Are you not confusing and contradicting yourself already?

Your education operating system is so abacus Upgrade and reset the OS please
You're the confused one though.
No wonder only you could imply that my statement ''of any Nigerian claiming to have been superior to the British is absurd" means we are inferior to the british.
What a dumb head!

No one claims bini are Yoruba though.
What we hate is the claim to have been superior when their idols, words, arts and cultures were all borrowed from the Yorubas. Not to mention their Oba's throne which was preceded by Oramiyan, an Oduduwa's son.
Virtually all of their existence shows one form of Yoruba or the other and these are the people claiming to be superior to us.
A case study is we Nigerians claiming to have been superior to the British when we serve their God, speak their language and incorporate their cultures into ours! Wouldn't that be an absurd claim?

I am not a Benin and I am not a yoruba but I must be honest

Benin had impacts in Yoruba land and ruled the Yoruba land from ore to Lagos ..inshort Lagos wasa camp

Benin brought the kingship to Yoruba land that's why they the Yoruba adopted the obaship..yes

Benin man is the real oduduwa and it's a historical fact
The fake oduduwa was from heaven descending with a calabash and a fowl...i mean it's so stupid to tell these stories that my 8 yr old girl won't believe this

I think Yoruba might have given Benin some small deities..I really need to confirm how true this is but others mentioned are historical FACT .

I think Yoruba should eat the humble pie and accept Benin impact in their lives ..just Luke Ilorin should accept the Fulani impact in their own

Borrowing the word 'omo' isn't the bone of contention here but the origin of the word 'omo'
No one cares if dinosaurs also borrow the word to be part of their language but the origin is what matters. As far as I'm concerned, no tribe uses the word 'Omo' as part of their names the way Yoruba uses theirs.
As a matter of fact, only Yoruba has used the word 'Omo' which dated back as far as millenium years ago. One of my sec. school friend's surname is Omosheibi. Can you imagine someone's great great grandfather to have been bearing the said name? And this is what you bini want to claim?
Try another!
It's very clear you have a very poor knowledge of linguistics and don't know beyond your closet(Yoruba). I'm an Urhobo and 'Omo' is the Urhobo word for child. Claiming we(the Edo-speaking) people borrowed this word among others from yoruba is very shallow. Your argument would have sense if you talked about the possibility of similarity in words being a result of a common ancient language or relations between various ethnic groups. Linguistically, there are some similarities of words used in Igbo and Yoruba languages, so do i now say yorubas borrowed those words from igbos or vice-versa?

Back to the topic. Enough is not been done in preserving these treasures... A miniature city for example should be established to keep the memories if the glorious past ever fresh and also bring home some good money from tourists. Unfortunately, those in govt.(federal and state) do not think of tangible things they can do to better the society.

What's this one saying betwn!
It's widely known Urhobo or whatever the sh!t borrowed many of their language from the Binis. That you got the word 'omo' from the Binis doesn't mean it didn't originate somewhere and I'm simply stating that the word is basically a Yoruba word.

'Borrowed from Binis', hahahaha. It seems u're so obsessed with borrowing but your level of Knowledge is very shallow. You yorubas make too much baseless claims. Yes, Edos and Urhobos/Isokos + western Igbos are historically related but 'Ofua' is the Bini word for child for you info. Do you know that 'Oba' is not the Edo word for King as many of you yorubas erroneously think just as Emir in not the Hausa word for King? Let me stop here, lol.

You worship our idols though. Ogun, Obatala, Okun etc are Yoruba idols.
And don't dare say otherwise because we all know who do have those idol's names as the prefix of their names, e.g, Ogunseyi, Okunla etc.

Listen up child. Obatala is not worshiped by BINI's and the source of Olokun can be traced to Benin same as Ogun. No Benin person bears such names like Ogunseyi and Okunla.

To enlighten your almost blunt brain; There is what is referred to Edo n'kure or Edo's in Akure. These were the soldiers sent to keep the Ondo's and Ekiti's in check incase of failure to remit taxes. Some of them returned to Benin with Yoruba wives and my maternal great grand-mothers happens to be one of these women. Go to Owo,Ondo,Akure and you see traces of Benin in their royal court.

LOL!
Need I remind you that I schooled in uniben for good amount of years to know that the bini word for child is Omo. Even the binis in the house hasn't refuted it or say otherwise.
The word Omo, Oba re basically Yoruba words, only a dumb head would say otherwise.

How can the landlocked bini with no access to the sea has Olokun as their god? Yeye dey smell.
Do you know you've been having a discourse with an Ondo native? LOL at edo's in Akure!
Abeg find something to chew on. Bini that was sent packing in Akure and even had their king killed in the battle is the one forming nonsense!

Bini claiming the word Omo, Oba etc doesn't change s.hit though because even the blind knows they are Yoruba words.
Basically, The whole of Yoruba race which spread across Benin, Togo and even the Brazil use the word 'Omo'.
Only the bini moonlight tales story teller would think the words belong to them.

There is enough scholarly material about Benin history. Most of the people here are not learned and speak from predetermined prejudices.

If history presents what is known from preserved records as opposed to myths of who descended from who, tribal rivalries will be reduced.

Nothing in the piece is controversial at least from a scholarly point of view.
Hello tbaba123. Long time.

My point exactly. The problem is that even the learned, as you describe them, have these "predetermined prejudices ". It may very well take another generation or two to change them. Unfortunately much of the rich history of the many tribes of Nigeria could be lost in that time. Continue to read and study your history. Hopefully there are others, from other tribes, who are doing the same. You, and they, may very well be the keepers of your heritage. Don't allow it to be lost. Nice write up BTW.

The great Benin empire has been reduced to a local government area no thanks to the political miscalculations mostly on the part of Benin people like Mike Enahoro, Tony anenih, aikhomu, igbinedion,Oshiomole all whose Myopic political affiliations has helped to further the decline of this great empire.

To the extent that edo state is not even a viable state any longer, choosing to belong to a worthless and useless political party where never do wells belong.

May God almighty pay back all those who furthered the decline of this great empire.

If I may ask, please what is edo state still doing in APC, what has it benefitted from the party apart from economic decline and mismanagement of the state finances?
