I'm getting married in August in Canada. Future husband is not Igbo and I've never been to an Igbo wedding. What is the agenda for a traditional Igbo wedding and why do Nigerian weddings last so long?

Friday, maybe 5:30pm start:
1. Opening prayer (5mins)
2. Introduction and special recognition of guests on high table and seats (15 mins)
3. Bridal entrance with friends (5mins)
5 Bride’s tasked to find the groom. Bride gives him palm wine and he puts money in her cup (5 mins - pls what's the significance of this?)
6. Couple goes to elders who bless them (10 mins)
7. Groom presents gifts to bride's family (5 mins)
8. Dinner and drinks (60 mins)
9. Couples first dance (10 mins)
10. Cutting of the cake and feeding each other (5 mins)
11. Speeches from best man/woman (5 mins)
12. Vote of thanks and closing prayer (5 mins)
13. Dancing can continue.

Am I missing anything?

There's nowhere in this thread where I said food banks are run by the government. But as you can see from the links I provided, the government may sometimes support them in their operations.
The point is, the gentleman in the video got his food delivered to his doorstep. That was his own experience and I don't think anyone should call him a liar without any strong evidence to prove that he was in fact lying.

Food banks in Canada deliver, and some did before the pandemic. I managed a food bank and my rotary club is currently volunteering to do drop offs.

Exclusive101:
The problem is he clearly stated supplies " it was distributed at everybody doorstep" were is exact words which was a point blank n straight lie.

Even at that if you make request from food bank online is also a lie. Food bank do not supply food to home even in under this epidemic. You need to get food voucher that you must take to food bank branch before you can be provided with supplies because one those not live in Canada does not mean you are naive to happenings there.

All this I learnt from a relative and someone trying to rubbish Nigeria or it government can not convince me otherwise beside am not foolish to believe an govt in the world can drop supply at every citizen door step.

Yes, food banks are private. But the government also funds food banks through grants and other govt contributions, but the organization TYPICALLY has to apply. Due to the pandemic, food banks and shelters dont have to apply.

You cant be serious. Uvic law school is one of the most reputable law programs in Canada and very to get into. Also a global leader in the areas of environmental and indigenous law.

Uni/law school rankings dont matter much in Canada so it's a strange thing to bring up in a congratulatory post.

Congrats on the UVic admission. You can process admission with that while you remain hopeful on the other schools.
Full funding is always easier for visa applications though in addition, depending on your goal though Usask and Calgary are 1st tier Canadian universities compared to UVic however BC is a beautifulplace and Victoria is beautiful.
Good luck with which ever you choose.

All health authorities in Canada are regional because health care in Canada is provincial ie regional, so that goes without saying in this thread.

I know the visa requirements for Chinese health tourists because they are a large percentage of the clients I work with because I live in BC where some cities have a population that is close to 50% Chinese . If you think the visa requirements for Nigerians to Canada is the same as all other nationalities, or that visa officers treat everyone/case the same, you're completely mistaken.

I have told ppl how they can interpret this rule and get this letter ie from a doctor, clinic or hospital. The fact that you got the letter
in a certain manner doesnt mean more options arent available.
Just based on the bolded above, it looks like you have no idea what we are talking about. This letter has become a requirement during the visa applications for birth. How would you know that a Chinese tourist was not asked for this letter? Please let’s just focus on these issues. Since it does not appear that you have been following the conversations happening here.

Also note that you are missing a key word. The embassy specifically states regional health authority. Many people here even stayed they attached letter from hospital the only person that attached from a regional health authority which is myself got the visa so far.(although I am not sure that this is the reason)
Travel / Re: Giving Birth In Canada by shilling(f): 9:18am On Jan 12, 2020
I live in BC and can speak to that experience, since we have a very high number of Chinese birth tourists. Health authorities are a network of medical service providers. They are not an actual service provider. Every nurse, doctor, hospital etc is part of a health authority. This is usually grouped geographically. Example: https://www.islandhealth.ca/about-us

As such, when a person is asked to get a letter from a health authority for birth visa purposes, you can get a letter from a hospital in said health authority you hope to give birth in OR any medical service provider ie obgyn in the health authority you plan to give birth in. Both are part of said health authority, and it will literally state that on the letterhead what health authority the dr or hospital is part of.

Also note that I have never heard of this letter being a requirement for Chinese birth tourists. If you have other questions, pls PM me.

Oluwatise2016:

Sorry i dont mean to come in the middle of this argument but i think that bluefin is correct in her analysis as my cousin who is a doctor and facilitated me getting my letter explained to me that the regional health authority is the umbrella under which all the hospitals are formed. I think that is what she means when she says leader. If you have a solution please share since you are working for health authority.

Travel / Re: Giving Birth In Canada by shilling(f): 8:52am On Jan 12, 2020
Clearly, reading comprehension is an issue for you. The 2016 CBC article you quoted says:

"Sometimes when hospital beds are full, local mothers are diverted to other hospitals" The same article says a new mom was driven 30km away because the closest hospital was full.

Here's another article from 8 days ago: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.5413296

"There are times when ... the people living here don't get the service that they need," one nurse said.

When the unit was very busy, one nurse said services like prenatal tests to check the baby's health, labour inductions and other tests to check fetal and maternal risk factors would be delayed or cancelled."

Do you understand how far 30km is to get to a hospital? Esp when you're in labour and live in a developed country like Canada? This is not the norm here, and this is a reduction in quality of care. Obviously it's mostly Chinese tourists, however the government or average Canadian doesn't care what nationalities are responsible.

Re: health authorities, wikipedia says "Most health regions or health authorities are organized along geographic boundaries, however, some are organized along operational lines."

