Geographically we are in the middle belt.
Geopolitically we are in the North.
Politically we align with any zone(s) or region(s) that protects our interest and gat our back simply because politics is all about interest.

Our identity is more in our culture and conviction than the language we speak because of our diverse ethnicity.

Politically we are the most strategic region or zone among others. This is what the core North understand earlier and better than our near southern neighbour.

Unfortunately our most near-southern neighbour the SE thinks political interest should be by parochialism of religion and proximity whereas the core North rightly thinks it should be political bargain. This of course has given the later the political advantage over the years.
Just look at the rubbish someone they kill his people every day is saying because of money. Your likes & that of Unongo, omenkalives, Onochie & the rest will definitely pay for betraying your people for a pot of porridge.

As long as your governors are members of 19 northern states, you are part of north... When your governors starts Middle Belt governors' forum, then we can take you serious but until then, you are a northerner..

Maybe we used to be north.
not any more.

if north is north, why are the Fulani invading our lands And killing us?

As a result of the pressure from the Biafrans and the resultant effect in the Middle Belt, Areas quickly handed over to Paul Unongo just like they gave power to Gowon during the war.

If things heat up, they will look for a middle beltan and hand over the presidency.

our people need to wise up now.

Fulani herdsmen are every where, they don't Care about your religion or where you come from all they Care about is their cattle's.

last few months they clashed with mambila people in taraba state, is taraba now north central?

I'm from the middle-belt.I don't belong to the north. If this fool thinks by speaking he must forcefully copt us into the core north then good luck to him.I'm so much angry my kinsman Gowon played the stooge for these brutes but when they consolidates their grip on power, then they brazenly push him out to where they felt he rightly belongs through the July 29th 1976 coup.Check out the senseless killings inflicted on the middle-belt and other regions down South by the marauding hausa-fulani.I maintained again-"one north and Nigeria" is the slogan when a core northerners is in power.
brother than join south south or south east .I have live with them and I no them better.north and south west is the best place to live. nothing like meddle belt we are northern if u don't like it go and drink snipper and die

I need not be a northerner to know there is a fundamental ideological difference between D Mark, L Maku, Ortom, Lar, Jang etc and Dambazzau, Kwakwanso, El Rufai, Kwande, Sheriff etc.

Anyway, Terkimbi01 and co. Over to you.

And what's the difference between Late Danbaba suntai and Labaran mako?

all those that you mention dress like northerners, they speak Hausa,

so if your division is base on religion, what's the faith of people from Southern Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe and Bauchi? majority of them are Christians, in fact their Christianity is like that of jos and southern Kaduna people.

Sure, of a truth I'm more closer to the Igbos either by proximity or blood line than any tribe in the country be it Igede or Tiv in my state. In fact my mum is from Isi uzor LG. in Enugu state, a neighbouring village to my paternal home in Benue state.

But of a truth, I've not been impressed by the way the Igbos play their politics. They should learn to consult with others, consolidate on their friendship with others before confronting a perceived opposition .

One thing Nnamdi Kanu and his group has done is raise all these questions that need to be answered for us to go forward. However the Igbo in general need to modify their approach.

You are very intelligent and I love your reasoning.
However, on the different approaches by the core north and the south east, I see the north as very subtle.

What they give to us is Greek gifts. we don't really wield any power. they use us at will and dump us at will.

The core north plays us like a game.

as for the East, I think its time we explore a handshake.
don't ignore the ignoble role we played during the war courtesy of the core north.

from all standards, the Igbo's are not violent, they are not killers. On these two accounts the core north can go to blazes.

Perfectly replied with core intelligence. People like u give me reasons to still read comments on nairaland. I just love to argue with people who screw me up with facts like u did.

The Igbos through Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB have changed the national discourse forever.

NK has brought to the fore the true issues that the average contends in his private space.

It's only a matter of time before the wise ones begin to negotiate their way out of this diabolical union, while the rest insist on staying together because of free oil money.

