Prechbills:You can see how stupid feminists are and how retarrded feminism is. To these fools, only women exist, only women suffer, and only they are disadvantaged and prejudiced against by an evil patriarchy. Fücking cretins. This is why I never take the dumbasses seriously. If they want to be taken seriously: 1) Apart from foaming in the mouth like imbêciles and emitting choking fumes like rusty stoves, crying about how women are under-respresented in corporate and tech jobs, they should also start drawing attention to how much women are under-represented in the Military, and how they're largely absent in the frontlines and theaters of war, how women are under-represented in construction jobs and the likes. 2) They should start attacking misandrists as much as they do misogynists. No tolerance for neither. That would make their claims about equality convincing enough. 3) They should shift the narrative about rape and child-sexual abuse from being centered around the girl child to being inclusive of both genders. 4) They should stop twisting historical facts and telling pitiful lies to paint women as victims - can you imagine Hilary Clinton saying women are the PRIMARY victims of war? Can you imagine the retardation, stupidity and the gall to spew batshit? 5) They should start condemning the privilege of leniency women enjoy when it comes to sentencing, compared to men. Until they stop this one-sided nonsense, they remain confused idiots and foolish rats. 3 Likes |

makydebbie:That's from your view point, we all interpret literary text differently, its not about being bias and I didn't dismiss the theme of post colonialism in the text. I'm using a feminist approach to interpret the text, feminist critics focuses on how on the text has represented women and the relationship between men and women, the exploration of thoughts, feelings, intellect and actions of women, it also exposes the oppression of women. Yes Beatrice is not the only one being victimized in the novel her children are also victimized and as the mother of the children she bears the pain more, her family victimization and oppression is as a result Patriarchy, Ade Coker oppression can be seen from the stand point of military rule. An author may adopt different stance in writing a novel, the novel is in a post colonial period therefore the evils of colonialism which is religion is depicted in the text. I'm not saying you are wrong but you are interpreting it only from the point view of post colonialism. 3 Likes 2 Shares

sweetetlove:Okay ma'am. You're a feminist so it's expected to see it from that angle. I'm neutral, everything involving violence and high handedness was stemmed from religious bigotry. 1 Like |

sweetetlove: stop typing feminism on the search bar, type only purple hibiscus. women oppression is a theme in the novel, if you read the novel carefully (read it again today in a literature textbook) they were all dependent on Eugene. Eugene refused to help aunty ifeoma because she refused to join his knights Hood, Beatrice was hitted with a stool when she was 6weeks pregnant. aunty ifeoma told her to leave the house but she said; do you know how many times mothers offer him their children for him to marry even without bride price? she was given an alternative but she refused to leave simply because she was getting something from the man. if you also notice, you can see that she isn't working, she's dependent if she was independent the man couldn't have treated her that way, she would simply rent another apartment with her own money and move in with her kids lessons learnt; Most women stay in abusive relationships/marriages because of greed, laziness/dependency bride price is the no. 1 cause of domestic abuse most women stay in abusive relationships/marriages because of other people's opinions thinking people would say bad things about them. |

makydebbie: I'm perplexed when you refer to this people as "feminists" because they're not feminists, they only advocate for feminism on nairaland and twitter, people who shout every hour that I'm a feminist, feminist this and that are those ones feminists? I've known Oprah Winfrey since 2011 till date and I've never seen her shouting every hour that she's a feminist in programs or on her social media pages, a true feminist doesn't call herself a feminist, her actions make people describe her as a feminist |

Prechbills:where do you classify the theme of women oppression if not under Feminism or do you want to classify it under post colonialism? Ifeoma is educated , she stands up for her rights no matter the consequences, she fends for her family and she is not dependent on Eugene. Beatrice on the other hand is not educated and she is the opposite of Ifeoma. Feminism advocates for education for the female child. Education empowers women to be productive. One can succinctly say that Adichie believes in education for the girl child. Beatrice is a type of woman that believes that her marriage to her husband is worth all the humiliation and victimization she goes through and sees it as a privilege considering the fact that he can marry another woman if he pleases. She is embodiment of African culture and traditions which you know is a taboo for an African woman to be a divorcee. I agree that most women stay in abusive marriage because of greed, laziness, lost of hope and what the society might say but you have to include African tradition and culture. If I want to undertake a study of the text i can use both Post colonialism and feminism as an approach. You can't rule out feminism in the novel, if you do then you are reading the text at a superficial level. As a literary critic I'm interested in how the writer has used language, form and style in order to convey meaning and the subject matter in the text, I read for the content, understanding of the subject matter and the reason and motivation behind every line not just for leisure and lesson learnt. 3 Likes 1 Share |

sweetetlove: bolded.. who's stopping female children from being educated? BTW euguene wasn't the one who made Beatrice an illiterate and I searched for purple hibiscus on Google nothing like feminism was attached when results popped up.. so stop including feminism in the search bar because you're deceiving yourself. |
Re: See What A Feminist Has To Say About A World Without Men by sweetetlove(f): 10:13am On Mar 26, 2018 |
Prechbills:seems you have forgotten the age long belief that educating female children is pointless and only a waste of resources. I didn't say Eugene was the one who made Beatrice uneducated I only stated the difference between Ifeoma who is educated and Beatrice who is an illerate. Don't sweat it, its only a literary text. Maybe you should try asking Google different question like the different approaches to "Purple Hibiscus" I'm done arguing, you are not a literature student the whole argument is pointless. Prechbills:oh now I see where your problem lies, the name feminism gives you high blood pressure. If guys are discriminated in the society then start a movement call it menasim or whatever deem fits you, stop ranting on my mention it won't solve anything either. Maybe you live inside a bush that's y you don't know seminars are being held to educate the female child. Social media is also a way of reaching out to the girl child, the world they say its a global village. Who cares about your seriousness, certainly not me. Yes I have pussy and breast I don't expect anyone to worship me cos they are my sexual organs. Live your life don't let feminism kill you. You should read on different types of feminism and its tenets before condemning the movement. 4 Likes |
