Though this thread is opened a little late but never mind, not much has been missed cos the show started formally on Monday 6th August 2012.

Here are the contestants in the project fame academy.

Adetoun Adekoya

The ever-smiley Adetoun is a bubbly 26 year-old woman whose confidence exudes in leaps and bounds. She is a studio-rat as far as she’s concerned, and has done a lot of back-up work for established artistes.

Adetoun is a graduate of Mass-Communication from Olabisi Onabanjo University. She caters for a living and has a very outgoing and friendly personality and believes in people. She is highly competitive in nature and is aiming for the Top

Ayobami Ayoola Ayolola

Ayobami Ayoola Ayolola is the 25 year old personal assistant to a renowned saxophonist. Apart from his involvement in this saxophonist’s band, Ayo’s father is also a pastor and was a choir director for many years.

In Ayo’s own words, ‘my father discovered the music in me’ – and for this he is grateful to his dad whom he speaks of with pride. Ayo is also an actor and has had a few stints on television. He says he cannot run away from acting but music is his first love and seeing as this is his fifth stab at Project Fame West Africa, he intends to milk the opportunity for all it is worth.

Brenda Adigwe

Brenda Adigwe is a 16 year old go-getter. She is a third-year mass communication undergraduate of the Littoral University, Porto-Novo, Benin Republic. Brenda tends to come across as older than her age and even though the competition is open to only people eighteen years and above, she returned for another season of auditions to give it another shot and convinced the academy to let her in.

Brenda is very close to her mother and hopes to make her proud by going far in the competition and possibly emerge as the winner.

Chinyere Akwueh

She’s 23 years old, studies Linguistics and African Languages at University of Benin, Edo State – Nigeria, and is in love with a young man who she calls her best friend. He’s a base guitarist and her number one fan apart from her family.

Chinyere is the last-born child and she receives a lot of support from her older siblings who are all married. She tends to be a bit shy and taciturn but she does express herself well enough and her biggest asset is her crystal-clear voice.

Christian Adeyefa

the dark-skinned and very expressive Christian is of mixed Nigerian heritage. His father is Yoruba and his mother is from Benue state. Christian has lived in Markudi for most of his life and is a fourth year Computer-Science student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Markudi, in Benue state, Nigeria.

Even though he has lived in the middle belt for most of his life, Christian emphasises that he is a Yoruba boy through and through and nothing can change that. Christian loves television, movies, and travelling. A very jovial sort, Christian does not fail to point out that he is only jovial and happy-go-lucky when he wants to be. He takes his music seriously and intends to win this competition, bringing the first prize back to Benue like Monica Ogah did in Season four.

Didi Kosu

Dimipre Kosu likes to be known as ‘Diddy’. He is 20 years old and an Engineering fourth-year undergrad at Niger Delta University. Diddy Kosu is playful and has his own style which he believes tends to stand him out from the crowd. He loves rock jazz and soul music and really loves to dance.

At the slightest opportunity, Didi is likely to break into ‘Azonto’ – the now famous dance of Ghanaian origin which the young man seems to have mastered and given his own unique twist.

Edward Wright

Edward is a 26 year-old and has being doing music and song-writing for a living since his college days. He has a little daughter and a girlfriend both of whom he loves very much. He says he’s a good guy but doesn’t smile much because his eyes have seen ‘too many things’ during the savage war years that besieged Sierra-Leone.

Edward says he isn’t religious but is quite spiritual and is very connected to God. He certainly doesn’t see himself as a ladies’ man but is not averse to making new friends along the way, if they can accept him for who he is.

Grace Mark

Grace Mark is a smallish twenty-four year old. Pretty-faced and with a chirpy speaking voice, she comes alive when she’s singing. Grace is from a large family – she has nine siblings and apparently, almost everyone in her home has a flair for music.

She has come a long way since last year, when she reached the semi-final stage of the auditions, so she is determined to make this opportunity in the Project Fame Academy count.

Joshua Owusu Effriyie

Joshua Owusu Effriyie is 20 years old, dark skinned, quite charming, and has a personality that draws you in. The young Ghanaian singer says he loves to eat, and therefore, loves to cook.

