Agege Local Government area of Lagos State has banned the National Union of Road Transport Workers(NURTW) from operating in the community. This announcement was made in a signed letter by the council chairman, Alh. Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi, to notify the road workers union of the ban.

According to the council, the decision to stop alleged conversion of its markets and streets in the area to motor parks by the NURTW, accusing members of the body of perpetrating violence and causing gridlock and nuisance. The letter read:

It is the Resolution of the Executive Committee of Agege Local Government at its meeting held on the 12the of December, 2019 that operation of Parks by the National Union of Road Transport Workers within all markets and streets in Agege Local Government is prohibited due to the following reasons.

1. Operation of Parks within markets and designated streets is causing breach of peace and unhealthy rivalry within our Community.

2. Parks on Designated Streets in Agege Local Government are causing traffic gridlocks on the affected Streets thereby creating congestion on our roads.

3. The activities of National Union of Road Transport Workers within Agege Local Government markets and streets are always leading to trouble thereby encouraging the cults boys to go about with dangerous weapons.

4. Markets in Agege Local Government are not designated as parks, therefore all commercial vehicles should vacate all market premises within markets.

After a contentious session debate lasting all of Thursday, House judiciary committee chair Jerrold Nadler postponed voting on articles of impeachment against Donald Trump until 10am on Friday.

Mr Nadler's announcement came after 14 hours of contentious debate, during which Republicans on the committee decried the process by which the articles of impeachment for abuse of power and obstruction of congress were being considered.

If the full House of Representatives approves the impeachment resolution — which could happen as early as Tuesday — the House will then refer the articles of impeachment to the US senate, which will hold a trial with US chief justice John Roberts presiding in place of the vice-president.

The judiciary committee’s Republican members spent most of the day-long session raising many of now-familiar objections to the process by which the House’s Democratic majority has endeavoured to make Mr Trump the third American president to face an impeachment trial in the Senate.

North Dakota Republican Kelly Armstrong complained that "abuse of power" had long been a charge levelled at presidents by members of the opposite political party, but said such an accusation was not a substitute for specific high crimes and misdemeanours. He warned that impeaching Mr Trump on abuse of power charges would set a precedent that Democrats would come to regret. He said:

The problem we're running into, which is going to last far longer than today and far longer than this congress, is that this will become the new normal.

This will continue, this will move forward in the history of our country. The party who has not held the White House has accused the White House of abuse of power. It started 200 years ago, it will continue into the future, except now — congratulations — it will be impeachment every single time one party controls the House of Representatives and the other is in the White House.

Tennessee Democrat Steve Cohen countered that abuse of power is "the most impeachable crime [Trump] can be charged with" because it involves the subversion of America's elections. He said:

This is the most abusive act we can imagine, trying to influence our elections with foreign interference.

That takes power away from the American people, and it would end our country as we know it — a democracy, a shining city on a hill, and a beacon of hope to people around the world who followed our revolution by giving people the power and not kings.

U.S representative, Jamie Raskin, noted that Mr Trump had recently been forced to pay a $2m (£1.5m) fine for misusing his own charity foundation, and $25m (£18.6m) in restitution to students at his Trump University which the New York attorney general called a classic bait and switch operation. He said:

It's very clear from multiple witnesses exactly what President Trump wanted to get from President Zelensky – he wanted a statement on television that Ukraine ... was going to investigate Vice President Biden, and a statement contradicting the 2016 understanding by our intelligence committee and Special Counsel Mueller that there'd been a sweeping and systematic campaign by Russia to interfere ... and say that it was Ukraine that interfered.

That's what he wanted ... he didn't care about corruption!

This is the guy they want us to believe was shaking down the president of Ukraine because he had some secret anti-corruption agenda that actually wasn't related to the Bidens, that wasn't related to rehabilitating the totally discredited Russian conspiracy theory that it was Ukraine not Russia that intervened in our campaign in 2016? Come on, get real! Be serious!

We know they don't accept the facts, we know they don't accept the evidence. They don't like the fact that the depositions took place in the basement? Where should they have been? Would they accept the facts if we'd found some other room?

