Wow congrats daddy! Thanks for this detailed info. Please my question is on account opening at Bank of America..what documents were requested for the account opening? Is there a minimum deposit? I will also check their website for the info. Thank you!

Documents required
1. Two form of Identification ( Passport and Drivers licence)
2. Proof of residence in the state like bills with your name on it (Easy way out- get a US number and get the printout of your payment with your accomodation address or go to the bank with your host) I went to the bank with my host
3. Minimum balance for checking account is 1500 at every point in time but if you go below 1500 you pay 12$ fee. This is not necessarily the opening balance. (check www.bankofamerica.com)

Hello mamas,

Please I need your advice, I will need to take a local flight at 32 weeks to a city before boarding my international flight.

Any idea of local flights that can take a preggy at 32 weeks? Only one flight seem to take preggies to max of 30 weeks .

First and foremost, I congratulate you and Thank God for the safe delivery of your baby boy.

When a baby goes to NICU, the bill is separate from the mothers package (Its totally a different package from your planned package)

Did you stay in the hospital till your baby was discharged? If yes, the reason for the bill. cos you've overstayed.

My advice is that you make payment plan that is convenient and acceptable and move on.

God will replenish you in ways you don't expect.

Best regards.

My fear here is that they said if she doesn't pay the discounted bill now it will be $18k so if she wants to do payment plan it will be on the $18k. This is real gobe!

Me thinks if she can rally round and get the money to just pay it off before leaving, make she know say Na individuals she de owe and not the institution..

Hi!! Is there any mum who previously had a baby in the U.S and has travelled recently for 2nd missionary journey? Can you kindly share questions asked at POE?

Yes I arrived the US last week through Atlanta POE and I have shared my experience on this forum. I can't remember the page.
I travelled with my son and it was smooth.

My last post was deleted and I'm curious why.

I asked congratulated @Fadeo on the birth of his LO and asked if the baby was kept in the room with madam or if the LO was in the nursery and brought to madam for feeding/bonding.

The aim of my question was regarding the NICS bill i.e. Assuming the baby is healthy -Does the location of the baby during the mothers 2 day hospital stay affect the bill?

Hi Family,

Please I have a serious issue and need all possible advise i can get regarding how to go about this situation.

I travelled to America via Houston to have my baby on the 25th Feb. My Edd was suppose to be 29th March. My water broke on the emirates flight 10hrs to arrival enroute Houston to Dubai.

Congratulations on the birth of your baby. Whao! you get heart o,you mean your water broke on air 10hrs to Houston and you and cousin were still able to insist to be moved from Memorial Herman to Oakbend, thank God for safe delivery.
I think you guys should still appeal if the discounted $2,800 can be structured into a payment plan and if not, just look for a means to settle it.

My LO was healthy and he was with the mother throughout. If your baby is healthy he will not be taken out of your sight. A security device will be place on his belly button cord that will give an audible alarm if he is taken out of the room where you are.

So missionary Journey completed. Returned to Naija on saturday 25th, march 2017. So here is the breakdown of experience and expenses....

Got to US through Houston POE on the 19th of January with DW and my Daughter.( I shared the POE experience previously)

On the 20th of January, went into Bank of America, Open a Joint account with DW and we were given temporary ATM card immediately while we deposited all the cash with us into the account. (This decision was on of the best decisions we made in the early part of our entry). I also applied for a credit card 2 weeks later as i realised that I cant rent a car unless i have a credit card.

On Medical,
LO arrives at Oakbend Medical center, Fortbend county on the 3rd of March, (2 days after due date) in the hands of Dr E, and while I was aked to Cut the umbilical cord, Nice experience. ( i also shared this earlier and I also commend all women, Una dey try abeg!!!)

Oakbend baby registry applied for a Birth certificate and SSN. While i booked appointement for Passport on the 14th of March as that was the earliest day. ( although i made delay of booking after DW was discharged, you may need to book appointment immediately the LO arrives)

DR E - 1900, Lab- 205 ( Dr E required a Lab test but we paid her)
Oakbend- 2500 (discharged after 2 days)
NICS(pead)- 335 (after 20% Discount)
Pead Visit - 100 ($50 per visit, had two visits)
Lab 49
Birth Cert 46 (for 2 copied, was read after 3 business days)
SSN free (Got it my mail on the 14th-5 business days from birth)
Passport 165 (expedited- visited the downtown office on tuesday and was asked to pick it up on friday)
VOA 180 (applied for visa on arrival on monday 20th and was ready on tuesday 21st, Thanks to Desoul...) Payment for the Visa done at the Nigerian Airport in Lagos, If you dont have a dollar card, you will pay $200 cash but if you have a dollar card you will pay $180

Infant ticket was war with Air France/KLM... I had a quote for $469.... I called over 13 times requesting to book a return ticket for the infant which could have dropped it to about 105$ but Airfrance/KLM no agree. It was annoying at a point cos the supervisor insistent that he has been working for 9 year with the company and it has never been done.... So on the last call, i gave up and put my mind to paying the 469$, which was paid at the airport.
Checked in 12 items (8 bags and 4 baby accessories). Flight was smooth, layover in Amsterdam was 5 hours and was not boring as we made use of the lounge. Touch down lagos saturday 25th, 2017 at 8:28pm.

Immigration was flawless and LO was stamped in for One month with VOA.

ALL ZERO BALANCE GOTTEN for all MEDICAL RELATED EXPENSES.

I hope I covered all areas in detail. Opened to any question. you can private chat me for more detail. Available 24/7 for any related question for anyone in this forum. This forum is a DIY forum, If you can read from part 1 and ask questions for clarity. From Visa application to doctors correspondence to Visa Interview to flight booking to food stuffs question to POE experience To Delivery and Documentation to Returning home and luggage management to avoid paying for extra luggages were all piece of cake due to the level of handful information from this forum.

I pray that God will continue to replenish all pocket of parent that are taking this step for their kids.

God Bless you all

Thank God the whole process went smoothly. Please, i'm interested in the luggage management aspect, I might be having some extra and i'm trying to avoid paying. How can I go about it?

Hi dear,

Before loads of people see your questions...let me quickly advise you in the nicest possible way. This thread has Part 1-5. You do not even need to go back to 1. You can just start from Part 4 and all your questions will be answered adequately.

First and foremost though, you need to conclude on a budget and a state you would like to be (maybe somewhere you have family or friends to ease your accommodation bills), then you can streamline your search to those states. Page 0 of this thread has some vital info that can help you kick-start your search.

All the best!

that's because he / she can sense your desperation, is probably an agent and not a good Samaritan

Jokes apart though, you have to read through. No one is going to give you a step by step guide.

At least, start from Chapter 5. Or pick particular people's posts and read through their experiences.

Use the search button at the top for specific search terms like "houston", "point of entry", "airline" and narrow down your search.

My thoughts too. There is no free lunch anywhere; not even in Freetown.

Tashastpatrik, Power happens to be one of my best series and i am really tempted to help you cos of that Username, but i want you to put in the work yourself. If this trip is really important to you, reading through this thread is the least you could do. Trust me, you'd be glad you did. Even you go become certified agent.
