NYC...Update....Brooklyn..on way up to 57 storey. .taller than high rises in the background. They just keep adding on floors...no steel framework. Never thought about toilet facilities for workers on the upper floors until I saw this potable toilet being taken up by the crane!
As the building goes up higher.... the height of the crane support (in yellow) also has to increase by adding more sections.... can you figure out in your mind how that is possible?...to add another piece while the crane is still up there? ...just a brain teaser.

Have been thinking how they add up to the crane for it to go higher.......Just keeping bothering my mind.

Any answer pls?

A constructon worker at another site did explain it to me...but ehmmm.... I'm not ready to talk!....keep flexing your brain.... it's all good!
They now added the blue 'protection shield' to prevent dust and debris from falling on the public below.
One clu3...the crane has a built in hydraulic leg/lift.

NYC....ChangING landscape.... Downtown Brooklyn..skinny tall tan building left of centre used to be the tallest building in Brooklyn...now being dwarfed by modern high rises that keep posting up in the area.
Block of stores...including Dental Office...all being demolished to make way for high rise.
Low profile Barclay's Center Stadium (brown)...built to blend in height with other buildings in the area at the time... now also being dwarfed by new shipping containers cutting edge apartment buildings.

NYC...on set...filming for a TV Series.

I always wondered if you could really just stop and watch filming. It seems so open, how do they keep nosy people from inserting themselves in the scenes?

Also, can you please reveal the answer to the crane riddle. Inquiring minds would love to know.
Thanks a bunch

Hmmm...on filming... in this city they be filming a lot...and it's like a common sense thing here that you not get in the way! On a big production there may be like just two policemen somewhere around...but the production will have a crowd control unit.... they are usually in contact with I guess the director... so when ready to shoot...they will ask pedestrians who need to pass thru the scene to wait for a few minutes until the shot is finished. If a pedestrian insists...the shot has to wait..after all...the street is public. People here don't usually crowd a scene...New Yorkers too busy with other stuffs! All the shots I took are in the hood...where one may expect people be rushing into the scenes...not at all!
Below...a live shot..filming in progress. ..the babe in the yellow skirt is walking towards the camera man farther down the sidewalk. I have no clue if it were an ad or what...kept it moving!

The yellow section has a side that opens....the crane has a hydraulic telescopic leg/lift...similar to the one that a dump truck has that pushes the tray up. To add another section....the crane raises itself using the hydraulic leg which raises the crane high enough to insert the yellow section below. After resting...the 'door' is then closed on the section..the crane lowers itself to rest on it...and the leg is then pulled up ehmmm...into the guts of the crane.

Hey Originalsly,

I am gonna be in the US for some days. Emmm... I want to post some stuffs in here, hope u no go vex? I dont want to create my thread since I am not staying long.

So let me talk about traffic light.
Some years ago, when I first came to the US, crossing the road was kinda stressful for me because the roads are very wide. By the time i get to the middle of the road, a car will be within my sight and so I have to run faster, lol. Even at the traffic light, the do-not-walk pedestrian light stays on for a long time before changing to “walk” and the “walk” sign stays for a very short period. This continued until a child showed me the right way to go about it. Yup! Me an adult learning from a child. Lol. He said I just have to press a button on the pedetrian crossing pole, after sometime it will change from red (do not walk) to white (walk) so I can cross. Na wa! Hopefully this will be installed in our roads in Nigeria.

See pictures below. The blue circle shows where the button is. This information might seem minor, but I know someone will benefit from it.