Enough of these phoney process objections — let's get back to the facts of what happened: The President of the United States shook down a foreign power to come and get involved in our election. That's wrong.

Nigerian Senate on Thursday December 12 said it can not reveal the outcome of its investigation against Adamawa lawmaker, Elisha Abbo, to the public. Recall that Senator Abbo was caught on camera assaulting a woman in a intimacy gadget shop in Abuja.

According to section 88 of the Constitution, it empowers the National Assembly to investigate allegations of misconduct against members but gives no restriction on public knowledge. Although such investigations cannot be aimed to punish, the section states that it shall only be either to “make laws with respect to any matter within its legislative competence and correct any defects in existing laws” or “expose corruption, inefficiency or waste in the execution or administration of laws within its legislative competence”.

The Senate spokesperson, Godiya Akwashiki, said this while speaking with journalists after plenary on Thursday, December 12th:

I know vividly when that issue was brought to the plenary under matters of urgent importance, a senator raised an observation saying this issue is in a court of law. It’s not an issue we should disturb ourselves over.

Please, I want to speak like a lawmaker. Once an issue is in a court of law, there is a limit for us to discuss it in the plenary.

On Tuesday December 10, the Pentagon announced it was temporarily suspending operational training for Saudi military students in the United States due to a shooting rampage last week by a Saudi air force officer.

A 21-year-old lieutenant in the Saudi Royal Air Force, Mohammed Alshamrani, opened fire in a classroom at Pensacola Naval Air Station in Florida on Friday, killing three American sailors and wounding eight other people before being shot dead by police.

Alshamrani, who was armed with a lawfully purchased Glock 9mm handgun posted a manifesto on Twitter before the shooting denouncing America as "a nation of evil."

According to the senior Defense Department officials, the Saudi Arabian military students in the United States will continue classroom instruction but operational training is halted pending a security review.

Deputy Secretary of Defense, David Norquist, ordered a review to be completed within 10 days of policies for screening foreign students. The move applies to all Saudi military students currently undergoing training in the United States. The ones who are pilots will be grounded.

The shooting struck a nerve in the United States with its echoes of the September 11, 2001 attacks, in which Saudi citizens accounted for 15 of the 19 hijackers that flew airliners into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

A final year Law student of Rivers State University, Matilda Itonyo Mark, was stabbed to death in her apartment in the early hours of Tuesday December 10.

She was found laying in the pool of her blood in her apartment close to Eagle Island, Port-harcourt after being raped and stabbed afterwards.

The 24-year-old's corpse was taken to a morgue in an ambulance accompanied by security personnel. The Rivers state Police Command and the Management of the Rivers State University are yet to comment on the incident. Friends of the deceased have already taken to social media to pen down tributes to her.

One of the 80 Nigerians arrested late August by the United States authorities, Ifeanyi Agwuegbo has been granted bail. The suspect, in a vast business email fraud busted by the FBI, appeared in a Texas court on August 27.

The American magistrate, Peter Bray, who heard his preliminary bail application at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, asked the suspect to be released on a bond of $75,000 (N27.2 million).

The suspect was also asked to provide at least $5,000 deposit and one surety whose signature must be obtained before the defendant could be released.

Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, admits there's a 'cabal' in the sport sector and tells successor not to allow them intimidate him. He spoke on how he rendered the alleged cabal in the sports sector useless and also advising his successor Sunday Dare, not to allow them intimidate him in a new interview.

Dalung added that Dare will have a smooth administration because he (Dalung) won the fight against the cabal in the Nigeria Football Federation and National Sports Commission. He told BSNSports:

When I came in as a new minster, I said I am an undertaker and that I will step on toes and I did exactly that because I don’t want the next minister to be intimidated by cabals.
I sacrificed myself so that nobody can intimidate the next minister because I have dealt with the untouchables. Over the weekend, a couple whose wedding IV was the trending topic because it had a bold ‘no reception’ written on the IV, actually had a wedding reception courtesy of family and friends.

