In your previous post, you said M.Sc and not PhD. I was kinda worried that someone would spend 8 years on an M.Sc program like you claimed.

it happens at MSc and PhD levels in some institutions. Go find out or chook head inside

I just needed an additional academic qualification. I am a Chartered Accountant. MSc would have required i run full programme. I was a banker then so it could not have been possible. Tnx tho.

MBA is not an academic master's degree but professional. If you are posted to Lagos in future, you can put in for the part-time M.Sc (Finance) programme done by UNILAG.

Postgraduate studies at ABU isn't any much different from other universities in Nigeria i.e. the fees are high (80-120k per session), the lecturers are god-like, poor or unavailability of research facilities, delays in completion of study, some department barely have classes for PG students and PG School rules are non-binding on the lecturers, they don't give a care of what the rule says.

But there are a few thing I do appreciate about the university as well ; unlike complaints from other universities, ABU has an expansive accommodation for her PG students, it has a reliable WiFi for all its students (UG/PG), general security is good and the campus is always neat and condusive, and electricity and water supply is near constant. And I've not heard of cases of lecturers asking for sex of money, maybe it does happen but definitely rare !
The ABU where I'm currently doing my MSc collected 141,900 from me last year, and I'm planning to pay #110,000 this January for my second session.
The issue of accommodation isn't true o. The accommodation for PG students is limited just like any other school
The issue of lecturers demanding for sex and money from students is truely rare
But the lecturers are just like those in the west and east, they delay students. No student has graduated from my department since the program started 4 years ago
So, no much difference

ABU just finished admission. No form in January
If your job is flexible, you should be able to cope (depending on your dept), because in my dept, we do 99% of the work ourselves. Our lecturers don't teach or lecture at allllll. They only come to the class in the beginning of the semester, give out course contents and ask us to distribute among ourselves for presentation, so we did everything ourselves. I mean everything in the course content o. After presentation, they make so many corrections that we always have to do the presentations over and over.

I am not à sir. you are most probably older than me.

I am not an Erasmus Mundus scholar because I never applied for neither did I get the scholarship.
From what I see QEM is a good choice but your transcript will tell if it's the right choice or not

My course, though an Erasmus Mundus program is not covered by the scholarship (I would have suggested it to you since you're looking for Agric Econs related courses). We only get a monthly grant of about €150 for the first year. And that is after you have paid the tuition fees. But I did get about a 80% tuition fee reduction scholarship from an external body in France.

Not all Erasmus Mundus Masters program are covered by the scholarship. Here is a list of those covered by the scholarship. Masters and PhD

You select a program and follow the given link. It will give you all the information you need. Be sure to put your CV in Europass format ( http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/documents/curriculum-vitae/templates-instructions )
and source information on how the scholars are selected so you know how to package your application.

You can send me a pm if you want further information.

Nice one but point of correction, u r mistaking PGD for PG. PGD( POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA) is a year postgraduate(PG) program usually meant for HND holders, in some cases Bsc holders who want to change discipline and third class grade who want to further their academic pursuit. Hence PGD can never mean Masters and all other PG programs. Thanks

You're right, accommodation for the female isn't much impressive. Though LIMITED, Akenzua Hall aside other mini halls for male is quite expansive as I've stated. I've also highlight the same problems in my earlier post as the ones you stated, i.e. not much difference from other universities.

A.B.U Zaria is OK. it depends on how serious and who your supervisor is. I started my MSc in 2012 and completed it in 2014. I started my PhD in 2015 but I haven't done anything much. During my first the chairman of my supervisory committee (3 members ) was on sabbatical I couldn't do much. In my second year they were calling me but I went to make money. The school fees is about 140K per session. I was thinking if abandoning the programme but I have wasted time and money already. And trying to please 3 different people on a research is difficult.
I was in south Africa to present a paper in a conference at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University at port Elizabeth in Nov-Dec last year. I was impressed with their facilities and academic staff. You have only one supervisor and access to him always. You can complete your PhD in 2 to 3 years. The only problem is the fund. I don't have money for the cost of living and accommodation.
SA it's cheaper than Europe and UK and even better than some schools there. I will advise anyone who want to do his PhD to travel out.
Most post graduate candidates after completing their course work just leave and don't come back or come to see supervisors once in a while.
In A.B.U student in different department have different experience. But if you are serious you will graduate in good time.

How much for tuition at the SA university?

Yes, the internet is really a global village and of course the nigeria factor is nothing to write home about.

But believe me you no matter how they might want to frustrate the op, I believe the damage has been done which has tilted the college image. Which to me is actually a good thing; it would at least let the school authority know how the students really feel. The op just start a revolution lol.

Anybody that passed through Economics and Statistics department, university of Benin would know the lecturers the op talked about. he went too raw I guess and some of these lecturers use African magic thus the reason they are not scared of even the deadliest cultist. some of them ofcourse are members.

And you know, due to high level of personal transactions in this forum, many people drop their contacts in one thread or another that sometimes they might forget that it is there.

the poster would have used a brand new moniker

I just concluded my undergraduate studies and I am not hoping to go into any post graduate studies. at least not for now until I buy my first car, build my house and marry. if balance remain, I may then consider furthering.

I hope the op is not victimise though, and as regards postgraduate studies I believe that your blueprint is the best time to run the program.

But you know a good percentage of nigerians go for PG studies due to lack of employment, just to increase their hope of getting a job.

Dear fellow and prospective pg students, I am presently an M.Sc Students at UNILAG. My experienced till date in UNILAG is disheartning and discouraging. In UNILAG, like the Initiator of this topic said, u are taught those topic that u had been taught in ur undergraduate days, which understandably is because of those students that r from other fields but crossed over to ur field but notwithstanding, u r only taught 20% of what u need to know as a pg student. That aside, at UNILAG, therefore is this endemic disease of favouritism among virtually most of their lecturers. U can imagine, during My 1st semester there, a lecturer came a round to introduced their best graduated student during a particular year who the school authority has inadvertly retained based on their doctrine, who we r both undergoing d same pg programme, and d lecturer said that d guy is indomitable and non of us can surpass him based on academic performance. To My chagrin, this guy had A's in all the courses except two lecturer who face him B's. This is d guy that didn't start d programme early with us. This is d guy that didn't partake in someone assignments because of this lateness. And more worrisome, this guy had highest in most CA's and exams. No test to measure our CA performances but only assignments. This same event has been persisting in d 2nd semester. This lecturers only give good marks to there students(Akokites) and cronies and those of us from other institutions, r left with nothing to write HOME about. Our faith to secure the minimum academic grade to be qualified for PHD has been dashed and unrealisable. As a result of this, I asked a friend of mine in the same institution and someone other people and they said is nothing new to them. That is a Customer and tradition thing at UNILAG. I am now sailing in a regretable boat that had I seeked people's advice before obtaining d from, I wouldn't have fallen a victim. On this note, My advice for prospective pg students is for them to go to their root I.e. the school they did their undergraduate programmes for their pg programmes because most Universities in Nigeria r not immuned from diseases of favouritism, stereotyping, factionalism and man-know-man. It's a common saying that d devil u know for a time immemorial is letter than d Angel u just know today.
My submission. Thank u.
with ur experience which sch in lag 'd u advice one to do msc
