MetroTee, I think it was just a coincidence.
Ela doesnt act that fast and I haven't heard of where it was transmissible but then never say never plus a mother's instinct is hardly ever wrong.
You might want to go to the Dr to have it checked out.
The only treatment I know is herbal. There is this red flower that traditional herbal dealers sell. You can also cut ot fresh from trees, cos it grows around......someone pls help out with the name or picture.
Soak or boil in hot water and baby bathes with the extracts.

I heard tetmosol baby soap does wonders too.

Thank you @zaynie. My MIL mentioned the leaf with red water too, she has tried describing it but I don't seem to know it so she says she'd get the name tomorrow.

Called a doctor and she said same that it may be a coincidence but that it is highly contagious as it is like ringworm. Will try to see the paed in the morning.

Exactly @ mothers instinct. lol. Baby has been restless all day so just putting it all together. My Dh thinks I'm over reacting cry

You have described my symptoms. I have a dust allergy and used to have mild asthma. It runs in my family, so we are all used to it. Anti-bacterial meds won't help. I don't want to mention the meds I take (and yes, there is a children's version of it but I don't want to prescribe without a diagnosis) but speak to your doctor and more importantly, start looking for what is triggering the cough, when does it start. Can you clean the entire house with a damp rag (so the dust doesn't fly around)
Or take baby to somewhere else dust free and see if he gets better. The dust mites, mold, cockroaches and perfumed products (even Raid or those pink mosquito papers) in the air could trigger it.

Kendlez, please start looking for triggers like dust. one of the consultants i asked mentioned she thought it was an allergy. My eyes would water and i'd be unable to breathe and my nose would be burning inside (it would be runny and bring out mucous), so I would start breathing from my mouth (gasping for air). Your babies sound like me. But you need a confirmation from a doctor.

What I'd advise is to make notes of the symptoms and what triggers it, meet up with your doctor and discuss if the baby can be prescribed anti-allergy meds (it is a liquid, sweet actually). You have to sound knowledgable so do your research (Nigerian doctors are used to handle patients who know little about their bodies or medicine so they may want to ignore your suggestions. That's why you have to do your homework). See if you can get a different diagnosis. HTH
this is d 1st time am experiencin this type of cough wt my lo. though he s fine now, ie, breathes normal. But I ll stil look in2 ur suggestions 2 avoid future occurence. thanks n God bless

Hello mummies in the house. I'm new here and just stumbled on this thread a few days ago. Please I have a question. My baby is 9 weeks old and we had visitors yesterday whose 4 month old baby has ela (not sure what it is in English)

My question now is- is ela transmissible? Because suddenly today the side of my baby's hair has fallen off and I feel this is too much of a coincidence. Also, I'd like to attack it head on if that's what it is. What would you advise as best course of treatment?

Thank you!
constant application of shea butter, mk sure its d original.

@metrotee, most times this thing we call nla is fungal and if it's fungal infection then it's transmissible

Thank you @stadora and @soonest. Starting treatment immediately this morning with anti fungal cream and shea butter. I'm just praying catching it in time will get rid of it sooner rather than later

Red acalypha plant. Scientifically proven to help with most fungal infections. If you can buy it and plant outdoors in your house, it's a good plant to grow and use fresh. Or go to those gardeners at the side of the road as ask for cuttings. Carry a small bucket or bowl filled with water with you. As soon as you cut the plant, put it immediately in the bowl of water so it stays freah. Don't let them give you Green Acalypha, it's not as effective.

Thank you so much @onegai esp for the link. Found the leaf here around the house and my mum confirmed its the one. we've started the process now of bathing her with it. My MIL also sent same leaves but with other ones in it too (the whole agbo combo) and they said I should drink so baby can get some while breastfeeding. I'm skeptical cuz I feel it can make her start stooling undecided

@ Ahnie, a Paed once spoke to us at school, she said most times when kids cough, its because sth is irritating the chest/ airways and they need to clear it.
Antihistamines are usually prescribed.
Piriton is an antihistamine, it would make the cough disappear just like that but will offer relief in between episoded.
I also use metholatum to massage both chest and back. The sides and underarms too.
Kisses to lil Miss Zino kiss

Stop wateva syrup you are giving! Your baby is too young for that. Ask the pharmacy for Saline drops; preferably the spray one.

The picture attached is what I used for cattarh/congested nose since my son was an infant till date.

Don't know the price here, bought it wen i travelled.

I don't use Panda, I use tylenol. Vit C is good as well
