If religion is so great, why are the most developed countries leaving it? These countries are secular and becoming more and more secular.

1. A third of Americans in the USA will be "non-religious" by 2030
https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observations/the-u-s-is-retreating-from-religion/

2. 53% of British people say that they have no religion. This has been a rising trend since the 70's
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/british-people-atheist-no-religion-uk-christianity-islam-sikism-judaism-jewish-muslims-a7928896.html

3. The three most developed countries in Asia i.e South Korea, China and Japan all are very irreligious
-56% of South Koreans have no religion and the youth are leaving religion at an alarming rate
http://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/features/2017/05/young-south-koreans-turning-religion-170524144746222.html
-60% of the population of Japanese are atheists but 155% are religious as people follow 2 or more religions culturally.
http://www.religionfacts.com/japan
-China is communist and so, people are reluctant to say they are religious. 60% are atheists while on 7% feel religious.

The most irreligious countries are also the most developed countries in the world (except north korea)

% PEOPLE IN COUNTRIES THAT FEEL RELIGIOUS-
China - 7%
Japan - 13%
Estonia - 16%
Sweden - 19%

♤ It's because most Christians pray more than they work, which shouldn't be so

♤ God does not give wealth; He gives you the power and ability to gain wealth

They might have no religion but;
they won't oppressed their fellow human
They won't send soldiers to harass and kill unarmed citizens
They won't purposely keep people poor to take advantage over them
They won't start killing because the other person does not believe in what they believe
They won't live in penury yet contribute money for one person to buy private jet
They won't erect status for corrupt leaders
They won't sleep well if more than 50% of the population are unemployed or underemployed

Nigeria is not a zoo.....pls stop painting my father land black......it is we the individual that are turning against the fundamental law of God(love)....

Who religion don EPP?

Religion don help the world as a society....some of the first societies to arise were based solely around a common religion. Without religion, it would have been extremely unlikely for humans to find any cultural common ground. Most early tribal peoples would have driven each other to extinction based on the belief that one group must be superior than the other. Religion provided the belief that humans are under a deity, and therefore equal (In the case of most religions).

Religion don help nigeria greatly...many benefits in our society exist today due to prevalent of religion...it provides a sense of unity for communities and most religions provide charity services at no expense to the state or the tax payer. Churches, Mosques, temple, and other forms of voluntary institutions are simply more able to provide aid to those in need than individuals or governments.

My brother, let us not lie to ourselves. Religion is a problem and not a solution as far as Nigeria is concerned. The way we practice religion in Nigeria is just too much.

Go and see christians in Europe. They mind their business. They mostly do not tithe. Churches there dont disturb peace with loudspeakers and they pay tax. They are very discreet with miracles. They actually do proper charity that helps (not just giving bags of rice).

Christians read the bible just to put their belief in it rather than Understanding it....

we read books to Understand it not to Belief in it....
that's where Christians confusions emanates from...

We can't begin to pursue the lifestyle of others hence making theirs a standard. We are different and our uniqueness is a function of our understanding and revelation of whom we worship. You don't expect one who wants to be extraordinary to follow the path of the ordinary else he yields mediocrity . Do you know how the church of old functioned? . It's high time you stopped comparing the Europeans with the Nigerian way of worship. I repeat, we are different.

Nigeria will take the world by storm as the Lord is raising soldiers who will cause havoc in the kingdom of darkness.. The geological formation of the earth was differentiated and tectonically disturbed. The continental plates were believed to have been one(pangea) till they were drifted apart across oceanic beds in position relative to one another, hence forming individual continents. Specifically, Africa being a major continent is like the shape of a gun and Nigeria is located at the trigger... This formation is not ordinary... We haven't started yet. Your judgement of religion is only attributed to Christians, but ur ignorance is overlooked.

Spirituality is templated on religion , oddly but we Africans are overly religious and borders nauseating sanctimony most times.

More of spirituality and less of conformist rituals which come with religion seems more like it.

Please beware of false information on this forum by atheists

1. China

According to Yang and Hu (2012) , 55.5% of the adult population (15+) of China, or 578 million people in absolute numbers, believe and practice folk religions, including a 20% who practice ancestor religion or communal worship of deities .

