The history of this people has been lost, hitherto, in the haze of time and certain events.

It is obvious that Urhobo – like most other aboriginal ethnic groups in Nigeria - was not created or born in Nigeria.

Ask many Urhobo sons and daughters today where they (Urhobo people) came from, their answer is: .Alka’ (‘Aka’). In a sense, they are right. But they do not know of Alka (Aka), their fore-father, who lived in Egypt, who was father to Urhobo, Benin, Igbo, Ika, Hausa, Yoruba, Izon and several others who now live in Nigeria.

The purpose of this post is to restore the - memory-cum-records – missing link in the history of the origin of Urhobo people and how and when they got to their present place in the area that is today called Nigeria.

Introduction


The Urhobo people like all his other brethren ethnic groups that make up the territory called Nigeria, had fled from Sudan, and like the other groups appeared to have conspired to keep their whereabouts a secret from their strong foes. It had to be a secret flight – ‘a disappearing act’ – from North Africa through the Trans-Saharan Trade Route to West Africa and Nigeria, so that they would not be tracked and hunted down by their determined, ferocious foes, especially their kin, king Ayerada (of Isoko lineage) who was bent on converting the whole of Ethiopia (and Nubia) to Christianity either by the Holy Bible or by the sword. Urhobo and the others were well-motivated to abandon Nubia for the following reasons:

1. They were not willing to abandon their ancient gods.

2. They were no match for the military prowess of King Ayerada.

3. Their hitherto thriving economy had failed, as the land was no more yielding oro (gold) and other minerals;

4. Their failing agriculture.

To further cover their tracks and make their ‘vanishing act’ a success, the Fei-roh (Pharaoh, king) and Oloris (leaders/priests) had agreed to prohibit amongst the people the following activities, as well as prohibit speaking or making reference to the topics and subjects listed below, amongst their offspring and on-coming generations:

1. Origin and history of the peoples;

2. Accounts of their migration to their present location;

3. The art of writing (in hieroglyphic) formerly, by the priests;

4. The exposing art and highly revealing technology of pyramid, sphinx and obelisk buildings, and tombs technology;

5. The art and science of mummification; amongst others.

These things were, hitherto, integral aspects of their lives and culture in Sudan, Egypt and even beyond, now stopped.
The people were making a clean break from their past at that point where Ayerada stepped in; for the purpose of ethnic preservation, and for the purpose of preventing the subjugation of their multitude of idols and gods, especially the sun god, Hay-ya-ra, formerly called Re (Hor-re), the moon goddess, Amun (Amoon or Ama-Ra (little Ra) and the sea goddess, Isi.

Therefore, as they crossed the Trans-Saharan Trade Route into Chad, they veered off into the virgin Savannah, moving further down mid-west-ward, through virgin lands until they were swallowed up by the inviting, protective, thick, virgin forests.

Consequently, with no oral or written records of their origin or migrations, Urhobo people forgot their history until now.

The evidences that put the records straight are the account in the book, Urhobo roots and the gods’ fabric, and certain words still used by the Urhobo people and some Nigeria ethnic groups today, which words originate only from Nubia, Egypt, and Babylon. And, of course, the still standing pyramid in Egypt of the Urhobo (Black) Feiroh, Pharaoh Shabaka (Sha-obaka).

Some of these evidence words and items are:

Eki (Enki): The Urhobo king of Babel, in Babylon Eki meant ‘gathering or assembly of people’. Today, it means, ‘market’ and ‘crowd’.

Yesi (Yensi): This was the royal title of Eki. Yesi (Yensi) means, ‘horse’ and symbolizes power and strength. Eki was hailed, ‘Ka-gi-Yesi!’.

Asun: The word means, ‘night’.

Ora-ko: The word means, ‘oracle’, ‘divination by viewing the teeth of a dead animal’, and ‘consulting Ra by the teeth (ako(h) of an animal’.

Feiroh (Pharaoh): This word and king’s title means, ‘Beautiful to behold’ in Urhobo.

Oro: This word means, ‘gold’. From it other words/persons’ names were formed, such as ‘Mukoro/Umukoro’, which means, ‘mound/pillar of gold’.

Aziza (Cizzar): This is the name of a more recent Egyptian/Nubian sky/air deity. This deity/idol is one-legged and is referred to by others as ‘Zeus’.

Edjoor (Edjor, Ejor): This Urhobo word means, ‘idol’ and ‘image’. The word originated in Egypt with the same meanings.

