midnighter: Ive already explained what I meant by "crafty".
Ive already explained why what you said is racist.
Ive already stated that I dont need you to confirm whether we look better with weaves or not.
We have all noticed people with natural hair who dont look good, but we wouldnt use them to suggest that nobody with natural hair looks good.
Bleaching knots, gluing lace are not what we're talking about here. We're talking about you and your *inverse featurism* which is actually a tool of oppression in itself. You are oppressing yourself in oppressing others.
You were talking about "rounder flatter nose" and Im telling you that Chinese people have that too, with straight hair. You now want to deflect towards "full-featured" which is not going to work. Answer the question: Do all Chinese people look ugly?
Dont worry; please go ahead and try telling somebody in the UK that their big black lips dont suit their English name. I for one will be looking forward to reading your story on front page.
I just typed 3 lines of insults to you before realising that I am lacking an important piece of information that will clear everything. Here is my question:
Have you ever travelled to Nigeria before? And I've already explained that what I said will be racist if I said they look better in weaves. Just admit you want me to say that so you can feel better? No silly, I said blk ppl look better with naturally. Ofcourse ugly naturals will exist, but they'd look even uglier with weave. Deal with it. Yes! Chinese ppl look ugly, are you satisfied?? An english name is an appropriation, is that a lie? Yes I have been to Nigeria, and? |

CeterisXVII: I guess Chris Rock went into each of the 774 local government areas in Nigeria to interview those women, and check how much each of them spent on their hairdo annually. Hehehe....
No ma'am. The part in bold type refers. Length of African hair depends on genetics. Only genetics? This seems like a cop out. |

eyinjuege: You are the clueless one here. Caucasians are the queens of hair extensions. From a very young age for that matter, while their African counterparts are still thinking of low cut. Melanasians migrated from Africa, in case you're not aware. Fact. They are also blessed with the typical features of Africans. The devil is scared of this lie. By that logic, white people are african too. |

fieryy: Europeans migrated out of Africa as well. Everybody migrated out of Africa, lmaooo! However, we've been apart for a very long time now, which resulted into us being genetically diverse, so what exactly is your point?!
And aunty, which European country did you live in to come up with the conclusion of the average white woman wearing extension. You even took it a step further and said 'from a very young age' Leave that liar |

midnighter: Yes, it's your opinion that none of us look good with weaves and you're free to express it but you shouldn't be crafty or extreme in order to prove a point because it actually makes your argument weaker.
If I had said "what of those "natural beauties" with patch patchy wisps of hair over their bald heads" wouldn't it sound awful even though we know that that's how some of them look? You are being very unreasonable joor
It's not racist to state that some of us have particular features. It's racist to use that fact to argue that we look grotesque in weaves and wigs, when having a flat nose doesn't necessarily mean that straight hair looks bad on you. Chinese people nko?
The fact is that having large lips doesn't automatically disqualify you from looking decent with straight hair, just like having kinky hair doesn't automatically disqualify you from from looking decent with thin lips! You're so eager to squash everybody into your own tiny box for some reason when there are so many different looks that work well.
Being from Nigeria doesn't automatically mean that using a foreign first name is beyond you. You may disagree with it for your own reasons but it doesn't necessarily make the other person ignorant or stupid.
Will you say "big black face with big lips doesn't suit English name" Because that's racist! I'm sure in the UK you're talking from you can be arrested for saying that.
It depends. Are you going to say that " rounder nose and full lips don't look good with long, straight hair"? Because that's racist too.
It has nothing to do with being mixed or not. I asked you a question- do black people with straight noses and thin lips always automatically look good in any wig they wear?
I'm quoting you because you're saying the wrong thing thinking that you're sounding more enlightened when actually your argument lacks intelligence and nuance.
There are full black people all over Nigeria with thin noses and lips are you're here talking about "mixed" like one bush woman! I just can't understand it.
How can you claim to have left your "oppression" but still be so narrow-minded?
You're the most oppressed person here, if you don't know. Crafty in what way? How is it racist to say black ppl look better in our own hair because of our features?? If I was saying we look better in weave wouldn't that be even more racist? Would you prefer that?? Cos you've seen someone with patchy wisps of hair leaving their house right? Weaves are not even about our features alone anyway. Bleaching the knots, gluing the lace. Black women do these things in an attempt to make weaves look natural. But the main thing about making fake hair look natural is the texture. Black women are fooling nobody. Are chinese full featured like black ppl? I honesty don't thinking saying big lips big nose don't suit an english name is racist. They're trying to say a person with those features naturally wouldn't have an English name. Which black person has STRAIGHT noses and THIN lips?? Do you know what you're saying? Those aren't our features. Don't even bring up Somali or fulani. Oppressed by who exactly? |

eyinjuege: Your average white woman does wear clip on extensions. Infact, they start wearing them from secondary school. You do reek of inferiority complex, despite all your attempts in trying to appear woke. Whites have blonde hair, but we do have some Africans with naturally blond hair too. That's why I mentioned earlier about the black race being so diverse genetically and pheonytpically. I have attached some pictures of some children with typical black features and their blond hair. A simple google search. Meanwhile, there are also some blacks with blue eyes. Fact.
What do you understand by alopecia? You've just being shouting it upandan. I do hope you know it's a legitimate medical condition. I know traction alopecia can be caused by pulling your hair from some of these styles that play with the edges, but some are caused by even packing your natural hair all back.
This babe, you have too much mouth for someone doing care work in the UK o. You say blacks in diaspora take care of themselves better? Awon ti London J.UK... Wehdone sir Black ppl can't do without comparing their negatives to whites and dragging them into the convo, yet I'm the one with inferiority complex? Stop lying, the average white person doesn't wear hair extensions and even then, it matches their hair. Are there the chinese making money off white people like blacks? Did you just post picture of australoids? You know they aren't part of the black race right?? Australoids are closer genetically to asians than black people in africa. You have no point. And yes silly, I was talking about traction alopecia which is self-inflicted. Why would you think i was talking about the former? I told you I'm doing care work abi? You must have dementia. |

