You can't claim victory in a battle on immaterial wordplay. If I'm generous enough to give you +1 point on Mikwon wordplay and then I give you -1 point on the 'males' wordplay, how you want take claim victory with zero points?

The parentheses thing is well established. I have thrown away dozens of puns cos they are not easily recognisable and would need parentheses. Like DBR said, if the punch needs a parenthesis, bin it.
