season, I repeat we only scored 3 goals less than the champions.

My assertion is that a team scoring only 3 goals less than the champions cannot be described as not having quality.

Campbell will get his opportunity in the cups, so will Walcott at CF. I agree we are short on numbers with Welbeck's injury - that's my main issue; However since we didn't let Campbell leave on loan and actually have Walcott fit right now, numbers-wise we're slightly better upfront than we were last season at this stage.

Lets keep it in perspective, Wenger didn't say the current strike force are the best but that they are the best he can get for now until someone spectacular shows up.

I think Wenger wants to spread the goal scoring burden accross the team. He said the likes of Ozil and Ramsey should contribute 10goals each.

The wonderful thing about this Arsenal team is that you never know who is going to step up their game. When van Persie left, Ramsey started scoring goals like as if he was playing 'set'. When Debuchy got injured, Hector stepped up his game. When our DM was in total confusion, a Francis Coquelin was retrieved from his loaned club and he stepped up his game.

The opportunity will surely come for Campbell. It is left to him if he can step up to the game when it presents itself.

And that's a "wonderful" thing? Hoping that someone will step up? Ok o.

Anyway, EPL is back so we're back to talking football. My team for tomorrow's game :

Cech
Bellerin, Gabriel, Koscielny, Monreal
Coquelin, Cazorla
Ramsey, Ozil, Alexis
Giroud

It's Stoke. They've got some real good players and we mustn't underrate them
Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: Finally Reborn! The Red & White Army: FA CUP Champions 2020 by Pataki: 11:01am On Sep 11, 2015
^^^At least Wenger has said it several times, if we can solve the problem internally, why should we go and look for the solution externally? More so, the exceptional quality are very scarce to get these days.

Tempted to replace Giroud with Walcott as the CF. But playing against Stokes, we sure need the aerial strength which Giroud is very good at. So I support your team choice selection.

I will say ox shd start dis as counter attacks will be much in dis match...
Stoke are not d same as before dat day depend on aerial ball..
Day also av fast players who move ball..
Either another win nd a clean is achievable

Did u also consider the goals distribution across the season

Remove outlier matches like the games against Newcastle, Stoke, villa x2 and westbrom.. (3 goals or more), this will help you put te myriad of goalless or one goal draws in focus

Pity Hansen copped out - old age

http://www.theweek.co.uk/football/59501/hansen-says-walcott-football-brain-jibe-is-his-one-regret

http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/theo-walcott-has-no-football-brain-says-chris-waddle-6735482.html

What is the meaning of this? I asked you for your opinion, you are posting a news article of 2010. After trawling the internet (googling), this is all you can find?

From the first link you posted, this is what Hansen said:

"Four years ago, I said that Theo Walcott did not have a 'football brain', without realising that my comments would be misinterpreted to such an extent," he said. "The meaning of my observation was not as brutal as it may have come across, but nonetheless, I was critical of Walcott's ability and I am pleased to say that Theo has proved me wrong one million per cent.

"He is a proper player and I have to admit that my comments about him were the only time that I have ever been happy to be wrong."

Apparently, you were too lazy to read the article, you just googled the internet and started posting weblinks. The second weblink you posted from Chris Waddle (2010), who rated Adam Johnson better than Walcott. undecided Seriously?! Where is the so-called Adam Johnson today? Playing for Sunderland. And you expect me to take you serious?

Now try again. Tell me why Walcott should not be called a striker in your own view.
