There are two separate verses in the New Testament that, at first glance, appear to teach against wearing jewelry. The first is 1 Pet 3:3 which reads,

“Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel…”

The second and very similar verse is 1 Tim 2:9 that says,

“In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array…”

But are these scriptures forbidding the use of jewelry by Christians?

A number of holiness-based Christian groups have come to that conclusion, but doing so fails to consider the numerous other passages in the Bible that actually appear to endorse the use of jewelry. In fact, many places in the Bible show that God uses jewelry as a blessing to his children.

One of the first passages in the Bible to deal with jewelry is Gen 24:47, 48 which reads,

“And I asked her, and said, whose daughter art thou? And she said, the daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milcah bare unto him: and I put the earring upon her face, and the bracelets upon her hands. And I bowed down my head, and worshipped the LORD, and blessed the LORD God of my master Abraham, which had led me in the right way to take my master's brother's daughter unto his son.”

Here we have a rather tender story of Abraham's servant giving jewelry to Rebekah, who was the woman God had specially chosen for Isaac. The servant then bows his head and worships God. If jewelry were sinful, his offering it as a gift to Rebekah, and then subsequently worshipping God, would be irreverent and inappropriate.

We find another such example in Gen 41:42, which says,

“And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck...”

Joseph was one of the greatest men of the Old Testament, and God blessed him greatly because of his faithfulness. In this verse, we find Joseph accepting jewelry as a gift from Pharaoh. If God forbade jewelry, undoubtedly, Joseph would have rejected this gift.

David, the man said to be after God’s own heart,1 writes in Ps 25:12,

“As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.”

David compares gold earrings to the way an obedient ear accepts wise instruction. Surely if jewelry were a sin, David would never have made a comparison between wise behavior and something that is sinful.

The prophet Isaiah wrote in Isa 61:10,

“I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.”

Isaiah compares righteousness and salvation to a bride and bridegroom who adorn themselves with jewelry. Would Isaiah compare a sinful activity to the salvation and righteousness of God?

God, through Jeremiah, speaks of jewelry in this way:

“Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? Yet my people have forgotten me days without number.” (Jer 2:32)

God compares forgetting about him to a maid who forgets her jewelry. Again, if jewelry were sinful, God would never have made such a comparison.

In Ezek 16:11-13, God says that he has blessed his children with bracelets, necklaces, earrings, jewels and crowns,

“I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck. And I put a jewel on thy forehead, and earrings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thine head. Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil: and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper into a kingdom.”

God would not offer his children something sinful as a gift or reward.

Some may argue that God once gave and blessed the use of jewelry, but because of the vanity and disobedience of Israel, he no longer does, which is why it is forbidden in the New Testament. The problem with such an assertion is that it is not taught in the scriptures. In fact, the scriptures contradict such an idea. Luke 15:22 says,

“But the father said to his servants, bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand…”

This verse is from the parable of the Prodigal Son, given by Jesus. Surely, Jesus would not have used a sinful practice as part of his parable.

Considering the overwhelming body of evidence that God not only doesn’t condemn the use of jewelry but has actually given it as a gift to his faithful children, it cannot reasonably be stated that jewelry is a sin. In light of this, let's take another look at the verses used to support the belief that the use of jewelry is forbidden:
But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.

Self servicing is a rather complex matter.

The Bible is totally silent about this matter but then I always ask; when you masturbate, what do you think about? This is where the complexity sets in.

I really don’t think a single man or woman wil be thinking about a football game or a tractor when self servicing but probably about someone who he or she is not really married to which makes it lusting which translates to sin..

Married people who self service thinking about their hubby or wives may really be practicing a sinless act but I believe it will be unwholesome to self service thinking about an illicit sexual act.

Nevertheless, this subject remains one with strong debate where some believe that as long as actual sexual intercourse is not involved, it is sinless and harmless but this is my take on the matter.
WRONG OP.... you missed it here!!! Self service is a SIN whether or not you see it that way. There is nothing complex about it.... Masturbation is borne out lustful thought and dirty mind which certifies it as a terrible sin.
You dont use the TEMPLE OF GOD as a place to satisfy sexual orgy! It is even prohibited too even as a Married Couple, why should one involve in such act when he/she has a partner what will you tell your spouse if you got caught in the act It is really silly to think it is sinless to self service. The BIBLE also clearly arn that He the knoeth hat is good and refuse to do it, to Him it is a SIN!

Our problem as christians is that we keep classifying sin.... But am here to tell you that sin is a nature we inherited from Adam, by one man sin entered the world and Jesus christ, our saviour paid for our sins once and for all... What am saying is, you will not make heaven because you are sinless, that's self justification. Even God knows that man cannot be sinless which is why Jesus came, so if you want to please the father or make Heaven, believe in the price Jesus paid... And whosoever beliveth in Him shall be saved and have eternal life, that verse didn't say and whosoever is sinless shall be saved.... Its time to stop seeing sin as an individual thing.

According to all of the above listed,these are teachings that the devil will capitalise on in each individual doing such until the person gets to the gate of destruction
For instance, when you tend to drink that alocohlic drink, the devil tends to use that as means to introduce more to you which in the first place seems normal to you and at the end,you are into drunkness and so on like that...
It is better not to start with those things at all than to give room.and end up in place of destruction....

So i ask; Is it a sin to smoke,to drink alcohol,to wear jewelries? Is it a sin to self service? for ladies to wear trousers? for women to perm their hairs,use hair attachments or draw tattoos?

