Those 'thousands of Zimbabweans' are the western-backed urban elite minority, who suffered the sanctions and could no longer afford their imported cornflakes, Italian shoes, and foreign vacations. It was THEIR economy that was ''ruined'' by the sanctions. They blame Mugabe for it. The rural majority LOVE Mugabe because his policies have transformed their lives, and they can now pass on their lands to their heirs, as opposed to being slaves on their land and paying rent to whitey. The reason Mugabe ALWAYS wins elections in Zimbabwe is because the rural MAJORITY who benefited from the land redistribution programme, always vote him in. Those are the real Zimbabweans, not the Harare elite who missed their cornflakes, and who don't care how the rural majority fare, slaves or otherwise to whites, so long as they get their city cornflakes.
