moderatorr: It will be free and Open Source. Just so you know, you cannot predict an applications ability to sell without first knowing what it can do. The calculator yarn is just a basic example. You can do lot more with an HTML 5 OS. |

Features 1. Single User Just like the mobile devices, it will allow just one user. 2. Multitasking Support Yep. Applications will run separate processes. Applications can also create "threads". Apps are sandboxed, so they don't conflict with other apps. 3. Framework For Developers A framework will be provided for developers. Apps will be developed with Javascript, XHTML/HTML 4/5, CSS and PHP. Although, application interfaces will need to follow certain standards to prevent them from looking like websites. Applications built with the framework will have cross-browser support across all supported browsers. 4. Native Applications The OS will come with native applications like - File Explore - Task Manager - Media Player - Registry/Configuration manager - Utility Applications - etc 5. Internationalization The OS will be in multiple languages. Even apps can use this feature which will be provided for in the framework. 6. Browser Support erm, not sure if this is a feature. The first release will be available only on Google Chrome. Support for other browser will follow when the first release is considered stable. Ok na, make i prepare to start. |
Programming / Sage OS (HTML5) : The Development (with download link) by worldbest(m): 8:03am On Oct 14, 2011 |
Hello. For sometime now, i have been thinking of developing an HTML 5 OS that runs on a browser. Well, i call it an OS because it would function just like the normal OS except that it would still depend on a browser. The idea was born out of my need to do basic tasks on my browser without the need to minimize and launch a program. For example, i would like to use a calculator right away to calculate my Google Adsense earnings , It would be nice if i can just go to my "OS" launch my calculator app. Also, i could just play my MP3s right from my "OS". Although, this idea is no longer unique to me. It used to be till Carbyn (www.carbyn.com) was introduced. But still, i believe i can do better. This OS will allow developers to also create application with a framework provided by the "OS". At the moment, i am writing up features i would like to see in the first release. I decided to open a thread here so that i can carry you guys along. Building stuffs in isolation/secret has not really worked for me. Later today, i'll drop a small feature list. Cheers! |

guru01: Look, I am not stopping you or discouraging anyone. I am just speaking from experience. If there are serious individuals who think they can commit themselves to such projects, then I will gladly do stuffs with them. Even if I have had failures with online projects doesn't mean I won't attempt it again. So if you guys want to still do this. I dey ready. |
Webmasters / Re: Lets Start An Open Source Project by worldbest(m): 12:02am On Sep 05, 2011 |
i_want_to: True talk. But we just won't achieve anything online. We may start with so much passion, later it will certainly disappear as far as the group works online. By the time hunger flog guys, them go bone project go open blog stamp adsense lol. If we most forge a group, it has to be a physical one, I mean one that every member gets to meet maybe twice a week some where, code right there, integrate already written codes and plan for the next meeting. It won't work if we are thinking online. |

Nigerians can't develop applications via online groups. There are so many factors that make it practically impossible. |

Programming / Re: I Need Someone To Teach Me Stochastic Linear Programing by worldbest(m): 11:37pm On Jul 15, 2011 |
I utilized Stochastic Linear programming when i was recreating google's pageRank for a search engine i was working on in 2008. Too bad i cant remember any thing about it now. A mere google search for ' Stochastic Linear programming' returns alotta results. If i can remember well, it involves Propability and Matrix. All you just have to do is learn the theory and code with your favorite language. Powerful algorithm, |
Webmasters / Nigeria's Tech Industry: Dead Without Vc Firms/angel Investors by worldbest(m): 6:18am On Jul 14, 2011 |
Abeg guys! Do we have VC firms or even Angel investors willing to put some cash in a promising startup. Is it that startups that come out of Nigeria's tech space are all bootstrapped? I think the lack of funding is a major reason why our startups die soon after launch. Take for instance, i have a product i am developing and would really like it to be launched here in Nigeria. But its probably nearly impossible to get funding. I then decide to seek for funding outside Nigeria. Now if i get this funding, that would mean i would have to leave Nigeria to register the company in the country where i got my funds. After sometime, my product/app gets international recognition and the country where my investors are based gets the credit while Nigeria where i built the product/app gets the founders Nationality credit. Our tech industry will never grow like this. We need to have our startups funded. |

Webmasters / Re: What I Hate About Nigerian Web Developers by worldbest(m): 1:25pm On Jul 12, 2011 |
Well, i wont call myself a webmaster(dont know what it truely means sef), but a web developer who only writes codes hosted on the greatest server in the world - my local machine. Therefore, i cannot talk about client - web developer relationships. But i think majority of Nigerian 'webmaster' are plain lazy, they lack ideas, they feel like they know all and dont even care to checkout other sites for the inspiration to do something new. Since this majority price themselves low, well you get a less lucrative industry. It looks like 15 - 20k is the most popular price range for a site in Naija. If not, how come a woman who had been given directives by her bank to find a developer who would build a site for them wants to pay me below 20k? So you see, lazy/cheap 'scrapsite' makers have made the industry unattractive. I think i'll just stick to my application development jare because i want to deal with the oga of this site one day lol . |