If your region is still hoping on a united Nigeria , then you are a cursed people.
What u just post does not make sense. If it was easy, why have Ipob not done their own so called negotiations to leave? That is because the same Ipob cannot leave without the regions that produce the free money, which they will never get except they must fight to get it, from the look of things, it's not a win win situation for u. Losers

Benue sate is not north simple!!!! now let's look at some indices,
1) the predominant means of communication in the north is hausa
2) but you can never learn how to speak hausa even if you stay for a hundred years in Benue sate
3) most northern states fall under the territorial district conquered by usman danfodio which makes them predominantly islamic states.
4) but Benue state is a predominantly christian practicing state with catholic and NKST as its major worship centers.

OGA!! you can incorporate other states as being north o!!!! but pls leave the UMBC for Benue state if you don't want my trouble today.

The main issues is that the smartest igbos prefer cool private life where they are practically no limits

Of every one in Igbo land it's one dumb Kanu that want to campion Biafra

Claim igbos was lumped into Nigeria but added more than 30 tribes without even consulting them and when they talk you call them names

It's just a pity but politics don't apeal to the smart igbos and the few that are smart go there for money and the more few that want to work are chased out[/s]

The assertion of the Timid.
Nigeria is LAW by Royal Charter.
And if it pleases, Nigerians alone can democratically and constitutionally ZONE Nigeria into 4 equal Cardinal Directions of the Compass. And no single individual, however highly placed, can deprive Nigerians of this fundamental human rights.

If the above listed were the only consequences of aligning with the north, I wouldn't have been overly pertubed. My major concern is that they still go about shedding the blood of the so-called North Central people relentlessly.

The election time is getting closer and there is palpable fear in the Core North that the Middle Belt is beginning to wake up to realise that they hold the ace in determining who rules Nigeria.

Suddenly it is One Arewa North again, Paul Unongo (a Tiv man) has quickly being appointed as Northern Elders Forum chairman.

MB region is now privy to the political schemings and attepts to depopulate their areas with herdsmen terrorists.
Northern minorities want to be known as Middle Belters and not North Central a term dreaded by the Core North because it gives an identity to the minorities.
Jonathan was naive by focusing on appealing to the Core North with infrastructure and other developments while ignoring the Middle Belt which led to his loss.
Southern politicians should focus on the MB, because they hold they hold the ace,
According to Prof. Jerry Gana the term Middle Belt gives a strong political identity to the minorities in the North and this is dreaded by the Core North. Amb Kwande can shove his One North down his A hole.

As an Igbo man I don't intend to go into politics

But when I watch my people complain about how the north dominate politics I laugh

Honestly it will not take me 10 years to dislodge Hausa/Fulani from power

There are a lot of oprressed tribes in the north ...build a party that will give the northern minority a chance and what Hausa/Fulani lose over 8 states in the north if not more

Igbo leaders are not calculative when it comes to politics ....Jonathan should have never been president ( igbos should have supported the north ) we would be in power now

My people are too individualistic ...

Through out my life I will try to unit the igbos (economically ).... We can dominate Nigeria like we did in the 60s to 70s

Why should everything be about domination

Oh jeez you blew my mind! I have always said this: YES! an average Igbo man is so self-confident (up to the point of foolish arrogance) BUT the Igbo people are not a violent people. An Igboman will rather sell to you, perhaps at an inflated price, than kill you. The problem with the Hausa and Fulani is that they are too inclined to do violence at any slight excuse. The Yoruba people too are not violent; that's why there hasn't been any major fight between Yorubas and Igbos. Yorubas are very liberal (Hausa people don't particularly like this); the Igbos are non-violent extremists and natural entrepreneurs (they suck at politics); and the Hausas are extremists too (violent though) and quite insecure about their chances of keeping up with the Igbos and Yorubas if they don't have the political power. The best Nigerians are those northern Christians in Taraba, Adamawa, Yobe, Borno et'al
