It's not that you were favored, it's that you were able to talk about all of the programs that you applied to and didn't continuously sound like you were speaking off a rehearsed script. I remember this interview because it was my interview.

I would also point out that this is a much abbreviated transcript of what actually occurred...

hello house, good day to you all.

please house can anyone suggest a cheapest flight to take to New Hampshire, connecting flight, bus and route to New Hampshire.

Also anyone going to New Hampshire or staying in New Hampshire should please send a PM to me as I will really appreciate it.

Thanks
Your POE would be JFK, New York. Royal Maroc is the cheapest flight about 200-220k. Chk on travelstart.com.
Use skyscanner.net to book a connecting flight to NH.
BTW, NY is so close to NH so a bus won't be a bad idea.
Kennyrony schools in NH.
Where are you heading?

Me: Good morning
VO: Good morning
VO : Pass me ur documents
Me : (Gave her my passport with I-20 in between)
VO : (looked through my I-20)
ME: (Watching for about a minute or so)
VO: So what's your research topic?
ME: ( I didn't hear what she asked oo) What?
VO: (Asked again)
ME: (Stuttered a bit) I'm just going for a Masters Degree in Mathematics.
VO: Yeah, but you should have a research you'll be working on.
ME: (Wondering...research ke? Na wa ooo) Okay, I'll be working on Development of Mathematical Models that can be used to solve real life problems, ranging from health to production and so on (I didn't plan for that because I don't have a research, but I was very well prepared prayerfully. So I just said what came to my mind sha)
VO: (Nodding and typing very fast, also taking momentary CLOSE look at my I-20) Okay Okay. (Picked the white paper and passed it to me with my I-20, then she said the usual stuff) You'll need this (I-20) at the Port of Entry
ME: (sincerely I thought she wanted to pick a blue paper because she had the highest denial before I got interviewed. Infact, when the CGI told me I will be next to 'patronise' the woman, I just started hoping for the worst, but expecting the best. Just like that? What did I say wrong? Now now? Was she in a hurry? I started wondering why this woman will not allow me prove myself by at least asking more 'usual' questions. On seeing the white paper, mehhn, I just grabbed it with my I-20 and rushed out before she'll change her mind, because I was asked just a question, which was about research. Omo na case of answer one question, get one free visa oo. All thanks to God. After I initially got a TB, God vindicated me. FAITHFUL GOD.

Congrats ....am going for ms mathematics too, I pray I be favoured too.

Dear Nairalanders, I need your help. My visa application was denied today, below is my transcript.
VO: Which schools did you applied to?
Me: GSU, ETSU and MTU.
VO: Tell me about the research ongoing at GSU?
Me:Smart grid network analysis using algorithm developed by GRID LAB D in enforcing QoS on electricity grid. Those where the two questions I was asked.
I want to know what could have caused the denial so I can use it to improve on my application.
This interview pattern is so different.
I think you should be able to convince the VO why you applied to GSU.
The key is doing your home work well.
Go and refire.
Read previous transcripts, read about those schools you applied to, check the faculty and their research interests, look for those that aligns with yours.
Develop something out of it.
you would be fine

If you have to spend an extended amount of time with a person because you think they might actually be a qualified student but they keep giving you answers that don't quite make sense for whatever reason...

This is actually favoured or unmerited favour as we Naija say it. Some other interviewer or VO will not be patient with you and just deny that this : one is not making sense.....but in this case taking the time to give the person a chance because you spot "qualified " qualities

Favoured all the way ..... I pray the rest of my nairaland people be given the opportunity to express themselves or be favoured even if they go off point briefly ..

It could be your village people at work.

Okay, on a more serious note, are you sure you don't know the reason you could have been denied? I believe often times when people are denied, they can tell where they must have fallen short if they search within & remain true to themselves.

Have you experienced any denial prior to this? The research you claim is being conducted currently at GSU, hope you didn't make it up? Did you at any point use a fake document—perhaps SOA for I-20 issuance? Hope you weren't doing shaky shaky daddy like I used to during interviews?

There's more to this, I think. Post your full story here, and I'm confident you'll get help. Sorry for your denial & all the best in your future application(s).

You make me laugh like chao kan.... Hahahaha gringringrin

Thanks bro, the only thought that came to my mind was that the i-20 I provided was for ETSU though GSU gave me admission also. Thought I should have told him my i-20 was for ETSU, I was calm. I just can't fathom what went wrong.

See how little mistakes cost you.. Why providing info and the i20 of the school you didn't fill in your ds160 to the VO

I hope those people from your villa no be the one way cause am Abeg no take am serious am just joking ooo gringringrin

Hello everyone, I am really lucky to have encountered a platform like Nairaland. I have learnt alot here as regards to US Visa Interview questions. Also, needful to say, the sense of humor of the house is really amazing...I always get cracked up reading through threads.Kudos!

Meanwhile, I got an admission offer for fall 2016 from the University of South Florida for a Masters in Public health. Currently filling My DS-160 form and really do not know what to fill as a Primary Occupation. I graduated 2013, and finished Nysc in july 2015 and i'm currently unemployed till date.

Please help!

Thanks.

Since 2007 I have been chopping ban on nairaland like!!!!!!... But these bans shaped nairaland.... Many things have reduced...

But sometimes it doesn't always make sense.... Some people are on a high horse... If there is anything worth posting create a new user, it's not really a smart site... You can use a spam email... I have so many accounts....

I think he needs to clarify what happened here. ....i didnt read it as a mistake more of he had d right school on ds160 and right i20 but they just asked him not about that school he picked but one of d schools he mentioned he applied to .

Gurus in the house, is it possible to provide I-20 of a school and claim you'll be headed for a different school during visa interview? This right here, I think, is what went wrong. Refire and use GSU's I-20 this time. But during your next interview, explain the mistake you made & how you've learnt your lesson.

Is like them unseen forces catch am for him to have done that if it's true oo