midnighter: It's not about arguing that we look better in our natural hair. You are free to think that. And it's true to an extent.
It's about you implying that we don't look good at all in weaves or other styles, when that's simply not true. And you're being deliberately insincere by using extreme language to prove your point.
You keep using words like big lips and big noses which is racist. Not all of us have big noses and lips. You're just trying to be controversial in an effort to sound enlightened.
What about people with narrow noses and thin lips, do they have your permission to wear their weaves now?
If you had said that people should try to be realistic about their facial and bone structure when choosing styles, I would have understood but you're just being vulgar and offensive to prove a point.
I don't need to you to confirm for me whether black women look better in weaves or not. What I'm saying is that you shouldn't be so quick to judge people just because they don't conform to your view.
The systems of oppression that led to this discussion in the first place are well-established and complex. You are wrong to lord it over people just because you have had a different experience.
If you want to put your point across then do it without being arrogant. You are actually scaring people away from the natural hair movement with your attitude. Honestly no, blk women don't look good in weaves. Hopefully you'll understand this later. How is that racist?? Do you perceive your features so negatively?? So its racist to say blk ppl have big noses and lips? Isnt that our biology? Are you projecting on me cos you don't like those features?? I guess saying blk ppl have kinky hair is racist too. Ok, not all black ppl have big noses and lips, but our noses are rounder and flatter and our lips are fuller. Does that sound better to you? When you say narrow noses and lips? Do you mean narrow like a caucasian? How many blks that aren't mixed have those features?? Why did you quote me, if you don't want me to confirm anything, why you mad sis? I was "oppressed" but managed to overcome i guess. |

midnighter: I have talked about that already.
I understand that we have a problem with inferiority complex and making our hair look more "white" but that doesn't mean that everybody who does that is totally ignorant about what makes them look good or that people who don't automatically conform to your view of what looks "good" must be stupid. They are ignorant. We look better in our real hair. The world needs to see out beauty. Blk women don't realise that we give other races power when try to look like them. If I was saying blk women look better in their weaves, I'm sure you'd find that less offensive. |

midnighter: So you should say it like that instead of implying that all people who use extensions must hate themselves.
You're just being facetious, so what of black people who wear black or brown hair?
If you want to make a point you should be reasonable. Don't use extreme examples to paint all black women bad. What do you mean extreme examples? Doesn't the average black women wear hair that looks nothing like the hair underneath? Is that extreme or is that commonplace? A generalisation doesn't mean all, it's just too many. |

midnighter: It's not self-hate at all. What about white womem who go and get blond extensions sewn into their scalp to make it appear thicker
What about those who use kinky or yakki extensions that mimic their natural hair texture?
If you keep arguing like that you will eventually reach the conclusion that basically all body modifications mean that you "hate yourself".
Adding attachments helps to keep the hair neat for longer which is less stress on the child since they won't need to keep making it every week. I really don't want to go into this. But... The average white woman doesn't wear fake hair, but the average black woman does. If I leave my house right now, I'm guaranteed to bump into black women with wigs but I know the white woman will all be natural. Secondly, its natural for whites to have blonde hair but not for black ppl. That's their problem. How many blk women wear yaki? Not enough sis. |

eyinjuege: The purpose of this thread is about not plaiting/braiding children's hair because it's too painful Not about self hate or wearing weaves and some obviously ridiculous hair pieces . That would be another long topic on it's own. I think the thread has being derailed Many mothers plait their children's hair, not out of self hate. Our foremothers have been plaiting hair since time immemorial. That has always been our culture, and never about self hate. That is what makes us who we are. If we're not threading our hair, we're plaiting it or even using extensions and ornaments.. They used shea butter in those days, and still managed to have long hair, while some cannot just grow their hair. I think Chad people use chebe powder which worked well for them too as many have very long hair. However, that's where your genetics also come into play again. Fulani people have always had fine long hair (fine in the sense that it's smooth and straight) probably types 2 hair type. It's still their genetics and they are Africans too. So putting extensions in a little girls hair is not self hate? their hair is still tender and growing, they don't need extensions to pull out the little bit of hair they have. I am ok with braiding it just shouldn't be TIGHT. That's what the women in this thread aren't getting. And fulanis are mixed. You have no point. |

U see, we don't have beauty professionals who are experts on natural hair. Also I noticed that the natural hair products in Nigerian markets are foreign. We assume it's not manageable but if we use the money we spend on artificial and hours of braiding to do the right thing for our natural.hair, we will find out that our hair is indeed beautiful. |

eyinjuege: People grow hair. But don't forget the genetic part of hair growth. No matter how much you look after your hair, your genes also play a major role. The most major role tbh. In hair loss/shedding, in hair growth don't ever forget the genetic component. All the American youtube channels always conveniently forget to mention this in their pro-black wokeness. Just saying... I know. But nigerian women don't even give their hair a chance to determine if its genetic or not? Their self hate has been imbibed from a young age. |

My hair is exactly like the pictures of this comment I quoted, I didn't have to put different chemicals or oils and whatnot to achieve that, I believe in making the hair grow on its own, using enhancing whatever spoils the hair and texture, I come from a line of long full hair people, not everyone will achieve the long soft hair no matter how much they spend on it, whether natural or not, if you don't have a long hair, you don't, stop making your illogical opinion seem 100% right, it isn't, we are talking of kids here, not adults. You missed my point. A friend of mine in Nigeria gets asked if she is mixed race cos her hair is longer than Nigerian standards.