He spends a lot of time in the kitchen but when he isn’t cooking up a delicious dish, he is really into video games and his music. Joshua plays the saxophone, the guitar and the keyboard and is a staunch Arsenal Football Club fan.

Kemi Ajayi

Kemi is a 20 year-old ND-1 student of Federal Polytechnic, Offa – Kwara State. She grew up with her mother who is a fashion designer. Kemi is also a talented seamstress but unlike her mother, is yet to master the art of cutting design-patterns.

Kemi loves singing and wants to take it to the highest height. She believes she picked up the talent from her father who used to sing and play several instruments during his lifetime. She knows she has a lot to learn and wants to lap up as much as possible from all the faculty memebers.

Tega Apochi

Tega Apochi is a 22 year-old Delta State babe who has a non-identical twin brother Tejiri. Tega loves singing but if she wasn’t following the path of music, she would like to try her hands at fish-farming. She has her own style fashion-wise and readily admits to liking attention.

She has a distinct voice which she hopes can be trained to be outstanding. She is looking forward to the Academy as a growth experience in music, style and performance too.

Academy Day 2: Faculty Meets Contestants

Straight to serious business, the faculty-Mummy J, Ige, Kaffy and Uncle Ben made their way into the Academy for a formal introduction.

Mummy J introduced each faculty member and in what areas they will be working to improve and polish the contestants. She was curious about why they chose Project Fame. While most of them ranted about coming to learn, and would be happy even if they don't eventually win (yeah right); Oyinkansade confessed emphatically that he is here to win. Guess time will tell.

Mummy J's session, saw her asking Grace the Academy captain for the week to take her on a familiarization tour of the Academy. They started off from the guys room, where Mummy J encouraged them to clean their carpet daily so that dust does gather and affect their voices and also to lay their beds in the morning before they are set to go to class. On getting to the girls' room, she had issues with luggage everywhere and also clothes hanging everywhere (guess that's girly). She scolded some of the girls for bad bed-making habits and immediately made sure they fixed their rooms.

Grace continued to share her experience in the Academy so far and she confessed it's not been easy at all. Guess it would be too early to say that.

Later in the day, the usual stampede that comes with contestants not been prepared for Uncle Ben's very first class happened again when he came to class. Sure the contestants were not so prepared for him or may be they have not realised Uncle Ben's second name is 'Nature Pain'. Ayo called his experience in Uncle Ben's class as 'mind-blowing'. Words no one else would dare say to you, Uncle Ben will say such. Although he didn't like being called a bald-head in public.

Uncle Ben quized them about the songs they' ll be performing this weekend. He seemed to want to be sure they knew what they were getting into with their song choices and advised on popular songs that can be mastered but which show up their voices well. He concluded with congratulations on making it this far. After the class, he asked Grace to handed out a cup of ice cream to each contestant.

Ayo had his misgivings about this. He felt taking ice-cream was a trap. Well, what do you think?

'Everything sweet has its own repercussions, enjoy the ice cream, it's really nice for the system, but prepare to loose weight and make sure your voices are intact. If they are not, I will have you all sound like stuffed pigs. Is that understood? Enjoy yourselves'. Were his last words.

Academy Day 3: Brenda Gets Motherly Counsel From Mummy J.

Brenda got motherly counsel from Mummy J, Sonia fell into Uncle Ben's 'late-comer's' net. Both of them sure won't forget today in a hurry.

Mummy J gave clear motherly rules to under-aged Brenda, telling her the issues considered before allowing her to get into the Academy in the first place. She told her to be covered at all times. No low-necks and definitely no skimpy dresses and she accepted without reservations.

It was Ige's first voice training class and trust, she has got a lot of technical words to play around with in her music class. she started out with asking the contestants what music is all about, and they started doling out all manner of definitions. She came to the rescue and took them through the basics of singing. She said her classes would entail.

1. Unlearn bad singing habits,

2. Learn and practice proper singing habits,

3. Expand your mind as regards to voice,

4. How to sing together and blend,

She then went further to liken singing to exaggerated speech in melody and in-beats. She gave some other interesting definitions, and went into the business of 'breath-control'. She identified three different way of breathing: clavicular, thoracic, and diaphramatic. You wanna know what those are? Ehn...try google.

