For those who don't understand amphibious warfare, what would you say about British SBS wearing life jackets.

It is what is done on operations because you can drown, whether you can swim or not. It is only divers who don't wear them for obvious reasons.

OK, fair enough. Didn't check before posting. The red jacket though.

Then Abuja that lives in a cocoon, will fall because the soldiers will no longer stand and fight. However, the populus and the political class would not be able to escape. Not by road at least, cause the herdsmen have already cut all routes out and are essentially besieging all Nigerian cities, towns and villages.

EID-EL-FITR MESSAGE FROM THE CAS

It is with great pleasure, and gratitude to the Almighty, that I heartily wish all officers, airmen/airwomen and civilian staff of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) a Happy Eid-El-Fitr! I also wish to congratulate our Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the Ramadan fasting and pray that Almighty Allah accepts our worship and sacrifices whilst guiding us in our future endeavours as we strive to ensure the peace, security and development of our Great Nation.

I wish to particularly thank all NAF personnel for their patriotism, dedication and countless sacrifices made in the various Theatres of Operation. Your valuable contributions have ensured that aircraft and ancillary equipment are available, logistics requirements are in place, administrative necessities are met and personnel are combat-ready to tackle the challenges confronting the Nation. The commitment of Commanders and Supervisors at all levels has also facilitated higher standards of professionalism in the Service through robust, job-focused training; commitment to improving personnel welfare as well as result-oriented Research and Development (R&grin), which have all had a marked positive impact on our operational effectiveness. I must also appreciate our dear families for their unquantifiable support and encouragement, which have enabled us carry on with our constitutional responsibilities more effectively.

It is gratifying to note also that our gallant fighter and helicopter gunship pilots as well as our Regiment and Special Forces personnel are adapting creditably to the threats facing our nation and are making good progress. This is critical to the NAF's increasing capacity for projection as well as protection of Air Power, which are the core functions for which the Service is uniquely positioned.

I therefore enjoin you all to redouble your efforts and engage the security challenges with rugged optimism and renewed determination, while remaining professional in the discharge of your constitutional duty of ensuring the security of our Beloved Nation and its Good People. You must be courageous, take the battle to all the adversaries of our Great Nation, be they terrorists, insurgents, bandits or any other criminal elements, in synergy with our Sister Services and other security agencies. Fight them to the finish, not minding the malicious propaganda of the terrorists and their sympathisers. You must also remember, in the course of your duties, to always operate within the ambits of extant local and international laws, while showing compassion and respect for all law-abiding citizens.

Importantly, in our celebration of this festive season, let us also take time to remember our colleagues who have paid the supreme price in service to our fatherland. We remember them today as always and restate our commitment to cater for the needs of their loved ones and those they left behind. Let their memories and deeds spur us on to a higher level of dedication that would ensure that their sacrifices were not in vain.

Finally, I once again wish you all and your families a Happy Eid-El-Fitr!

SB ABUBAKAR
Air Marshal
Chief of the Air Staff

For all our sakes, let's hope that you are right and I am wrong. However, I am sure I will be proven right yet again. That is if we don't do the needful.
Let's hope you stand up and take a bow when it comes to pass. I would also do likewise if you are right that I am exaggerating.

You were probably one of those years ago on beegeagles blog that called me an alarmist, when I predicted that towns and military base will fall if the military does not rapidly rearm and get competent embedded military advisers.

A lot of you have migrated with me to this thread and yet would never own up to it. Not for my ego, but for the survival of nigeria.

I'm so much against bringing feminism into our armed forces, because most atimes these women are giving leverages during training if any woman must be in any special unit then it must be earned and what I mean by that is they should undergo the same strenuous activities as their male counterparts. America which is one of the bedrocks of feminism till date don't have a female in any if their seal teams. Sometimes last year the only woman who underwent training to join the US seal team had to voluntarily withdraw because of the terrible exercises.
In Nigeria the same people hailing the military for bringing women closer to battle will be the first to castigate and throw morale wrenching cusses at the military if a female soldier is captured or executed by BHT.

My Auntie just passed away on Mother's day
( American Mother's day)
She was among Nigeria's First Female officers.
She fought in the Civil War.
She didn't ask for any special favors.
There is this myth in Nigeria that has to do with ignorance that when a female joins the NA they are given special favors they are not.
If we go by factual history , Nigerian Women have been fighting as Soldiers before Nigeria was a Country.
Let's quit acting like it doesn't happen because it is happening.
If a Nigerian woman as is her right fills out the application to join and is selected it is her God given and Constitutional right to do as she pleases.

Yes your aunt must have being involved in the civil war but not as a combatant prolly what the army calls fatigue tools(Supporting role) except you wanna tell us she drove tanks, was in the infantry or artillery( which wasn't possible as of then) even recently that combatant course was approved for female cadets, army don't post them to the frontlines.
That being said, I've seen female cadets train, countless times in NDA there are alot of privileges they're being given unlike there male colleagues.
If you had read my comment carefully, you would have noticed that I'm not against women joining specialized fighting units as long as corners are not being cut. As far as special forces operations is concerned there is no room for feminism, it should be purely on merit.

Ere
Please the picture in here House is not of her carrying anything or treating fellow soldiers.
There were only 2 pictures she displayed.
One when She made Major.
The other is her at the front.
Firing a Rifle in combat
Like I said a lot of what is being bandied about Female Soldiers in Nigeria has to do with ignorance..
We are also very thankful one thing Nigeria actually got right.
Joining the Armed Forces is voluntary.

This is my final take and understand there are somethings I have left out due to classified reasons.
As we Speak there are female Soldiers in infantry. They are not there to do their makeup.
During the first War at Baga. There were female NA casualties. This too me is the strongest reasons for the CONTINUED recruiting of female Soldiers.
A Female NA who was killed in the NE was 25 years old.
She didn't ask for any favors.
Instead when asked , She said if I die , I die.
The other myth. She was educated to the degree level so she wasn't job hunting.
As for SFs let me address this once and for all.
They are needed.
The enemy has employed countless numbers of females not just to act as bomb couriers but to do other dastardly deeds.
Nigeria is behind in this war in recruiting females in this war for SFs Ops
In the Civil War they were ahead.
They literally have catching up to do.

While I agree with you on some points,I will go with Ugo on this. Women who join the military in this country are usually given special privileges,it will not help anyone to deny the obvious truth. You get to see trainers going soft on them, and they sometimes even get to obtain exemptions from training, citing menstruation or other such airy excuses.

In any case, women are acclaimed to be very good shooters due to their greater sense of coordination and balance. There are countries that train elite forces comprising solely of women, but they usually serve as snipers. When it comes to all round SFs, women have no place there.

High altitude, low opening parachute jump.....you jump at high altitude using gas masks and specialized cloths to glide more effectively.....to cover a long distance, and give the aircraft relative safety......then open the parachute at low altitudes, you could over a distance of as much as 40kms using this technique, there is also HAHO: OPENING the chute at high altitude.
