Car Talk / Re: An Ideal Car For A N80k Monthly Salary Earner. Please advice. by straighthome: 6:30pm On Sep 07, 2012
The ABC of money economics I know does not support borrowing for consumption. Rather borrowing or gearing is meant for investment taking into consideration risk and returns. On another note I have enjoyed thoroughly the back and forth banter of low end cars and their capabilities. Thumbs up NL.
Career / Re: How Your Temperament Affects Your Career Choice And General Performance. by straighthome: 5:54pm On Sep 04, 2012
if i may add and trying to come in line with the topic, which i may dare say is psychometry, there are tests that some of us in hr do use which though close to the 'profiling' herewith enunciated almost do match....these fall into the driver, analyst, persuader and mixer. some deatiled testing and selection processes have pre determined temperaments which if you fall outside of, after testing, you may not be called back.

Travel / Re: Boarding A Plane For The First Time (Your Experience) by straighthome: 11:16am On Jul 26, 2012
my first experience was from ph to lagos. the loud noise from the engine on full trottle durring take off scared me. i was 16 going to lagos on first semester break. but there is a flight i wont forget. many pasengers were stranded at the abuja airport and as i nosed around i noticed the then okada air kiosk was having some activity. i joined in as they sold only 6 tickets. the flight was anounced and i ended up on a special plane which i believe the igbinedion clan use exclusively.....only about 10 pacs with giant seats arranged like a mini living room. one of them came in as the last persenger. it must have been the first time for a lady sitting by me cos when the plane was having some turbulence mid air she reached accross her hand rest to mine and squeezed the daylights out of my hands....not wanting to embarass her i allowed her but had the pain in my hand running for 2 days afterwards.

@widow...i feel you on the ray charles song...couldnt help but love it as my father hummed along in those days. For me there is not one song that says it all...different times and seasons bring different yearnings and the list is here.

fallen from pretty woman
acapella version of sound of silence
overjoyed and lately by stevei wonder
long winding road by paul McCartney
always by midnight star
without you (original version) by ...oops slipped off my brain now
kiss me by sixpence none the richer
there she goes by cranberries
whats the name of that song by ivanesence
american pie original version by bill holly
and quite a few more

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: How Did You Get Your Present Job? by straighthome: 6:43pm On Jul 10, 2012
one night 12 years ago i packed my bags left lagos and came to abuja....trying to network on my new turf, i traced a child hood neighbour who was a very very i mean very very top shot....after waiting in the waiting room for 7 hours we were ushered into his office in groups of 5 as he relieved the days he used to teach me arithmetic an old friend of his walked into his office and as their converstaion went on they mentioned the name of my current ceo. i had attended an interview at his firm but was not taken. when the visitor left i told him that the name they mentioned is the ceo of a company at which i had attended an interview months back. 5 days later i called his office and his secretary asked that i should pay the firm a visit. i got there and started work the next day. ive been there now for 11 years. it had to be a divine arrangemnt if you ask me.

@yemmmight.. i had read some earlier posts where some contributors had asked for copy of HR policy. I am in the process of developing one at the organisation I work at and im interested in seeing what others are doing to improve on what we are doing. Im developing our policy on the following lines ....testing and selection, performance management, compensation and reward, training and development, career management all in allignment with the extant labour laws. I believe if i see othe views i can improve on what ive got.

Pets / Re: Is Dog Breeding Business Lucrative In Nigeria by straighthome: 9:08am On Jun 12, 2012
i have dabbled into breeding and selling....one of the many things i fall back on if my economy is threatened. here are some tips. you need to start with quality stalk like in a stud and if possible you add a bitch. preferably the german shepherd which is popular around these parts. you also need to know your way around the vets and trainers if you dont know how to train the dogs on the basics eg obedience training and poo manners. you will also need to have outlets for your sales. the vets could come in handy on this one but they may try to scam you. a good place where you can get stalk is jos but i dont know if that info is still valid with all the unrest going on there. you will need the space for your kennel making allowance for expansion...finally if you are not into dogs dont bother cos there is a lot of poo to clear and manners to correct....you will certainly be pissed off and hitch a hike if you are not into dogs
Music/Radio / Re: Which Musical Instrument(s) Are You Playing Or Would Love To Play? by straighthome: 6:20am On Jun 02, 2012
@bknight...depends on where you are....ive been out of lagos for too long to know where and what again...if you are in abuja you can try the music store at ceddi plaza or call a saxophonist by name dare 08052730797. it might be helpful for you know that there are the soprano, alto, tenor and baritone sax.....the sounds you may be able to decipher thus....kenny g - soprano sax, grover washinghton - alto sax, fela - tenor sax and the baritone sax is more common within an ensemble. goodluck.
Music/Radio / Re: Which Musical Instrument(s) Are You Playing Or Would Love To Play? by straighthome: 12:09am On Jun 02, 2012
i had spent a part of my evening today laying back on the sofa after work reminecing on old dreams and desires....one i could not ignore was my love for music and musical instruments. i have an acoustic guitar and keyboard at home but havent strummed lately. years ago when i worked two shifts one as a musician and the other as a busy business exec i switched the music side off and now ive become cold.... thinking shares, stocks and digging the back stabbing cut throat competition. its so cold i can no longer strum those chords on the guitar and words stream and tears roll down my cheeck lasing the most delicate of chords. ive steadied and become so cold i just stare at the keyboard and wont touch it so my emotion and drive for the business kill does not waiver....well i just poured out my heart...would like to see how i can bring it back...would be glad to learn finger picking technique and bossa with any interested abuja resident. strictly acoustic...bossa. finger picking and folk....
