Did she really say that? Am shocked she is this political naive.
She is not naive. She is strategic.
She claims fighting racism but rubbishes her culture. She claims embracing African culture with hairstyle and attire but promotes lesbianism and gay stuff. She wrote a novel about Biafra but rubbishes the idea of modern Biafra. She claims to be a proud black woman but codedly promotes Western permissiveness. She preaches feminism but is married with kids and probably does traditional things for her hubby at home.

When somebody starts winning all these awards from oyinbo, for writing and saying what they like, I begin to look at the person carefully. Whose. Interest they actually serve.

This lady is sweet talking all the sides, especially those who call the shorts. The whites call the shorts globally and the Nigerian state does so nationally. Both have more to offer her than Africa and non-existent Biafra state.

Very clever lady. But necessarily on the best side of history?

No tribe or region in Nigeria is completely in unison, as long as there are different intellectuals and individuals there will always be diverse of thoughts.

"Igbo can't do this, Igbos can't do that" is just another way of causing unnecessary digression
Everybody must not support a cause, sometimes it is not the quantity of those who are for a cause that matters it is the quality, the weight, the strength, the zeal and passion.

I am Yoruba but I can tell you that Biafra can be achieved if the zeal and passion to achieve it is strong.
Even though on several occasions I have disagreed and openly condemned Kanu's way of agitating I think Kanu has the interest of Igbos at heart more than some of these so called Igbo elites, intellectuals and politicians.
In what way has Chimanda supported the Biafra or Igbo Presidency agenda?

Ka ye pa iro fun ara wa.
Ko si nkan nkan to wu ni lori lati je omo orile ede yi.

How many Yorubas supported Obasanjo's Presidency?
He still won because sometimes it is not about the quantity but the quality.

Nigeria is too big to have a central government, we need to restructure or break up.

The discourse now should not be whether Igbos are United or not, it should rather be how can she contribute her own quota in helping the Igbos achieve what they want.

God bless u

U have said it all

Did you go to school? If yes did you sleep through all lessons? If not, what is confusing in Adichie's opinion which is that Igbos are confused and not united over what they want and thus likely to fail? What she writes below is clear enough for even a child of 6 to understand.

You guys are just too egotistical, belligerent and vainglorious to ever accept correction over your redundant ways and mindset.

True talk

Where is Tinubu mentioned here and what concerns him with words meant to make Igbos do some introspection and soul-searching?

Go and deal with the issues one of your foremost and most revered Igbos has raised and leave Tinubu off your tongue for once.

Abi Adichie is no longer in the category of Igbos who can say and do no wrong?

Exactly what Adichie is trying to let them understand. But, their blindness and backwardness to the issues she raised know no bounds.

Everyone is the problem but themselves.

But Tinubu's sins are many
Tinubu is stopping them from uniting.
Tinubu is stopping their Governors from developing their states.
Tinubu is stopping them from reasoning.
Tinubu is stopping them from holding their state Governments responsible.
Tinubu destroyed their roads with his tractors. Etc

I bet you, they are really envying Tinubu.

Did you read her comment up there about how she and her sisters treated at their father's burial?

Mr doubter..
Is she the Ada of the family? What are you even saying here? So she should find a canopy and sit-down, then who will attend to the guest? Are those the qualities of a good host? I'm the only son of my family, during my dad's burial i was too busy greeting guest and making sure that everyone that attended the burial was well cathered for rather than looking for a sit to sit-down and cross my legs. This even shows that she has a shallow personality all in the name of feminism. And yes you just confirmed my doubt, you are definitely not Igbo, please represent your tribe and stop impersonating ours. Thank you.
In Igbo tradition the Umuada are the most powerful group, even more powerful than the umunna. Nobody dares go against the decision of the Umuada even the Chief and Ezes dare not go against the Umuada. Stop your ignorance and misinforming others on what you know nothing about.

Freedom of speech is your right lady.
We have the right to disagree on issues.
I don't believe that Igbo presidency will solve our problems bcoz the same cabal will still handpick a sellout who can't do much for us.
Again No tribe is United so to say.

I can see that her points were lost on you. She just used her father's burial as an example of how we as igbos make our daughters second class citizens in our communities both as daughters in their father's houses and as wives in their husbands' houses as wives. It's tradition and we all agree that it's inevitable but it's tradition that traditions change with time. That's her point. I don't quite agree with her but she has a point.

By the way, you are igbo and I am not. Are you happy now?

Lol Adichie trying to be diplomatic and let Igbos and their fragile egos down lightly. She should just come out and say she regrets being Igbo and an Igbo woman specifically because we know how scathing and mercilessly critical she would be, placard and all, if a Yoruba woman , in Yorubaland, went through what her and her mother went through at her father's funeral.

This is another Igbo who will certainly never ever live in SE Nigeria but does not want to risk upsetting Igbo coming out to say their ways is repressive, unfair, shameful and disgustly misogynistic.

IPOBian, one of your most distinguished female has spoken. Hope you can all see you have work to do and are far behind the civilised , sophisticated and effortlessly suave Yorubas you're always trying to square up to.

Go and fix your broken homes, States and region instead of obsessing over others. I am sure that is the message Adichie would love to pass but can never knowing you intolerant babies would likely banish her family from ala Igbo. Lol.

It doesn't matter who is speaking, if you ain't speaking sense, you are only making noise. First question is, can a woman marry a man into her father's house? Why are women not fighting for it? Truth is this, we can't afford to have many sugar mummies and divorced women in Igboland like it is elsewhere in Nigeria. Women's pride of place is in their husbands homes, any woman fighting to upturn the culture is fooling herself. Our values encourage good upbringing of the girl child to societal standard and not instilling feminists ideologies in them. A well brought up woman should be able to appreciate her gender and place of her gender in any system.

Lol. You Igbos and your egotistical outlook. You think you guys are the only ones who note that Nigeria needs fundamental reforms?

Of course not. The difference is that others know to try and work pragmatically through legally enforceable and constitutional-endorsed avenues of change.

Best example is control of ultimate executive power through the office of the Presidency many believe the South should work for and can use to shape Nigeria in a more equitable image whereas you Igbos are always anarchic, ehtnocentric, hateful, bigoted and extremist in approach.

You guys have not changed from the same lawless people who illegally and impatiently declared Biafra , against the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria, to gain what you wanted, regardless of it's illegality in law, only to then cry 'genocide' when you became the main victim of a war you could never win yet went ahead to prosecute mindlessly and egotistically anyway.

Today, it is history repeating itself. Political solutions are required yet you Igbos, with the antics of Kanu and your incendiary approach, want to force an ethnic/internecine strife alone as your preferred solution. let's see how things play out.
If Nigeria was made up of all the other ethnic groups excluding Igbos, you all would have been swallowed up by now. That's all I'll tell you. I'll overlook all the negative adjectives you used to define Ndigbo. If I was to define your own people, you'll run away. Just to clarity you, Igbos hate no one. Igbos have not even responded up to half the hatred others show them.
As.for the present, any how those who hate us bring it we shall equally respond in kind. One thing is clear... No Igbo man shall be killed in vain again.