Hor-Re: This means ‘Sun god’ and ‘sun’. ‘Hor-re’ is the modern pronunciation of ‘Re’ by today’s Urhobos; although the word stands for other items like ‘arrive’ and ‘come’, today.

Horus-o (Horso): This is the name of one of their then deities in Egypt and Nubia. This deity’s totem was the hawk/falcon. It was symbolized as ruling from the sky. Presently, the word, ‘Horso/Horus-o means, ‘hawk/falcon’ amongst the Urhobos. From here evolved the English word, ‘Horoscope, broken down as, ‘Horus-scope’’.

So (Suo): This word derived from the word, ‘Horus-o’ and ‘Horso’ means, ‘rule’ or ‘rulership’.

Hykisuo: This was the royal title of Urhobo and other Nubian kings that ruled Egypt, which English language calls, ‘Hyksos’.

Oyibo (Oyinbo): This word means, ‘Those yonder ones’, ‘Those yonder people’, and today, it means, ‘White man.

Ta: This word means, ‘talk’, ‘word’ or ‘speech’.

Oma (Omar): This word means ‘body’ and ‘image’..

Cor-Onah (Connah): This word meaning Onah’s (Noah’s) ark is a word that is pronounced, ‘Okor–Onah’ (‘Okunah’) by present day Urhobo people. It means ‘canoe’, ‘boat’ or ‘ship’

(H)esa: This word means ‘Hexa-‘ and Six’ (“6”)

Irri-ri (Irri-ly, Ri-ly-ri-ly): This word means, the number, ‘9’. Literally, it is, ‘Look, endlessness/continually’.

(H)esago(r) (H)esa-ago(r): This word means, ‘Hexagon’, ‘Pyramid’, ‘Sphinx’ and six-sided objects that were used for worship. The word literally is, ‘’The number six (6) is worshiped/served’.

Ama-Ra (Amara): This word means, ‘little/lesser sun’, that is, the moon.

Ra was another Urhobo word for ‘sun god’, Its other meanings are, ‘fly’, ‘flight’, and, ‘go/attend’,/proceed.

Ton (O-ton): This word means ‘earth’ and ‘land’

Otu: This word means ‘a group of persons or people’.

Ru (Uru): These words mean ‘place’, ‘area’ and ‘street; amongst others.

Thereafter, with the passage of time, when the descendants of Urhobo enquired from their parents about the origin or history of Urhobo people, what they got as answers was ominous silence.

But op, how does this origin story make sense to you?

The methodology:

The process by which the ancestors’ ages were derived has been explained in the book, Urhobo roots and the Gods’ Fabric, written by this author. The difference between Urhobo and the English calendar is 5.25 days, Urhobo year being Noahic (consisting of 360 days). See the book for further clarification. The dates in this book were, thus, arrived at by simply converting the ages to years, ancestor’s birth to ancestor’s birth.

Urhobo Origin Account and Datelines

The account:

This is the account (presented further below in datelines) of the origin of Urhobo: his ancestors and his descendants, and the lands that they dwelt in; and the years of their births and migrations.

Urhobo descended from Akadianose(h) (pronounced, Akadiano-osseh), also called Accad) the son of the short-lived priest-king of Babel, Eki (Enki) (also known as Enkiroh or Nimrod).

Urhobo’s father was Alka who was born in (U year) BC 2003. He was the son of Isi-oboh.

Isi-oboh was born in BC 2093. His father was Va-edo(h), also called Waedo(h).

Va-edo(h) was born in BC2152 by Akadianose(h).

From Akadianose(h) to Urhobo was five generations. (Akadianose(h) although a Black had his origin from Oyibo, the White race. His own ancestry/genealogy and dates will be considered at the end of the account herein given of Urhobo genealogy, descendants, migrations and dates.)

Urhobo’s siblings were Kai-neh (otherwise called Aka), Isi-yan (otherwise known as Isan or Ishan); Isi-oko (Isoko), a female. They were of one mother. He had other half–sisters: Uku-ani (Kwale) and Ika-ra-derra (Ika) who were sisters, born of the same mother, and Kairoh and Ay-ga-ra (Igarra) whose mothers were different; and half-brothers of whom had different mothers: Isi-yon (Izon), Horre-igbo (Igbo), Ava-sa (Hausa) and Oyoro-oba (Yoruba). Kai-neh’s son was Ubini (Bini, Benin); Ubini was the father of Hyksos Kiyan (Kaiyan) who also ruled Egypt before Hyksos Nefer-edoh (born in BC 1797) of Urhobo lineage overthrew him.

