President Muhammadu Buhari sends condolences to Nigerians, and to the Government and people of Anambra State, on the passing away of elder statesman and former Vice President, Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme (GCON), on Sunday, November 19, 2017.

President Buhari also commiserated with the entire Oko Kingdom, the Aguata Council of Traditional Rulers, and the Ekwueme family, over the loss of the family’s patriarch, whose regular counsels on national issues and mediations for peaceful co-existence would be sorely missed.



The President affirmed that Dr Ekwueme’s unwavering commitment to the unity of Nigeria had been a major encouragement to many governments, recalling the personal sacrifices he made in helping to lay the foundation for sustainable democracy in Nigeria.

President Buhari believes Dr Ekwueme worked assiduously to improve the livelihood of many poor and underprivileged people through the Alex Ekwueme Foundation, describing him as a man who served his country and humanity.

The President prays that the almighty God will receive the soul of the former Vice President, and grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Algeria’s new coach, Rabah Madjer has described the Super Eagles as a team of benchwarmers, which has only one regular player in its squad.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria, Madjer, who was one of the stars of the great Algerian side of the 1980s, said the Super Eagles should not pose any threat to the North Africans because it is a team with many players who don’t get to play for their European clubs.

“I have studied the Nigerian team, apart from Iwobi, every other player is mostly a substitute for his team in Europe, but that doesn’t mean they will not be at the level to face us.

“The game against Nigeria is not a friendly match for me…to me it is the first game of the qualifiers for the 2018 African Cup of Nations in Cameroun,” he said.

President Buhari’s Spokesperson, Femi Adesina, who was Osasu Igbinedion’s guest on ‘Osasu Show’, talked about the 2019 election, and also revealed that APC has no Presidential candidate yet.

Femi who disclosed that President may not contest in the election, however further said that APC won’t give anyone an automatic ticket as that will be undemocratic.



The Presidential spokesperson who also talked about the President’s health, further said his healing is a miracle and quite phenomenal.

“As the local saying goes, you don’t shave a man’s head in his absence and nobody can decide for the President. He is the one who can decide for himself.

“People can voice their opinion which they have done, people can indicate their desire but the ultimate decision will be that of the president.

“So far, we don’t have a candidate for 2019.”

The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, on Friday sacked two traditional rulers.

They are the Village Head of Hungu, Ibrahim Shehu and the Ward Head of Zangwan, Galal Nadabo Adamu.



The title holders were allegedly involved in a syndicated case with a Police Inspector, Umaru Abubakar, for collecting over N50,000 from the mother of an accused, Hauwa Sule, in Albasu Local Area.

Emir Sanusi announced the sacking of the traditional title holders after receiving an investigative report on the matter at his palace.

The document was presented by the District Head of Albasu, Alhaji Bashir Albasu, Katikan Kano.

The Nation newspaper reports that already, N33,000 has been collected out of the N50,000 from the mother of the suspect, Yusuf Sule of Hungun Village of Albasu LGA.

World football–governing body, FIFA, has given approval for the international friendly between Nigeria and Argentina to go ahead as scheduled in Krasnodar, Russia on Tuesday, 14th November 2017.


This was contained in a letter forwarded to the Football Union of Russia, addressed to the General Secretary, Aleksandr Alaev, and signed by FIFA’s Director of Competitions, Christian Unger.


The letter, dated 31 October 2017 read, inter alia: “FIFA would like to thank you for complying with the Regulations Governing International Matches by submitting the relevant information and authorisations for the following tier 1 international match: Argentina Vs Nigeria, Krasnodar Stadium, Krasnodar, 14 November 2017.



“In accordance with article 7 of the regulations, FIFA is happy to provide official authorisation for this men’s tier 1 international match.


“Please note that this authorisation is conditional upon FIFA receiving details of the referees who will officiate in the stated match. We will confirm authorisation once the referee details have been received and checked. We would like to remind you that only referees included in the 2017 FIFA Refereeing Lists can officiate in an international “A” match.


