Martinez19:you say but i still hope your journey matures well, the first step of discovering God is through atheism, oh did i mention God? There is no God, the universe is a CIVILIZATION. This you will found out when you delve deep. you'll discover so many answers to some critical questions going on through your mind, your best teacher is being open-mindedeness i.e do not believe everything you read in a book but read as many books on religion and you might find the answer you seek. |

HardMirror:I am multilingual. I think in two languages. And yes, "everything I have the capacity to think about is a function of what my brain processes, what I see, what I hear etc", including what I reason, and whatever I can make up in my brain". I'm going to think about this some. |

frank317:mind is an abstract pact of the brain and central nervous system. Nothing can happen without a thought and thought is process in the mind 1 Like |

pressplay411:no they seemed real but were not really miracles as we would think. Eg praying for the sick worked a lot. Not all the time but to a good extent you see people with malaria and stuff get healed but i have come to realize that it is a phycho-physical interaction. Our mental state could lead to the release of hormones that plays a major role in how strong we are. Eg fear releases adrenalin which makes it possible for even an injured man to run. The atmosphere of prayers could be so comforting that it relieves stress and enables the release of hormones needed for our bodies to focus on strengthening the immune system. What ever healing you would get is always one that is naturally possible for your body. Things like organ regeneration wld be impossible. That is why no amount of prayers would heal an amputee. This alone is proof that the prayers were not the cause of healing. Raising the dead? Sure, the 'dead' can come back to life, it happens even with non believers a quick google search wld show you that people pronounced dead do wake up more often than people think. But would a beheaded man wake up? Absolutely no. Until prayers actually do these things that would never naturally occur, it is foolish to think prayers work 4 Likes 1 Share |

vaxx:indeed it is an abstract part of brain process. We call it mind not cos it is a physical entity but because we need to name the process of thoughts embodiment |

Re: My Nairaland Journey From Christianity To Atheism In Pictures. by HardMirror(m): 4:16pm On Sep 14, 2018 |
pressplay411:absolutely not. I stated realizing after an out reach in which we prayed for a blind community chairman in an ondo community called Ajabuto. The man had all the faith we also had faith for his healing but in the end he was still blind. It really got me thinking and reviewing a lot i thought i knew 1 Like |

vaxx:i am also not a neurologist, and i cant just start listing all i know. The summary that relates with this topic is what i have stated clearly; what we call our minds is entirely based on processes taking place in the brain |
Re: My Nairaland Journey From Christianity To Atheism In Pictures. by vaxx: 4:24pm On Sep 14, 2018 |
HardMirror:Anyway, cortex is that part of the brain that regulates the thinking process and it does it in many ways...you should read about it. In particular the prefrontal cortex is the area that modulates rational thinking and it is involved with decision making too. This are all thought thinking pattern which we called mind. |

Re: My Nairaland Journey From Christianity To Atheism In Pictures. by Martinez19(m): 4:35pm On Sep 14, 2018 |
budaatum:The mind is a property the living brain. Cut away your arm but your mind remains intact, cut certain sections of your brain and you lose some of your memory and personality. Drink, snort or inject certain chemicals and the mind changes in what it sees and hears. Your mind is the net result of the structured workings of neurotransmitters and it's receptors; nerve impulses and synaptic transmissions and the special white matter and gray matter structures. Destroy dopaminergic transmission and mental illnesses like depression, inability to handle stress, attention deficient disorder etc. results, remove the corpus callosum and notice a disintegration between the left and right cerebral hemisphere(read about split brain patients). To support HardMirror's point further, the fact that hard drugs like cocain and heroin, through chemical interactions with the brain, invoke emotions of bliss and "high" shows that our emotions have strong biological foundation. The fact that the mind is altered when you significantly alter the brain shows that the mind is a property of the brain and it's functions are reliate on the proper functioning of the brain. The fact that the removal of certain sections of the brain leads the elimination of certain memories and certain aspects of one's personality shows you that the mind is nothing without the brain. I didn't discuss sense organs. At least you know the mind can't perceive without the sense or can the mind see without the eyes? 1 Like |

vaxx:i know this already. It does not change what i have established, has it? The cortex is part of the brain, it is not part of the eyes or tongue or foot is it? This info is not changing what i am saying, you are only further establishing the fact. The mind is not a physical thing, what we call the mind is a function of cerebral process 1 Like |

vaxx: I have been trying to explain the mind concept to the dude from a psychological perspective only for u to come in and call it an ABSTRACT where thoughts are PROCESSED. HardMirror: The truth is I would like a private chat with you. Cos while you see how useless god is, all I will see is how faithful and patient God truly is. He was only trying to teach you faithfulness, humility and stewardship but you weren't patient enough. You needed more discipleship. It's never too late for that. The truth is God never withdraws His gifts once given, He only withdraws His Spirit and Wisdom. Imagine life without those. I was like that not too long ago. Here's my email pls, we should talk more.