Nonsense.

Many Nigerian tribes are as old as Egypt or even older.

All these nonsense history.

Dateline: BC2243 - BC2222: Ton Esheh-ena (Land of Sumer/Shinar), Ancient Iraq

The origin of the Urhobo people began with their Black ancestor, Enki, who was also known as Eki and Enki-roh. He is also called Nimrod. Eki was the great-grandson of Owena (Nah, or Onah for short. His name, Owena or Onah meant, ‘The skilful one’ in Urhobo; whom is also called Noah). Enki’s father was Quoshay (meaning, ‘Poured down’ in Urhobo), whom is also called Cush. Quoshay was the son of Ameh, also called Ohmi and Omiri (his name meant, ‘Sprinkling’, from which it derived the meaning, ‘Water’), whom is also called Ham.
Quoshay or Cush was the originator of the Black race, whose colour gene affected during the fatal solar/sun-fire radiation incidence that ushered in the Global Flood, mutated black-wards, fully visibly manifested in Enki (Eki).

Eki was the father of Eraka (or Eralkai), who was also known as Erech (E-rek). The names had one meaning: ‘The One given or offered to them (the gods)’, so-named because his birth replaced the late Eki, his brother and father, who was murdered by a mob in Babel for committing incest. Eralkai was more popularly known as Akadianose(h) or Ac-cad whose name meant, ‘Wherever Eralkai (or Aka, for short) resides will be well’. He was sometimes called Asamun, also.

Akadianose(h) (Eralka) was the father of Wa-edo(h) (also called, Wa-evoh or Va-evoh) who was the father of Isi-oboh (known also as Assa-bah) who was the father of Alka who was the father of Uru-oboh (Urhobo) and Aka-eneh (Aka-eneh was also called Alkai or Aka, for short; Aka-eneh was the father of Bini, the ancestor of the Benin people).

Eralka was also the father of Isi-yan (Ishan), Ika-ra-derha (Ika), Isi-yon (Izon), Isi-oko (Isoko), Ayga-ra (Igarra), Avasa (Hausa), Hor-re-Igbo (Igbo) and Oyoro-oba (Yoruba). These were how these nations were called in ancient times.
Akadianose(h)’s (Eralka’s) children were born by several wives.

The name, Enki or Eki, meant ‘A large gathering or assembly’. He is significant in that apart from being the ancestor of the Urhobos and the Black race, he was also the first priest-king of the emerging nations of the post-Global Flood era. He was also the youngest king, for he began to reign at the age of sixteen in Ton Esheh-ena, ‘the land or earth of altars’, also called Shinar, or Sumer. This was in the plains of ancient Iraq, in the Middle East.

Eki was a fair-skinned, handsome and intelligent young Black man. He had lost his father, Quoshay (Cush), shortly after his birth. His grandfather, Ameh (Ham) took him and his mother, Isi (pronounced, ‘Is-sea’), in. Ameh was a disciple of the metaphysical science which he had learnt from the generation of the flood-submerged world. The young and inquisitive Enki and his mother, Isi, became his devotees, learning the art of divination and the ancient gods - the sky deity, Ay, and the sky’s hawk-sun god, Horus-o (Horus, also called, Hors-o), and the sun god’s wife, the moon goddess, Ammoo or Amun, and the powers of planetary bodies, that is, Horus-scope (today called, horoscope); and the ability to manipulate the cosmic powers, amongst other things.

Oh dear dear dear....


57 years after independence and we are still prisoners of the racist Hamitic hypothesis.

The young Eki was soon to excel and surpass Ameh in esoteric knowledge and practice.

However, Eki often ran to his great-grandfather, Owena (Noah), from whom he learnt the way of Ghayne (Oghene), ‘The view that is mesmerizing’, the God who made the heavens and the earth. Onah (Owena) would tell him stories of events that preceded the great flood and how God asked him to build a giant cor-onah, conna or canoe which preserved him and the seven members of his family as well as all the animals that walked upon the earth when the deluge came. He would often take him outside and point at the far north-eastern direction saying, ‘Enki, upon yonder kpay-noo (mountain) rests the cor-nah’, by this he meant Mount Ararat in present-day Turkey wherein rested his ark. He had explained to Eki that they had gradually journeyed from the plains of Kpay-noo (Turkey), one hundred and one years prior to his (Enki’s) birth, in search of better arable lands.

Eki was born in the plains of Sumer in BC 2243.