Then they went through the practicals of breath exercise and then proper song rehearsals, till the end of her class and took her leave for the day.

Next was Uncle Ben's class. His words at times could bring hot tears to your face. He lashed out at the contestants especially those who got in late to the class. Sonia had it rough.
She was sent out of the class, Even after apologising, Uncle Ben in his usual elements did not allow her in even after explaining she had to visit the rest room.

They rehearsed their song with him and he pointed out their mistakes and also taught them proper microphone technique.

Sonia felt very bad and even after Uncle Ben had left She asked why after taking permission from Grace, she failed to relay this to Uncle Ben. On asking Grace why she did so, Grace hushed her up which resulted in a loud argument between both of them.

Will Uncle Ben allow Sonia in his next class? How will Brenda abide by the rules?

All fingers remain crossed...

Academy Day 4: Oyinkansade in Uncle Ben's Net!

The contestants went through quite a drilling early this morning. Starting with mental strength, then onto multiple press-ups, hops and jogging round the Academy. Kaffy, the fitness coach cum dance instructor is determined to get them sweating real hard.

Thank God for Mummy J’s class which was after Breakfast. Evidently, Christian thoroughly enjoyed it and went on and on describing breakfast as his best meal. Edward also liked the meal so much he used his african fork. Mummy J could not hide her disappointment at him and Christian who were caught doing this with both hands to stop this habit.

Next mummy J had them play out a game where they act out an expression that reflects their names. Ayo was the most expressive and correctly interpreted his name and so he won the game. Marvelous did well too and was commended.

Uncle Ben’s class, started on a humorous note with the removal of wigs but turned out to be a tense one, particularly for Oyinkansade who was not spared at all. Diction was the cause, it landed him an immediately sending out of the class. Later called back only to be handed over to the others who were encouraged to help him out with his diction.

Ige’s class was enjoyably tough, and she seems to be liked a lot by the contestants. They rehearsed and rehearsed their songs.

Marvellous was later seen helping Oyinkansade out with his diction.

Will he improve? Guess time will tell...

My post on the Project Fame Season Four Thread last year. I still feel the same way. . . .

semid4lyfe @ 2:11pm On Oct 24, 2011:

All these singing competitions Project Fame WA, Nigerian Idols, West African Idols etc are a waste of time IMO.

It's better for a "talented" aspiring musician to hustle, gather money, hit the studio and record one or two dance/party tracks, get radio airplay and he or she will blow faster than all these singing competitions will do for him/her. Also, it doesn't help that the scope of the show is limited.

Apart from the prize money, the recording contract & the car, there's nothing in Project Fame. It is just a platform to fame, become a celebrity and get invites to events IMO.

How many winners of these competitions have gone on to have successful music careers? Na only Omawunmi be like sey she try. . .Timi, Mike, Chidinma, Nyanya were failures and their songs/albums were flops.

Dbanj, Tuface, P-Square, Asa, Olamide, Whizkid, M.I, Ice-Prince, Samklef, Timaya etc never went through any singing competition and they're the biggest things in the music industry today. . . .no surprise these same artists get invited to perform and judge the contestants during the show

@ toba, you are right about Marvellous being this year's most likely winner. Vocally, he is light years ahead most of the other contestants. I see Adetoun coming a likely 2nd. She has this unique 'jazzy' voice smiley

@Semidylyfe, I will not even comment on your myopic view. So Chidinma, Inyanya (current rave-of-the-moment) and Timi are failures eh
Obviously your sense of judgement is intellectually challenged!!

Dear moderators, why is this not on frontpage yet?? If na 'Actress A or Actor B eating corn' , una go don put am for front page sharp sharp sad sad

That Tega girl leg don carry her go almost all the singing reality shows. She started from Nigerian Idols then to Star Quest and finally project fame. Ayo was also in Nigerian Idols but didn't go far. Is it that we don't have more people with talent or what? Why do we keep recycling the same people.