Every hospital in Canada falls under a health authority, because health authorities are essentially a grouping or network of medical care providers. I WOULD KNOW since I'm a Canadian citizen who works in health in a management capacity, and see letters from health authorities and doctors sent out all the time. Clearly this is the case as someone a few pages ago said they obtained one. The fact that it's harder for non-residents to get this letter doesn't mean it's impossible.

Learn to read. Then argue with yourself.

Bluefin:

You cannot entirely or outrightly say something is false except you have documentary evidence to back up your claim.
International patients DO NOT displace locals in hospitals but DO reduce quality of care for local patients due to increased demand.
SOURCE: Paragraph 2: https://bc.ctvnews.ca/b-c-moms-turned-away-as-birth-tourism-spikes-at-hospitals-1.3150142

Regional Health Authority:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_regions_of_Canada

Notice Alberta has only one- Ontario has 14. Go on each regional health authority's website and note how many hospitals are listed in the network. The embassy is asking for the regional health authority itself not the hospital to give you a letter.

This is false. A Canadian health authority isnt a health leader, but basically a geographical grouping of health providers.

Someone can request a letter from any medical facility in any health authority, or medical provider ie doctor that is part of said health authority. There are numerous across Canada, and these letters are not difficult to get for Canadians.

International patients DO NOT displace locals in hospitals but DO reduce quality of care for local patients due to increased demand.

On another note, even if birth visas are still being handed out, everyone should be aware that many clinics and hospitals are being mindful of backlash and no longer serving foreign patients.

Bluefin:
Guys, I had a conversation with my sister in-law who is a surgeon in canada and when I told her what was going on with people applying for visas. She said if anyone is issued a visa after the correspondence the decision is not based solely on the receipt or whatever you attached.

Apparently a Canadian Health authority means the leader of the network for the hospital you plan to use. She said there are like just 9 networks in Ontario and she doesn’t think there’s any network leader that has time for something like that. And that infact if you go to the network they will probably say they consider residents first because they would not like a non resident to displace a resident of health care. (In terms of bed space and doctors availability)

She also mentioned that she suspects that hospitals are doing the self pay thing on their own and it’s not really something being discussed as a network.

She said it’s like going to a local government or state ministry of health in Nigeria to give you a letter that you will use a particular general hospital and that arrangements have been made for how the network will receive their funds.

She concluded by saying that a person will be very lucky to get the visa after they make the payment and this will not be why they got their visa. They will get the visa based on the normal circumstances they would have reviewed a visa application in addition to the funds that the person had to make such hospital payments.

Also I just noticed someone else in the visit thread got rejected even after full payment. You can go through that thread I think it’s the last page.

You need provincial healthcare coverage to access a midwife, but you are entitled to midwifery services as a resident. You can also research various provinces to see what their healthcare coverage looks like, because each province can be quite different.

Remember that not everyone is eligible for a midwife depending on the nature of the pregnancy, and you may end up needing a doctor which is a huge hassle to sort out if you don't have coverage. So, I would look into getting coverage immediately you arrive.

I said something was fishy about the incident in the original post. I still stand by my comment that they were electrocuted by faulty wiring and the resort is trying to avoid liability by claiming drowning.

This match is the reason why CR7 is far better than Messi. In a difficult match like this going with long balls is the only options. This is amazing. I'm not on here much, but that is wonderful to read! Canada is a great place to live. Welcome!

Nogen:
Meeen! The cold got a better part of me yesterday. I came back exhausted!

My house hunt yesterday took an interesting turn. I saw an advert on kijiji about a fully furnished apartment for 750$ a month. In my mind, it's a great deal. I took a taxi to the apartment and I wasn't satisfied. Na wao for these Canadians , they said fully furnished but I met nearly empty apartment. 2 dirty sofas in the living room, cooker, fridge , Internet. That's all. Is this what I will pay 750$ monthly? No space for my kids to play except I take them to a nearby park.

I left the place to a second apartment , managed by the same agent. A 3 and half , better than the first one at 550 dollars a month. Has 2 dirty sofas again. I looked at the environment and said maybe we could manage this.

I then went to look for Service Canada office to obtain my Social Security number. The house agent took me to the mall instead. God works in mysterious ways. I used the opportunity to buy a few things we needed . Was about to call a taxi when my phone went flat. I saw a black guy sitting somewhere in the mall. I approached him and begged him to please call me a taxi that my phone was flat. He asked where I was going to. I told him. He brought out his phone and the next thing he said, " Come , let me drop you off to the place" I was scared. He sensed that and quickly introduced himself as a Malian and asked me where I came from. I said I'm Nigerian. He was perplexed! A Nigerian in Sherbrooke ? You guys go to Toronto and the Anglophone provinces not French!

Then I became relaxed and he took me there. We got talking and he got to know about my house search. He waited for me to get my Number and he then took me to his Caretaker after introducing me to his wife and 2 children. I became totally comfortable. He brought me back to the hotel , met my husband and children. An hour later, he came back and picked me up to see the apartment the Caretaker spoke about earlier.

I fell in love immediately! It has all that I asked for. Large space at the back and at the front, a garage, a storage facility outside, 2 large bedrooms, a modern cooker, big fridge, heater, hot water and a serene environment and I even have a small garden. 5 minutes walk to the Mall, 2 mins walk to an elementary school and a Daycare center. It also came cheaper at 525 dollar a month. The only thing is that we can't move in until the 3rd of January and I have to pay 35 dollars a month for electricity.

He agreed to be my guarantor and the wife is taking me to stores where I can buy stuffs for the apartment at a reasonable rate. He is coming this morning to take me to the Landlord and sign the contract. He is an Angel sent by God to help me at this very critical point in my life. God really works in mysterious ways.