I will address these one after the other but whatever i will write on,i would like you all to read this passage from the bible.

People are in hell because they could not imagine having to give up alcohol? So they rejected the message and still went to hell for drinking alcohol.

In the end I hope what you're writing here is the truth to yourself and those who end up believing it. It had better not be more heresy from you, a person who wants to add your understanding to the scriptures when it never had your interpretation in the original.

As many as are led by the Spirit,they are the sons of God.
No serious child of God considers porn,smoking,masturbation,polygamy and many, if not all,of the things mentioned by the OP as an issue because even unbelievers know.

This passage clearly states the need for believers to build their standard on the word of GOD which is Christ(John 1 vs 1).

We must be very careful not to be held hostage by enticing words of men that has no foundation from the scriptures. All i wrote are backed by the scriptures and no single one was explained with my philosophy or carnal understanding.

My greatest regret about this thread is that i had wanted to unlearn some of those things i wrote and really take to corrections but i weep inside right now because throughout the length of the pages,i am yet to see just one person who have clearly explained a contrary view from the word of GOD. This goes to show that indeed many believers have no sound mind but GOD has not given us the spirit of timidity but that of a sound mind.

On this note i say thank you all for viewing this thread and i may consider commenting if i see just one person who will really educate us from the scriptures on a contrary view to all i have written.

After reading from page 1 to the last page, I have come to realize that, the devil is really bent on seeing people end up in hell.

To the OP, I must commend you for your write up, but no room for justifying some of those things you wrote.
I will not condemn or judge you, because a Christian is not allowed to judge others, and more importantly, ultimate judge resides with God and Him alone. I have come to realize that, we try to "outsmart" God, by thinking that there are loopholes in the Bible.

To the OP, you keep asking for reference in the Bible concerning masturbation, when you and I know right from the outset that, such word and so many others, are not in the Bible. Does it mean that, the act of masturbation is not a sin? Simply because, it's not in the Bible. What of pedophile, female circumcision etc? Do we justify them, because they are not in the Bible?

Finally, let me make some references in the Bible.
Lev 15:16 and 17, says much about se-men emission, without the man's own doing. If it happens, the man is declared unclean and must wash himself, before he can interact with people and His God. Point to note here is this, this was done unintentionally.
Now, imagine a person doing it intentionally? What do you think the repercussion will be?.
All in all, may God help us all, myself included. And please, no judgemental statement to anyone, if and truly, you believe in God.

Paul reminded Timothy of a time like this,in 2Timothy 3.
He told him of
"lovers of pleasures than lovers of God",
"dispisers of things that are good",

"having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof"
He went on to say the following,
But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived

I have carefully followed this post till this last page for now. I made several observations and learnt many things too. some of the things I observed about the op are:

His basis or background is denominationally influenced. He has NEVER allowed the Holy spirit to talk or direct him.


He has a fixed answer, anyone who does not tell him what he wants to hear irrespective of the Bible passages quoted has not said anything.

His 27 yrs of Christianity to say is questionable in the light of what he has said.

He has no life of his own. the Word of God has not become flesh to him. I saw the efforts made by learned gentlemen here to which he the op thinks he knows them all.


He will never learn.

seeing his level of understanding, people wouldn't mind to bother him with bible passages, he is only here to argue the Bible to his own destruction. I personally have many Bible passages to lay a foundation for the op. if he is interested, let him add me on watsapp tru my public line.

Every Christian must study the word of God so as not to be deceived by this little write up of the op. I was once like him and I have met many Christ embass member like him. we have looked at the bible word to word, but because they have a fixed answer, they only live to their destruction.

op please add me so we can lay a firm foundation and understanding of the Scripture. so many persons here do not have the time and energy to start typing and uploading bible verses to prove you wrong.

so many persons do not know what the law as used in the old testament is. so many persons don't understand the writings of Paul, St peter in the conclusion of his letter stated it that Paul wrote in words that is very hard for people to understand to which they have interpreted to their own destruction.

This passage clearly states the need for believers to build their standard on the word of GOD which is Christ(John 1 vs 1).

We must be very careful not to be held hostage by enticing words of men that has no foundation from the scriptures. All i wrote are backed by the scriptures and no single one was explained with my philosophy or carnal understanding.

My greatest regret about this thread is that i had wanted to unlearn some of those things i wrote and really take to corrections but i weep inside right now because throughout the length of the pages,i am yet to see just one person who have clearly explained a contrary view from the word of GOD. This goes to show that indeed many believers have no sound mind but GOD has not given us the spirit of timidity but that of a sound mind.

Honestly i am so put aback and when i write all these,i was meticulous in backing them up from the scriptures but these people quickly assume im supporting all i wrote from my understanding expecially the act of masturbating.

We must be careful not to equate bad habit with sinsful habits.

We have sinful acts and YEs we also have bad habbits and not all bad habbits are sinful

Betting is a bad habbit yet i dont see where the bible calls it sin. Anything you do that has a potential of becoming addictive should be discouraged.

So when people argue about self servicing lets not mix words,if you see it as a bad habit please stop and if you come to me to ask i will tell you straight up,go marry to avoid it and avoid it if you can because like every other habit if unchecked can be addictive.

Like i am addicted to reading and i can read and read all through without mixing with people..i am also checking my addiction to writing so shall we say i am sinning?HELL NO.