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_folk_religion#Demographics

And this is just the population that deals with traditional religions in China like Han folk religion and Confucianism . The remaining population comprises of Christians , Muslims , Buddhist and other religions

In the same China , by 2030, China's total Christian population, including Catholics, would exceed 247 million, placing it above Mexico, Brazil and the United States as the largest Christian congregation in the world, he predicted.

2. Japan

In 2009, an official survey showed that over half the Japanese families had a "butsudan" or Buddhist altar in their homes. A 2009 data from the Agency of Cultural Affairs stated that there were 89 million Buddhists in Japan. In 2011, Usa Today reported that 90% of the Japanese identified as Buddhist or Shinto or a combination of both.

Yes, that is correct! the richer you become the more difficult it is for you to enter the kingdom of God. Remember the parable of the rich man and poor Lazarus. Problems/poverty make people turn to religion/God for help/hope. That is just how it is universally.

Who religion don epp?

1.Isaac Newton in his total devotion to science . Dubbed 'Father of Modern Physics' and was a totally devote Christian theologian

2. Michael Faraday in his discovery of electricity as a Sandemarian

3. The great military strategist Oliver Cromwell - suffered depression , had suicidal thoughts , discovered religion and his belief in providence propelled him to the top . He used psalms and hymns to create a sense of unity and strong belief in his army . His army defeated King Charles 1

4. Alexander the Great . His superstitious and idolatrous mum Olympias' prophecy that he would rule all known world gave him a sense of purpose in life . This confidence in his mother's prophecy was an animus during victory against the Persian Empire .

I can go on and on and on ... Please don't ask such question next time

But if I may ask, where did you come about your 'fact' that 80 percent Japanese were religious in 2009? Wikipedia?
Wikipedia even reports that less than 40% of the Japanese population identified with an organised religion in 2006.

The Shinto religion has been part of the Japan since ancient times even up till now before Buddhism and other religions came along . Some see the Shinto religion as a lifestyle which does not require membership and not an organized religion that's why they came out as non-religious . The same issue with Confucianism and Christianity . Some consider these religions as a way of life and consider themselves as non-religious . This is why Wikipedia labelled less than 40 percent of the Japanese population as religious or part of organized religion .

In Japan alone , Shinto has 81,000 shrines and 85,000 priests in the country grin

What I mean is that, instead of me joining a religion for association sake, I'd rather create associations like ASSOCIATIONS OF BRAIN USERS, FOOTBALL VIEWERS ASSOCIATION, RESEARCH ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA, SINGLES ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA, GOOD MENTALITY BUILDING ASSOCIATION, ASSOCIATION OF BAD gods JAILERS, etc
All these unexisting associations are waiting for people like you and me to bring them to reality or reincarnate them. I'm no football viewer, I would have erected that FVA where registered members can start watching football, highlight, football histories, news etc from morning till evening. I'm sure some xtians would wanna join the association, thereby reducing the rate at which they get scammed by the likes of pastor Adebole, Oledepo, Kumole and Olekoya.

False Data, Statistics Sampling.

That an organization decided to gather 200 people out of 2000 population then decided to conducted survey with the randomly or specially selected person.

A census report is more reliable, because its a state sponsored that will captures more participants.

By the way atheism is not responsible for world/country development, passion and self-discovery is.

Whenever I asked atheist what has atheism has contributed to humanity, I usually got unintelligent responses stating achievement of individual who discovered their God given talent.

Vooks a former member of NL once challenge all Nairaland atheist to bring out their work NONE of them could present anything.

Then if Nairaland atheist could not present what they have done to developed Nigeria, what effrontery do that have to say religion cause underdevelopment of a country especially Nigeria.

An ordinary Thread on Nairaland to motivate people to be more productive, they have nor create yet they are dying to create anti Christian thread. SHAME on all Atheist who have nothing to offer humanity

bravo ...brilliant idea ........most of those who died in Iraq were not rebels.... The rebels were Muslim....... Whenever they are at heavy bombardment, the rebels run to their Muslim brother.....why the non religious men run to nowhere...,.an they are caught in the middle the war.....

The Jos riot...... The largest group that died were not the tribal men nor religious group.....the dead were mainly innocent.....

And so many example I can gave.....
