The religious Affiliation of the general population is public knowledge. Scientists Just don't give a damn about religion. That is why it is difficult to get a reliable statistic about their religious affiliations. This research was carried out for a book based on scientific research. by a professor. in sociology. many things have been assumed by people using a far smaller number.

There are only 8 Ivy league schools in America. If she focused only on Ivy league universities, she would have interviewed 200 scientists from different faculties of science from each university. she even notes there that these are elite universities. This is more than enough. especially since we have seen so many prominent scientist which are Atheists.

It's public knowledge that if you come to Nigeria to conduct the same survey, 99 percent of all scientists will turn out to be theists. but we all know how far their theism has Gotten them.