The groom, Adewale Yusuf, wrote on his twitter account:

The Anambra State Police Command has launched a manhunt for an unnamed kidnapper of 18-month-old Chibuike Ezechukwu. The boy was last seen at a Catholic church in Onitsha last Sunday.


According to reports, The househelp gave the child to an unknown lady who sat beside her during offering and also received N100 for offering from the lady. On her return, the lady had disappeared with the boy. 


The police public relations officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, said in a statement issued in Awka yesterday that all efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect and recover the child. He said:

"On the 9/6/2019 at about 2:30pm, One Mr Olisachukwu Ezechukwu 'm' of NO.1 Orakwe Close,Awada reported at Awada Police Station that on the same date at about 1:40pm, his househelp one Ukwuoma Ruth 'f' aged 16years went to Church at Awada with his son one Master Chibuike Ezechukwu aged One year and six months. Consequently, the Complainant alleged that during offering inside the Church the househelp handed over his son to a yet to be identified lady who Sat beside her and equally gave her the sum of N100 Naira for offering.

However, by the time she (the househelp) came back from the altar to seat she discovered that the lady had disappeared with the child and was nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Police detectives have visited the scene and efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect and recover the child.

The Public are strongly advised to be wary of this new pattern of child stealing and report suspicious persons to the nearest Police Station for prompt action.Religious leaders are equally enjoined to take adequate security measures at their Places of worships in order to avert this ugly trend."

Son of the late Chief MKO Abiola and late Alhaja Kudirat Abiola’s, Abdul Mumuni Abiola, speaks out on the lack of progress in the country since 199. He also lamented that the education and health sectors has collapsed. He said June 12 should be a day of national sober reflection for Nigerians as the “people are getting poorer and the poverty rate is increasing”.

Abdul, who was at the National Centre for Women Development in Abuja on Monday to receive an award on behalf of his late mother, was inducted into the Nigerian Women Hall of Fame alongside 21 other. He said: 

“The recognition of June 12 as Democracy Day will get people thinking. I don’t think it should be a day of celebration. It should be a day of reflection of where we are as a country and where we are going. It is important that we should know that for the decisions we make today, there are consequences.

This is because those who made the decisions to truncate the Nigerian people’s yearning for democracy in 1993 would now see that sometimes when you make certain decisions, you must see the consequences.

The country is worse off than it was in 1993. My father was trying to address certain issues like poverty eradication and free education. But what is going on in the country now? The education system is dilapidated. The health care system is nothing. People are getting poorer and the rich are getting richer. The poverty rate is increasing. I think the idea is that June 12 should be a day of reflection and I believe we can get out of this situation.”

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday June 10, honoured the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, MKO Abiola, by signing into law the Public Holiday (Amendment) Bill, making June 12 a public holiday in the country. It also becomes the official Democracy Day, replacing May 29.

David Dao , a passenger of United Airlines Flight3411, who was dragged off & screaming from his seat on April 9, 2017, has finally broken his silence by coming out to say that the incident caused him to shed a lot of tears.


Dao’s case captured worldwide attention in 2017 when he was forcibly removed from an overbooked flight at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, resulting in a concussion, a broken nose and two missing teeth, according to ABC News. Dao said he decided to speak out publicly as a way to thank those who stood behind him.


Dao, who has not spoken publicly about the incident since it happened, spoke about the incident on the two year anniversary of the ordeal on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” stating that when he first saw the video footage, he just cried.


The doctor said he boarded the plane on April 9, 2017, preparing to head home to Kentucky, where he was planning to open a free clinic for U.S. veterans. The flight was overbooked and when he refused to give up his seat, he was dragged off the plane.


Dao told ABC News that he never expected the encounter to get physical but, once it did, everything escalated fast. He said he has forgiven the airline as well as the security agents who dragged him down the aisle and back into the airport terminal. He said:

I'm not angry with them. They have a job to do. They had to do it. If they don’t do it, they must lose their job. So, I’m not angry with them or anything like this.