With Eki’s growing knowledge of the mystical powers of the heavenly bodies, and his ability to manipulate or access them, as well as his demonstration of other arcane prowess, the mesmerized people of Ton Eshena (Sumer, also called Shinar) did not waste much time in enrobing and enthroning the child-prodigy of sixteen, Eki;

They installed him as their chief priest and king. Eki was then given the royal title of Yensi (or Yesi), ‘The Horse’, symbolizing the carrier of the people, and strength. Eventually, he was worshiped as god-man and hailed on his throne or when he kpa-da (that is, went out) as, ‘Ka-gi-Yesi’ or ‘Ka-bi-Yesi’ meaning, ‘Served/Worshiped is Yesi’. It became his worship title.

Dateline: BC 2222-BC 2152: Ton Edjor Pitah (Land of Egypt)

Akadianose(h) was born in BC2222 while his mother, Isi, and Sheba were en route Egypt. He grew up under the guardianship of his great uncle in Egypt. His uncle, Sheba, had brought the deity, edjor Pitah to the land; while Isi had introduced him (Akadianose) to Ay, the god of the sky, and Horus (Horso), the hawk-sun god. She equally acquainted him with the legend of Ka-gi-Yensi/Yesi (which is also Ka-bi-Yensi/Yesi). She instructed him on the principles of the flight prowess of Ay, called ‘Ra’ (o-Ra) and about Ay’s wife, Ammun the moon goddess.

Akadianose introduced the worship of his mother, Isi, to his descendants through the water cult of Olokun (‘Shining/Glimmering poured’ or ‘Shining upon’) of the River Nile, also referred to as the Igbe cult or religion that he introduced to immortalize her after her death. He equally introduced Piye (later pronounced, ‘Iye’) after his mother’s death, dedicated to her, as the altar of domestic appeasements for the clan. Iye, thus became a mother symbol for the clan, and the name was sometimes used to mean ‘mother’.

In BC 2152, in Egypt, Akadianose had his first son, Waevoh.

Dateline: BC 2152- BC 1669: Egypt-Nubia births

BC 2152: Waevoh (also, Vaevoh) (whose name meant, ‘You are one’) was born. Several years later, the family had moved to Nubia. But Vaevoh had returned to his father’s place in Egypt where he had a son born to him, called, Isi-oboh (also Isiboh).

BC 2093: Isi-oboh was born. He fathered Alka(Aka.)

BC 2003: Alka(Aka) was born. He migrated to Seba (Sheba), where he had several children including Urhobo, Alka-eneh (short form Alka(Aka), Isi-yon (Izon), Ava-sa (Hausa), Isi-yan (Ishan), (O)Yoro-oba (Yoruba), Horre-igbo (shortened as Igbo), Ika-ra-dhera (shortened form Ika), Uku-ani (Kwale), amongst others.

BC 1967: Urhobo was born in Seba. He was a great warrior whose title was Ugo (The Eagle). He moved back to Egypt where he reigned as Feiroh (Pharaoh). He had his son, Abamelek, born in Egypt.

BC 1914 Abamelek was born in Egypt. He, too, ruled Egypt as Feiroh(Pharaoh). He fathered Feiroh Malekeh.

BC 1842: Feiroh(Pharaoh) Malekeh was born...He succeeded his father in ruling Egypt. He had his son, Neferedoh, here, whom he later banished to Nubia. He was a friend to the Biblical Abraham.

BC 1797: Neferedoh, born in Egypt. He was later to be banished by his father to Nubia. But he returned to Egypt with his army drawn on iron chariots, and ruled as Haiki-suo (Hyksos). He was the ruler or Hyksos of Egypt after his paternal cousin Hyksos Ki-yan (Kaiyan), the son of Benin (Ubini, Bini), the grandson of Qai-neh, (Alka-eneh), the great-grandson of Alka(Aka), who entered Egypt with his soldiers drawn in iron chariots. His chariots of iron were made by his ijigoons (ijigun) (singular, ojogun), that is, blacksmiths. He was the father of Edoh (Edo). Haiki-suos continually poured into Egypt from the nearby Nubia, for a period, to have a taste of ruling Egypt.

BC 1711: Sobotep was born of Nefer-edoh in Egypt. He, however, settled in Nubia, in the place called, Meroe(Mei-roh) (the name meant, ‘Come and look/see’). His name which, also, was variously called, Sobotie or Sobotiye, meant ‘Urhobo calls’. He moved the worship of (edjor) Ay-ra (pronounced ‘Hei-ra’) from Egypt to Nubia.

