Sokoto government will meet all its obligations to international donor agencies in order to hasten development of targeted sectors across the state, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, hassaid.Speaking in Abuja Monday during the launch of the Nigerian Partnership for Education Project (NIPEP), Tambuwal said enabling environment would be provided for the utilisation of all grants received to achieve the desired results.



The NIPEP is an effort of the Federal Ministry of Education and the Global Partnership for Education to combat poor performance of five states in the North-west geo-political zone of thecountry.The sum $100 million has been set aside for the project. The grant is expected to bring relief to funding of education programmes where indexes on education appears to be at the lowest ebb compared to other regions.The money would be used to scale up basic education, with emphasis on the girl-child in the five focal states. The states, according to Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, are Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Jigawa and Sokoto.



According to him, the grant, which is the GPE intervention in Nigeria, targeted states because of the high number of out-of-school children in the zone.“The North-west geo-political zone has the highest number of out-of-school children even before the activities of insurgents compounded the problem with the spillover from the North-east,” the minister, represented by the Minister of State for Education, Professor Anthony Onwuka, said.The minister tasked the benefiting states to utilise the fund transparently in line with the anti-corruption stance of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.He reiterated the administration commitment to provide quality education to all children across the country.



Speaking at the event, the World Bank Specialist in Nigeria, Tunde Adekola, said the GPE, which was put in place in 2002 by member states of the United Nations, channels donations made by international bodies and philanthropists to support educational development.

The Nigerian Army Resource Centre Seminar with “The Theme: Repositioning Nigerian Army Command Schools for Quality Education in the 21st Century” was held on 5 and 6 May 16. Four topics were carefully selected to explore and make a foray into the problems of Nigerian Army Command Schools. These 4 lectures were, Quality Delivery in Nigerian Army Command Schools: An Appraisal; Employment of Appropriate Instructional Materials and Techniques for Effective Learning; School Management in the 21st Century: A Case of Command Secondary Schools Nation Wide and lastly, The Concept of Schools Management: The Nigerian Navy/Air Force Experience. Each exposition of these lectures and the interrogation that followed during the interactive session did more than justice to the topics. The challenges were sufficiently brought out, models were presented and thoughtful recommendations were made.



It was generally agreed that all hands should be on deck to do the needful in order to translate these topics to the desired end state. For the discussions in the Seminar to gain traction, all stakeholders were enjoined to change their attitude and approach to matters of high priority such as Education in Nigerian Army Secondary Schools. The journey to the Seminar started when the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) realised the need and conceived the idea to rescue Nigerian Army Command Secondary Schools from the rot that has eaten it. While the COAS gave life to this by providing the spirit, all other stakeholders were encouraged to give it the soul and the body to live in.



Even though those that participated in the Seminar did not constitute upto 2% of all the stakeholders in this endeavor, it however provided the framework which is analogous to the skeleton, with all participants taking ownership by providing the flesh. Although the COAS has provided the necessary leadership and finances, repositioning Nigerian Army Command Schools require more than just funds. Stakeholders were therefore tasked to ensure that the implementation of the highlights of discussions during the seminar commences in earnest.



The Seminar identified the need for stakeholders to reposition Nigerian Army Command Schools and in this regard, they were required to put in their best so that in a few years from now, Nigerian Army Command Schools will not only have been repositioned for quality delivery in the 21st century and beyond, but would provide the template with which to reposition all secondary schools in Nigeria. At the end of the Seminar, the Nigerian Army Resource Centre specifically appreciated the COAS, Lt Gen TY Buratai for his purposeful and visionary leadership of the Nigerian Army. The Centre also appreciated all those who participated in the Seminar, in ensuring the recorded success.

Government adopting twin strategy in dealing with oil installation attacks, wants average Nigerians in Niger Delta to benefit from resources

Releasing the names of persons from whom the federal government has recovered looted funds and assets may jeopardize ongoing investigations, the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has said.

While the government released a list of sums of monies and assets already recovered in the last one year, names of individuals involved were not included.

"We have released the list of recovered loot, we know people are are asking for the names, but releasing the names may jeopardize ongoing investigations," the Vice President saidtoday at the Presidential Villa during a meeting with a delegation of the European Union led by the EU Ambassador in Nigeria, Mr. Michel Arrion.

The Vice President also explained that the federal government is engaging leaders and people of the Niger Delta regarding the spate of attacks on oil installations in the area, an act he stated amounts to economic sabotage. But besides reaching out to the people in the area, government is also beefing up security he assured.


According to him, the focus of the Buhari presidency "is to ensure that the man on the street in the Niger Delta receives the benefit from all that is available there," while calling on the leaders in the region to be accountable to the people.

Prof. Osinbajo added that government is working round the clock to minimize the losses arising from the attacks, adding that "we are talking, we are ensuring that we minimize losses and we are stepping up security. We are also engaging the international oil companies, IOCs, to see what options exists."

On economic issues, the Vice President restated government's commitment to drive its diversification policy and encouraged investors from European countries to take advantage of the situation especially in the agro-allied/processing industry.

He restated the determination of the administration to ensure that the ease of doing business ranking in Nigeria goes up by at least 20 steps in the World Bank rating. To this end, he said the President has approved the composition of a Presidential Commission on the matter to be chaired by himself, the VP, and Industry, Trade & Investment Minister, Dr. Okey Enelamah as Vice Chairman. "In the next few months, we should be seeing some changes," he promised.

Earlier Ambassador Arrion said he came to hold consultations with the Vice President as a follow-up on President Buhari's meeting with EU leaders during his visit to the continent, adding that "Nigeria has a huge market we can invest in. It is also a place we can export from."

Both the Vice President and the European Union Envoy also discussed the EU trade deal with ECOWAS, the Economic Partnership Agreement, EPA, which was also one of the main issues tabled at the meeting of West African leaders over the weekend in Dakar.

Popular Kannywood actor, Abbas Sadiq, was involved in a ghastly motor accident in Abuja on Friday, June 3.

Abbas Sadiq The superb actor is currently at the Kubwa General Hospital, receiving treatment. The accident occured along Kubwa expressway.

She was murdered in cold blood ostensibly because she believed that an electoral mandate given to her husband during the June 12, 1993, democratic election could not simply be set aside.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Alh. Yakubu Ibn Muhammed as the new DG of Nigerian Television Authority (NTA)

Yakubu Mohammed joined the services of the NTA Jos in 1977 as Current Affairs Producer. He later held various senior management positions, among which were Controller News and Current Affairs, NTA, Jos; General Manager, NTA Bauchi; Director of News, NTA headquarters; and Executive Director Special Services, NTA headquarters, before his retirement in 2012.

He was born on November 11,1953, and attended the Ahmadu Bello University and has a degree in Social Sciences. Mohammed is married with four children and currently serves as the Special Adviser to Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar of Bauchi State on Media and Communications.

Entertainment channel’s Schedule after many Nigerians complained about the show. ‎A statement released by the satellite TV company yesterday May 24th, say they are aware of the concerns raised by some of their viewers regarding the programme “I Am Cait”, a reality show about Caitlyn Jenner’s transgender journey.