Tyler Bridges, Fellow passenger, told The Washington Post in 2017 that travelers were informed they would be given vouchers to rebook, but when no one agreed, the airline started selecting people and asking them to leave. He said:

]A young couple was told to leave first. They begrudgingly got up and left. Then an older man who refused.

He said he wasn’t getting off the flight and he’s a doctor and has to see patients the next morning.

The man became angry as the manager persisted, eventually yelling. He said more or less that he was being selected because he’s Chinese.

A police officer boarded. Then a second and a third. Bridges then began recording, as did another passenger.


Dao told ABC News on Tuesday that he woke up in a hospital and for a while did not know his story had gone viral.

Then, amid widespread outcry, slipping stock prices and a settlement with the airline, he said the media attention became too much for him to handle. “Get to the point, I have to hide. I stay for months, months in house.”

Last Friday, a Toyota Avensis car lost control due to a tyre burst, somersaulted and crushed four students of the Government Technical College and one other person to death in Abeokuta, Ogun State.


An elder sister, Temitope Hammed, to one of the victims, Misturat Titilope Hammed, 20-years-old, blamed Yahoo boys for the accident.


The Spokesperson, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) IN Ogun State, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident in Abeokuta on Saturday. He said the car lost control due to tyre burst, somersaulted and hit the students where they were seated in front of a house. He said:

"The vehicle lost control due to tyre burst and speeding , sumarsaulted and went to meet people sitting down outside a house instantly killing five of them and injuring two others.

The accident occurred around 10:40pm. Four female college students and a little girl died on the spot. We Learnt they were students of Government Technical College, Abeokuta.

They came for a Muslim programme called Tarjuud which was to start by 12am but were still outside around 10:30 pm, waiting for 12am to enter a mosque where the programme will take place before the incident happened.

Alcoholic drinks were found in the car and unfortunately the driver of the car could not be located."


Temitope shared her grief in a post via Facebook. She claimed that no blood was found on the scene because the girls were used for ritual by Yahoo boys. She wrote:

"So hard to say Rip to u girls, I never knew d day u attend my sis wedding will b d last day we would see, I really love you and miss u (7 heart at a time) you only went to mosque to serve d almighty Allah for tahjud u were performing ablution to pray ,wen dis avensis car kill 7peopls at a time,one still in coma and notin happen to dis yahoo guys at olorunsogo central mosque Abeokuta.

i never believed nt until wen I got to ur school and see thousand of people, still don’t believe wen Dey took us to were d accident happen nt until wen I got to Fmc idi aba abeokuta were I saw u girls dead, some in pieces. We called dis iku sheidih in Islam, may Allah grant u aljana fridauos and console we families dat dis happen to. Bt am sure insha Allah if those yahoo boys use u all for sacrifice, Dey will die in jail bcoz no single drop of blood where d accident happen. Bt Allah knows all. Rest in peace to u all."

An Uber driver’s car was stolen by 2 passengers he picked up at Afrika Shrine. They attacked him with wooden ‘beretta pistols’.



After the robbery, the Uber driver, Ogadinma Ikeagu, came across an anti-crime patrol team from Maroko Police Station led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Isah Abdulmajid. Ikeagu narrated how his Toyota Corolla saloon car, with number plates KJA 69 FE, had just been snatched by two passengers he picked at the Afrika Shrine.



The DPO took Ikeagu in his patrol vehicle and drove in the same direction taken by the thieves, while escaping with the car. The Police team caught the car within Victoria Island and arrested one of the robbers while the other one escaped. The robber was arrested and two wooden berretta pistol look-alikes recovered from him.



According to Ikeagu, the robbers boarded his car on January 23, at about 11p.m. at Afrika Shrine and said to be heading to Victoria Island and halfway into the journey, they attacked him and stole his car at gunpoint and fled.



Confirming the arrest, Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State, CSP Chike Oti, said:

"Although one of the suspects escaped, the team arrested his crime partner, Ogundoju Olalekan.

On interrogation, he confessed to have committed the crime."
