Okay, this is a challenge I need a solution to. My parents are saying no money no money when it is obvious that they have. My little brother is home because he has outstanding fees so I was wondering if I should give him my tithe to pay part while I pay the tithe next month when I get my next salary, I don't know what to do.

Mods please move it to fp, I need urgent solution to this.
Just read LUKE 11:39-41. read it from different versions of the bible.

Blue, how far? The whole thing just saddens me. You know, this tithing issue is what brought me to NL over 10 long years ago. Doctrinally the case was clear - no mandatory tithe for Christians.

In Christ Jesus, God blesses you anyway, and will reward you for your good deeds. There is no categorisation of giving, or an attendant "tariff" garnering heavenly blessings. Christian giving is so beautifully simple - Matthew 25 v35 - end, 2 Corinthians 8.

Why rebuild those things Christ died to destroy, why spurn grace for the law, the law you cannot possibly keep, why become slaves of men when Christ has set you free?

I always tried to move the discussion from theology to the practical outworking. All good doctrine will accord with truth, and a clearly understood practical outworking - dem no gree. Round and round we went.

The resistance was so ferocious, it appeared spiritual. Some posters were so prolific, I was sure it was a co-operative using the one moniker? In the end I migrated to the family section - only to find a different set of demons there tongue

TV

Lol, i am good, hope you are too? cheesy

Funny enough, i always wanted to discuss this with you on the boys thread but some how it skips my mind. I don't pay tithes and i talked to my pastor about it. I give to the needy, every month i make sure i give towards an orphanage, someone school fees or hospital bills.

I was born and raised Anglican, my dad and grand-pa are both deacons and they believe differently about tithes. I must say, we Christians sometimes don't understand the bible. It's sad and at the same time frustrating.

Tithes are spent by the pastors. Pastors are said to be sons of God. Your bro too is a son of God abi na devil pikin? Infact, every christian should preach the gospel, in other words, every christian is a pastor. Your brother is then a pastor. PAY YOUR TITHE TO YOUR BROTHER. :-)

Pay your brother's fees. Tithing is not binding on Christians. Under the Mosaic law it served a purpose that is now outdated.

People harp on it because they see it as a gateway to blessings if paid or punishment if missed (yeah most persons are all shades of selfish). People want to buy more money and other blessings with a fraction of their money, as if God is some sort of lottery machine. Many pastors know the truth but they would never tell you.

You are suffering from delusion of grandeur. When you you dont know and you think you know, is the a very big problem!! Who told you paying tithe is dashing a pastor money? Tithe is between the op and God, no third party is included be it father, brother, mother or spoise. Its like giving someone his or her own share of a business deal. Its not in your place to spend ur partners money on his her or her behalf, or tell the person how to spend his share. Not paying tithe is not enriching any pastor if u have understanding is provoking divine bleasings on yourself. When you dont pay tithe,(10% of every increase) you are robbing God.
Now I think u are the one suffering from delusion of grandeur. if u fail to pay your tithe just once doesn't mean u will go to hell? if u like pay ur tithe constantly as long as you live a life that doesn't please God you are going no where.

My brother the facts still remains that tithe is a command and for your good and many especially the Catholics will not advice you to pay your tithe. As for me, even if you must pay his school fees, have it in mind that you are owing your tithe with interest (Leviticus 27:30-31 30 And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD'S: it is holy unto the LORD. 31And if a man will at all redeem ought of his tithes, he shall add thereto the fifth part thereof.).

So i will advice you do the need needful and make sure people do not stop your blessing (Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.) Also, remember this, those will discourage you will refer you to Jesus not asking us to pay tithe but dont forget what He Said in the book of Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.)

Good Luck.

If truly you believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and you read your bible and digest it in the right way then how will you interprete this bible passage:

Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

Do not quote me wrong. The Lord will still bless you but my brother blessing has measures. If you look at the last sentence of the passage it says

“AND POUR YOU OUT BLESSING THAT THERE SHALL NOT BE ROOM ENOUGH TO RECEIVE IT”

So my obedience makes me have more than enough. So whenever i am obeying God through tithing and seed sowing i am certain that the money is leaving my pocket but not leaving my life because its gonna come back to me in large measures.

Please I want to ask. How do you locate the Levites you give your tithes to? Cos I didn't see anywhere in the Bible where the people were told to give their tithes to Pastors. I also want you to cite verses in the New Testament where the apostles were receiving tithes.
I still don't get why we selectively follow some parts of the Old Testament and leave some other parts.

If you are gonna pay ur tithe cos of the blessings you cited and leave a neighbour in need then you are a selfish, self -centred and wicked person. You don't want to help someone cos of the 'windows of heaven' you wanna open for yourself.

Nothing spoil sef. If he doesn't pay his tithe, he won't die. If he believes in tithing, he can pay the school fees now and pay the tithe with interest the next month.

I hope your family's financial situation gets better.

Having said that, check out Paul's writing in First Timothy 5:8
Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Hope this answers your question.

Also, if you truly believe in Yahweh/Jesus, don't you think he would understand and be merciful if you pay your brothers tuition instead?

I'm sorry OP, but you've been brainwashed by Nigerian pastorpreneurs to fork over your money to subsidize their lifestyles.

Best of luck. FYI, I am not religious but I remembered the above verse from when I used to be a super brainwashed theist.

First of all, you have to repent. Believe in God and not your pastor or church, else, your pastor will lead you to hell.

Jesus himself did not approve of tithing. He was against tithes or giving money to anybody in his name.

Jesus said:

Luke 11:42

“But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.”

And Matthew 23:23

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.”

Above are some the bible passages your pastors don't want you to know. Your pastors are working for the Anti-Christ!!.

FIRST TELL US THE VALUE OF SALARY. SECONDLY, TELL US THE VALUE OF YOUR BROTHERS SCHOOL FEES, pls be sincere... Meanwhile, you should not see tithe as a compulsary levy, you should support the gospel cheerfullY with whatEVER you make up your mind to give.

.WHY DONT WE EAT OUR TITHES BEFORE THE LORD as stated in the bible.....
Deut 14:22 Each year, you shall separate the
tithes out of all your crops which spring forth
from the earth.
23 And you shall eat these in the sight of the
Lord your God, in the place which he will choose,
so that his name may be invoked there: the
tenth part of your grain and wine and oil, and the
firstborn from the herds and your sheep. So may
you learn to fear the Lord your God at all

Laws create chaos. Thats not what christ died for. He died to raise us above the laws

Ok since you are such a fan of the Bible, including the Old Testament, how do you interpret this verse?
Deut 25:11-12 "11 If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, 12 you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity."

The Bible is not a reliable book for moral decision-making.

Re: Should I Pay My Tithe Or Pay My Brother's School Fees? by Monday5(m): 5:53pm On May 10, 2016
That not withstanding, WE can draw some inferences from your question. From my own point of view; before asking if you could use your tithe to offset your brother's school fees instead, it means that your tithe could range between 30k and 70k. Average tithe, Tav=(30+70)/2, ==>Tav=50k which is a probable fee for PRIVATE secondary schoolS. Meaning your average salary, Sav=(50k*10)=500k. It means that you have the 450k left to your self. I'M SURE SOMEBODY IS GETTING SOME UNDERSTANDING!
