Lets just be objective here. Meera is portrayed as a strong woman who protected a cripple Bran(male) from white walkers, fed him and pulled him on a wodden bed for months.

Brienne is portrayed as a powerful warrior who has fought against three of the most skillful warriors in Westeros: Loras, Jamie and Sandor, all male. And she defeated all of them in single combat. She even held Jamie as prisoner for weeks. She also ended the life of Stannis.

Most of the Theon scenes with his Sister sort of makes my claim valid. The one when he was standing in front of Dany with his sister in episode 9 of season 6 was cringy for me. The grin on Dany's face. Sigh. Then you have the scene in the previous episode with Ellaria bossing him around. Lol.

Then there is Lady Lyanna Mormont talking down harshly at older men, all the time.

Currently, all the shows powerful characters are all female, except Jon. The males are subservient to them. It's like they killed off all the men, or cut off their balls, or sent them on long errands so that the women would occupy positions of power.

Maybe I am over thinking this, but it just seems too over the top for a show set in medieval times.

I have no qualms with trying to portray women as powerful and strong and capable. My only issue with it is when it's being done at the expense of men. I have seen this theme in Nickelodeon shows, cartoons and certain aspects of pop culture. It plays neatly into some of the supported theories that I harbour.

I see your point. But I don't see it as compulsion or forced, I think it is very natural coupled with a lot of character development for the female characters by the writers.

I mean these ladies have been sold(in marriage) by men who claimed to care about them, take Cersei, then Dany and of course Sansa. . .who was raped! (And the whole scene was made more about Theon than the girl being raped) they've met terrible monsters disguising as men.

They've developed from puppets to masters of the game. They let the sexist bastards slaughter each other in the War of the Five Kings, and now it's time for the Queens to battle.

Even if it's fan-servicing, it's well deserved. Women need to be potrayed as power hungry badasses on GOT too. Let them shine.
