Was never a great fan of bicycles until i spent a few number of years outside Africa. Anyway... i have great love for bicycles and it makrs commuting a bit easier especially when you have an electronic bike that goes as fast as 45km per hour with assisted riding. I have also seen some that go between 70-100km per hour but they are mostly illegal in most parts of the world and they are individually made by bicycle tuners and enthusiasts who install more powerful motors on their bikes.

Im not sure how popular e bikes are in nigeria but i got to admit these things are really expensive.. they range from (i would be using naira equivalent so we really dont talk about exchange rates) 350,000 to a whooping 5m (tufiakwa God forbid!). I tell you that even the cheap ones dont have much power to ride far. I went to meet a friend yesterday. He has a Stromer ST model which he got last year and he bought it for 2,278,000. I rode it a bit and it was super nice and it just gave me the conviction to say to myself... "okay you are not crazy for doing this and spending such amount of money on yours". His is a 35V 500W powered e bike.

Moving forward, i wanted to get a new bike to start the project with but later changed my mind because i would not be spending alot of money getting a used one then doing all the restoration on it..the main idea for ne was to just convert a normal bike to an e bike, then later it changed to putting it in super good taste with a few other features not found on conventional bikes...something more like a vintage gentleman's kind of bike with a motor assisted system. I used to think normal bicycles were expensive in naija until i saw ordinary bicycles that dont have motor assisted systems going for as high as 800k. Im like jisos...ordinary bicycles. When i was dreaming of owning a bicycle in naija it was always with a budget of 10k naira and if it was too expensive, 20k and that was max!

I would be posting pictures of my progress (except when i am mobile) and the estimated time for this project should be about 3 months considering the estimated time of parts delivery i would need. I guess its safe to leave this thread in car talk as there is no bicycle section or okada section (lol) and its a motorized wheel.. so im safe. If not mods abeg tell me before you comot my first comment o because i no copy and paste am somewhere else.. me i no get power to type all these things again from scratch.

Budget: 350,000
Bicycle price: 14,000.. (giveaway price!)

..first off, im dissembling the whole bike leaving it with just the frame as i plan to change the colour of the whole bike. Most of these screws were really tight especially the ones from the handlebar as ibcould imagine that after many years of use, they have not been unscrewed for once. I also had to flip it over because it was easier to get the job done.... the following went down..

1. Unscrewing of the additional handlebar and brake system..
2. Losening the bicycle chair and main handle bar.
3. Unscrewing the tires.
4..losening the light and mud guard..

Basically at this stage everything in front has been taken off. The reason im doing this is that i plan to change the colour of the bike so i need a naked frame to do so...

I fell in love with bicycle during my service year in the North. It was an everyday thing for me cause I rode it to work instead of my car. It made a lot of sense. It is an extremely common transportation easing equipment in the north, most southwestern guys who saw me thought I was local, well I thought the same when I first arrived there.

Back in lagos, I miss riding bicycle but don't intend to anyway, lagos is rough, and traffic is always high, if you aren't careful, you could end up dead or miamed

Yea i totally agree with you nurey. This is the reason why most folks wont be interested in this thread. Anyway my sister thought i should document this and thats why im putting it up on nl. I thought i need the full concentration for this project but hey, documenting it wont hurt..i used to also think folks who rode bikes were local especially women. I detested seeing them on bike or motor cycles. But i know better now...besides the weather is always too hot in nigeria fr bicycle rides.

Hi folks. I did not update in some days because i was suuper busy and i have not finished dismantling the bike. Although its over 96% percent dismantled. Anyway, i was able to get the right colour i want to spray paint it. Its kinda like a matt brown colour. Im such a fan of brown and i would kill for it no jokes. That being said, this plasti dip spray is very peelable and i have seen it been used on cars too. Its has a guarantee of 5years or more.. i should have been getting a permanent spray is what some folks would tell me but i think this one does the job quite good and right infront of me it has been blasted with a 2000-3000 PSI pressure washer and nohing happened to it...below are some pictures of it in use. And. The first picture is the can itself. I would be updating the thread upon evrry single new part i buy.

Phew. Finally the fork for the bicycle gave me a really tough time unscrewing. I had to oil it. Even at that, the screw was super hard. I was only looking for screw driver that looked more like a T so i could exert some more pressure turning it anti clockwise. In the end i used my sppon which did the job. This took me 2days to think of where to get something to connect to the screw driver to give it that T look as the ones i sawat the "do-it-yourself" stores were just too expensive and there was basically nothing else i needed from there. Did not wnt to waste that money.. so yea the fork is off at the moment.

Got a matt black spray and a spray gun as i would be respraying some black spots and spraying some places black too. The handlebar, carrier at the back and a few other places would be black. As i havent done this before i was hoping to test the matt black spray on the handlebar and it came out pretty okay. Although i made a few mistakes but its fine because the grip and a few other things would cover the little mistakes. I hope not to make these mistakes on the frame because it would look like a poor spray paint job. I was able to discover that spraying should be done about 10-16 inches away so that it has a nice smooth feel rather than have marks of somewhat dripping paint (dont know what the english name is).
