Case closed. You nailed it and that has been the point we have been trying to convey. cheesy

THUNDER4real:
People argue unnecessarily, :The following are facts:
There's no king given full recognition by the ibos.
Obi of Onitsha is the only recognized king in Nigeria and International wise from the East.
90 to 100% of people living in the East has heard of or know Obi of Onitsha.
96% to 100% of individuals(hausa, yoruba, ijaw, Efik, Tiv etc.) that schooled in Nigeria has heard of or know Obi of Onitsha.

Monarchy makes a people docile, peasant like and subservient. The Obi of Onitcha is a title imported from Bini, the stool of Nri is that of a priest, not a king. The Eze Nri is traditional more like a priest or a Pope than a King. Most of the kingships in Igbo land are from the slave era and were strengthened/validated by the British because it made Igbo people controllable and sellable. Hardly something I aspire to celebrate. The Obi of Onitcha as a man is a man of great stature. His achievements as a man command the highest respect and he carries his culture with the utmost dignity and pride. No disrespect to him or other stools but the practice is very foreign and unnecessary. 99% of these ezes even fail to uphold their culture in their domains. A historic shrine was destroyed by a mad priest in Anambra last month. Tiv, Ijaw, Hausa and Nupe people knowing your name won't bring it back.

Dhugal:

Read what you quoted again and comprehend.I said "IF any traditional ruler from Anambra".Of course,I know there are other pre-colonial natural rulers in many igbo communities not in present day Anambra state.I was even limiting the guy's claim to Anambra state, not the wider Igbo community.
Btw,you don't know there's an Igwe Nnewi?.The longest serving traditional ruler in Nigeria?.

No, I don't. I don't care. We don't talk about Nnewi in my town, as people in that town don't talk about my own. Japan's emperor is the world's oldest, and we'll have a hard time finding someone that can name him w/o Google on this thread which is full of well educated people. and Chino.

Ranting of a dunce.

Obi of Onitsha is the most influential and most powerful KING in Igboland. His dynasty is over 500yrs which makes Onitsha the oldest city after Lagos, because Ajayi Crowther berthed in Onitsha. Accept these FACT or go and kill yourself. Choose one cool

Congrats to the Obi of Onitcha for his celebrity. Asaba is older than Onitcha and Onitcha started as an extension of Asaba. Let everyone play in their own lane

There are lots of things wrong with this thread.

It would appear that the OP can't just celebrate the Onitsha monarchy without denigrating other Igbo monarchies.

Obi onitsha dominion starts and ends in Onitsha, if the OP is really an Igbo, he really should have known this.

He is the Obi of Onitsha and not Obi of Igboland. The moment he steps out of Onitsha is the moment his dominion ends.

You don't go about denigrating an influential king like Eze Ilomuanya, and expect his people( read Igbos from Imo axis) to honour your own king.

By denigrating Eze Ilomuanya, you indirectly put Obi of Onitsha up for denigration by Imo branch of the Igbo. I know that if I were an Imo person, that's exactly what I would have done.

Igbo unity is a fragile piece, we must all learn to put ahead of our sectional/ tribal pride.

You can celebrate the magnificence of Onitsha monarchy and splendor without endangering Igbo unity. Onitsha is the pride of all Igbos, and should be a unity point for us, and not used to put a divide amongst us, all on the altar of superiority complex and overbloated and misdirected pride.

Ka udo chia!

Tell them especially those who carried it like trophy on their head. Obi of Onitsha is a first class king in his own right. The same goes for Eze Nri, Eze Aro, Igwe Orlu and Igwe Nnewi. Their jurisdiction ends in the locality they govern.

With the exception of Eze Nri and maybe Igwe Orizu of Nnewi, remove all those other little kings from the list. We are not talking about rural and inconsequential little kings.

Lol. I know. I was just messing about - OdenigboAroli the NriPriest of old from Omanbala, Odumchi, and Andre_Uweh should be able to tell you that I know more about Igbo history and culture than most Igbo people. We had our time back in the day in the culture section when the section was still golden. Not what it is today.

However, the wrapper reference is always a weapon of choice when Yoruba vs Igbo hostilities resume loool.

Anyway, I have got the Igbotic red cap though. Got it off my darg a few months ago and I wear sometimes when I go to naij parties.

In your dreams. Every Igbo town recognise only their Eze or Igwe as called in Anambra/Enugu axis. The towns of Nri and Arochukwu however at a stage had their Kings recognised beyond their towns but never had authority over other towns like Benin Oba or Alaafin.

The Eze Nri was a priest as well as a king.

religious figurehead would make him a priest. Many villages followed Nri's version of Omenala as taught by Nri priests and came to Nri for spiritual cleansing and oath taking without being under Nri 'jurisdiction'. His role in our history and culture resembles an apex priest more than a King.

These are the most powerful kings of Nigeria(Ooni of Ife, Emir of Kano, Obi of Onitsha and Oba of Benin). You don't mess with them, though some are late but their dynasty is what we are talking about.

Oga sorry o buh u took dis ur obi of onitsha hyping tin 2 far. So u mean the obi of onitsha is higher Dan the alaafin of oyo(one of d foremost west african super powers/empires),olubadan of ibadan(one of the foremost precolonial powers having vast territory/land almost the size of the entire anambra state!!),sultan of sokoto(leader of over 25 million Muslims),tor tiv(ruler of the entire tiv nation stretching from benue, cross river ,plateau nd taraba),olu of warri(entire itsekiri ethnic group),kanem bornu(bornu, some part of Chad, cameroun,)lamido of adamawa. It mostly an historical stuff not just because ur stool is within a metropolis. Is there even any know precolonial stuff bout that stool
I would have no probs if u had just limited it to iboland I doubt if he is even taken serious in onitsha sef not to talk of the entire iboland nd then nigeria abeg don't go there sef.he should robbing shoulders with asagba of asaba