“We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that in accordance with article 12 of the Regulations Governing International Matches, your association is required to ensure that a completed association report, list of players for both teams and the referee report are submitted to FIFA within 48 hours of each international “A” match.”

The management of National Youth Service Scheme, NYSC, has apologized to corps members over delayed in payment of October allowance for corpers most especially those that passed out on Thursday.

The scheme said the delay was a result of technical issues in the payment system which will be resolved in couple of days.

PAYMENT OF PERSONAL ALLOWANCE TO CORPS MEMBERS

The Management of the National Youth Service Corps regrets the delay being experienced in the payment of personal allowance to Corps members.

Management wishes to inform Corps members and the rest of the public that funds have since been released by the Federal Government, but the delay is as a result of technical problems with the payment platform.

We wish to further inform that the service providers are working round the clock to restore connectivity so as to allow seamless crediting of Corps members' accounts. We are confident that this will be achieved in a couple of days.

Management appreciates the patience shown by Corps members in the face of this unforeseen challenge, and appeals for more understanding as we are working assiduously with the relevant agencies to address the problem.

Payment of Corps members' allowance is a top priority for the Federal Government and the NYSC Scheme, and wish to restate our commitment to the welfare of the youth on national service at all times.

A former governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Mahmuda Shinkafi, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He picked his membership card at the party’s secretariat in Gusau, the state capital, on Thursday.

Shinkafi, who was accompanied to the venue by party supporters, was received by the state’s Deputy Governor, Malam Ibrahim Wakkala on behalf of Governor Abdul’Aziz Yari.

In his remark, Shinkafi promised to work for the development of the party, not only at the state level but the country as a whole.

“My coming to APC is home coming for me, because I left it before and now I am back home to my brothers and sisters. Together we are going to work for the party to become stronger and the party to beat in the state,” he said.

Deputy governor, Wakkala described the return of Shinkafi as a `boost’ to the APC in the state


“It is not a matter of coming back but it is a return to the fold of Yarimawa. Together we are going to build the APC to become more vibrant and a viable political party in the state and country,” he said.

Shinkafi was a deputy governor to the first Zamfara civilian governor, Alhaji Ahmad Sani for eight years under the platform of the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP).

He later became the governor of the state in 2007 in the same party before defecting to the People Democratic Party (PDP) in 2008, after being elected as the governor in 2007.

Shinkafi contested for governor as PDP candidate in 2011 and 2015 losing at both times to the incumbent Abdul’Aziz Yari of the APC.

A new report by BudgIT, a civil society organisation, has shown that only four states in Nigeria can pay salaries without resorting to lending or going to Abuja for bailout funds.

The report, state of State 2017, was launched on Thursday and released to the public on Friday.

“Important is states’ ability to meet their recurrent expenditure obligation with all revenue source — a test of prudent fiscal management.

The states are:

1. Kano,

2. Katsina,


3. Rivers and

4. Lagos top that portion of the index.

“In effect, only four states could meet their recurrent expenditure obligation without resorting to borrowing or tapping donor funds and other extra-budgetary revenue sources.”

Majority of the states lost large portions of the federal accounts allocation committee (FAAC) monthly allocation to monthly deductions over debts.

The Federal Government has asked Nigerians not to eat monkeys, bush meat and dead animals.


The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, said this in a statement signed by the Director, Media and Public Relations at the ministry, Mrs. Boade Akinola, on Thursday.


The statement read in part, “He said that the virus was mild and there was no known treatment and no preventive vaccines hence the public should be at alert and avoid crowded places as much as possible


“He advised the public to avoid eating dead animals, bush meat and particularly bush monkeys.”


The minister also revealed that test samples had been sent to the World Health Organisation in Senegal but the result was not yet out.




The statement added, “Prof. Adewole said although Monkeypox could not be confirmed until laboratory investigations by WHO referral laboratory in Dakar, Senegal, he noted that Monkeypox was milder and had no record of mortality.


“The symptoms include headache, fever, back pains and in advanced cases, rashes bigger than those caused by chicken pox.”


This is coming after the outbreak of Monkeypox disease in Bayelsa which has claimed the lives of eleven people.