Nubia was initially considered to be the end of the world when one left Egypt into it because of its bordering endlessly stretching, waterless and hostile desert. Hence, Urhobo called it ‘Na-Oba/Ona-oba’, which has been modified to ‘Nubia’. The names meant, ‘This is the end (place)’. It was not until the Romans made a route over its deserts that led to Chad – that is, the Trans-Saharan Trade Route – that they realized that Nubia was not the world’s end after all.

The ancestors listed below were all blue-blooded. But they did not always rule because other kin ethnic groups took turns to rule as Nubian Feirohs.

Also called and known as Umukoro and K’oro, Umukoro was a Feiroh who ruled in Nubia. There was prosperity in his time in Nubia, during which much oro (gold) was mined. He introduced the worship of the one-legged, ‘air-borne’/sky deity, Cizzar (Aziza), also called Zeus, to Nubia.

In AD 612 he led the ethnic groups that arrived in present-day Nigeria. His royal title in their common territory (whose name later became called Ton Alka or o-Ton r’ Alka, or Bini land) in Nigeria, was, ‘Ugo-suo Omo Oni-ya-asun’. The title and name meant, ‘The Eagle rules/reigns, Let him come/advance (‘mo/Omo’), Oni-ya-asun’. (Alternative Urhobo words for mo/Omo are ‘bi/Obi’, and ‘ze/Eze’, all having the same meaning.) He had changed the royal title from Pharaoh to Ugo-suo (Ugo-suo meant, ‘The Eagle rules or reigns’).

He was succeeded by Ugo-suo Omo Tova-edo(h) of Alka (Bini, Benin) ruling house (following their previous practice in Nubia, of rulership by rotation among the ethnic groups), who changed the royal title from Ugo-suo to Ogiso.

In AD 634 he had a son who was known and addressed as Omo-oni-ya-asun, which for purpose of differentiation between father and son we shall call Omo-oni-ya-asun Junior.

The Urhobo clans and heads that made the exodus were Ur-hwohwa, Ewu, Atbon (Agbon), Ekkeh-ode (Ekeode) which represents present day Uvwie, Igboze (representing Okpe), Korkoh (representing present Ughienvwen), and their sisters, Udu and Isi-oko (Isoko), and Igboze’s wife, Olomu (also called Onomu).

ScionofUrhobo, these are very difficult to take in and truth be told, the whole thing seems unbelievable. The history of the Urhobos have from time immemorial being a debate as their are four postulations concerning this same thing

The first is that the Urhobos are the original dwellers and owners of their territory who have been living in their territories from time immemorial. (I find this unbelievable because migration would have happened and that would best explain the similarity between ours and some Edoid groups.)

The second tradition is that the Urhobos left Edo at the end of the Ogiso dynasty in search of more peaceful locations as a result of “cruelty, animosity and tyranny” which pushed them out of the Benin kingdom. (This is most likely to be)

The third tradition is that the Urhobos migrated from Ile-Ife in Yorubaland. (This is not in any way correct. Benin is tied to Ilé-Ifẹ̀. It best supports the idea that we stemmed from Edo, but from Ilé-Ifẹ̀? I don't think so.)

The fourth is that the Urhobos migrated from
Sudan and Egypt. (This is already discussed extensively, all thanks for you. However, I don't think this is true in any way.)

Besides, night in Urhobo is ASO, and not ASUN.

AD 1221: Orogun.

Orogun was the last child of Ur-hwohwa. She had three brothers. She founded the Orogun kingdom of the present Delta State. Her elder brother was Ughei-eni (Ughelli) after whom Ughelli Local Government Areas of Delta State of Nigeria are named. She was a great hunter who married from Uku-ani (‘an elder is there’), that is, Kwale. Her husband’s name was Efe (pronounced, ‘Effay’). She gave birth to Ugono, among other children. The name, Ugono, meant, ‘shine, Eagle’.

AD: 1230: Ugono.

He led his relatives to found Ugono clan of Orogun kingdom.

Your write up was in English NOT Urhobo - so why does it require an Urhobo to understand it? Also, there is no such thing as the 'universal language.' The 'plain' truthfulness of your claim will be judged ONLY by its consistency with reality and evidence.

Putting these facts in English language is actually for ease of general understanding. But, you need to follow the language to know the truth. The Urhobo language is universal, in that it is the first language from Ayram (Aydam). And, you see, a people cannot really be divorced from their origin. It's only the ignorant that chooses to be ignorant.
