Politics / Peace Corps Commandant Wants Law To Stop Police From Arresting Without Reason by 247frolic(m): 2:07pm On Mar 04, 2017
The Commandant of the Nigerian Peace Corps, Dickson Akoh has called on the National Assembly to amend the extant laws of Nigeria's security agencies so that the police can be prevented from harassing innocent citizens unnecessarily.

Akoh was recently arrested by the police without reason.

“The National Assembly should come up with a bill to amend, if there is any existing law, that permits security agencies to pick innocent people, parade them, lie against them, and at the end, they would not have anything tangible against them," he said shortly after his release from police custody.

“It happened to us before in 2011, at the end, there was no charge before courts of law. The court discharged us from Gudu High Court, and held that, it was wrong for them to detain us for a long time and be asking for a withholding charge for a matter that is not a capital offence.

“What they are doing now is to prove to the whole world that they are working. Rushing into parading people unjustly is very sad. What are the evidences tendered against us? They only tendered my uniform, my official portrait that I have been using in the same office that some of them had come to visit and our flag. How does that constitute anything criminal?”, Akoh queried.

Religion / How To End Xenophobic Attacks In South Africa – TB Joshua by 247frolic(m): 5:36pm On Feb 26, 2017
The founder of Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, Prophet TB Joshua, has waded into the ‎renewed attack on Nigerian nationals in South Africa,.

The Prophet called on Africans to unite to prevent the persistent xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in the country.

Speaking to his congregation at SCOAN on Sunday, TB Joshua advised Africans to be concerned about one another, noting that we (Africans) have a common enemy, which is the cause of xenophobic attacks.

He said,
“The wound of one should be the wound of all. Whatever happens in any African country, we should come together – what can we do?

“What happens in Nigeria – every African should be concerned. Every African should be concerned with whatever happens in South Africa. We should see it as if it happens in our own country.

“The wound of one should be the wound of all. Every continent is like a human being.

“South Africa is a hand; Ghana is another hand. Nigeria may be a leg; Congo could be an eye. In the body, if anything happens to a part of it, the whole body will feel it.

“The wound of one should be the wound of all. Today, if anything happens to a country, people say they will carry their people – where are you carrying them to? Why can’t we come together and redeem our continent?

“AFRICA, UNITE! We have a common enemy – Satan!

“We have one enemy camouflaged differently, uniformed differently. What is happening there can happen in any country. Africa, let us unite,” the Prophet added.

Politics / Nigeria To Export Yams To China – Minister Of Agriculture by 247frolic(m): 8:00am On Feb 25, 2017
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, said yesterday that China has requested for Nigerian dry yam and exporting of it will begin soon.

He spoke while inaugurating the committee on Nigerian yam export programme in Abuja.

“The Chinese were here a few days ago and were asking for dry yam. I wondered why they wanted it dried. The Chinese are very clever, they said 40% of yam is water and they don’t want the water, they want the yams. So if we have to ship yams to China, we have to find a way of drying it,” he said.

The minister while citing figures from the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) said Nigeria, which produces 61.7% of total global production, does not have a share of the yam export market.

“Unfortunately, we are not among the yam exporters-that is something to worry us. Ghana seems to control the African export market. I am not sure if they produce as much yams as Niger, Benue, Ebonyi or Ekiti states,” he said.

Chief Ogbeh asked the committee to develop a framework for the establishment of Nigerian yam export and pack houses in all the land and sea ports where documentations for yam export are processed.

Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos has vowed to fight against the emergence of a corrupt bigwig who served with former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the president of Nigeria.

Akiolu, though did not mention the name of Obasanjo’s ally he was referring to, pointer in his statement was referring to for Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, who served in Obasajo’s government.

A few weeks ago he came down hard on Atiku and Lawan Daura, saying they were responsible for his ouster from the Nigeria police.

“I insist that there is no era for somebody who spent the first three years of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s government making money and turning many companies to his own to come back to be the President of this country again. I mean it and I mean it and by God’s grace, it shall be so,” he said.

Politics / Ojukwu Would Be An APC Member If He Was Alive Today- Chief Okeke by 247frolic(m): 6:55am On Feb 16, 2017
An Anambra state governorship aspirant, Chief Ralph Okeke, has stated that late Igbo leader, Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, would be an APC member if he were alive today.

"It is is a shame that Anambra state is still governed by a party that exists only in one state," he said on Wednesday. "I know for sure that if Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu were alive today, he would have joined APC for national integration.

"This is because Ojukwu's intention was to raise APGA to be accepted nationwide and win the presidency. But now that some characters have made APGA remain as one state party, I am sure that the Ikemba would have joined other well meaning Nigerians in APC to make Anambra and the country great."

Politics / PHOTOS: Rivers CAN Honours Governor Wike As "Apostle Of Peace " by 247frolic(m): 8:50pm On Feb 11, 2017
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has announced that the State Government will establish Ecclesiastical Courts to handle Christian matters across the state.

This is as the Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN) Rivers State performed the investiture of Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike as the Rivers State "Apostle of Peace " for his commitment to peace and actions that have made Rivers State one of the most peaceful states in the country.

Addressing Christians at the Civic Centre, Port Harcourt on Saturday after his investiture as the "Apostle of Peace " during the Rivers State Peace Campaign organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria, Governor Wike informed that the State Government has already submitted the bill for the creation of the Ecclesiastical Courts to the Rivers State House of Assembly.

He noted that Ecclesiastical Courts will work alongside the Customary Courts to tackle issues directly affecting Christians in their daily lives.

The governor said: "Other states have courts that handle their different religious issues. I want to reiterate that Rivers State is purely a Christian State. Therefore, issues that affect Christians must be tackled in legal ways that promote peace".

He informed that the Rivers State House of Assembly has amended the relevant law that permits the State Government to give grants to churches to improve the facilities in their schools.

Rivers State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Most Rev Isaac Anyanasikike said that the State Peace Campaign is aimed at consolidating the gains of peace in the state.

He lauded Governor Wike for building peace across the state through his successful implementation of the State Amnesty Programme and his support for the security agencies.

Explaining the reason behind the award of the "Apostle of Peace " to Governor Wike, an official of Rivers CAN, Rev Dan Obinna declared that Governor Wike has transformed the state into one of the most peaceful states in the country.

He said though the governor inherited a state where insecurity reigned because the immediate past administration closed the courts for two years, incapacitated the Rivers State House of Assembly and destroyed the traditional rulers council.

He said immediately Governor Wike took over he reinstated the institutions of Government and started the process of empowerment which has improved peace in the state.

Highpoint of the event was the conferment on Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the award of the "Apostle of Peace " by the State Chairman of CAN, Most Rev Isaac Anyanasikike supported by the Methodist Archbishop of Bishop, Most Rev Sunday Agwu, Anglican Bishop of Evo Diocese, Most Rev Innocent Ordu and Pastor Ene Secondus.
