A www.newshelm.com reader reported to our news desk that gun shots were heard at the popular Agric bus stop in Ikorodu, Lagos state but the fear of previous happenings in the area did not allow anyone to probe further.


The RSS this morning confirmed that the gun shot were from kidnappers. The Team of RRS Officers led by its Commander covered the areas of Agbede/Owutu and Agric Area of Ikorodu.



The RRS discovered the shooting was an attempt to kidnap NUPENG PTD CHAIR RASAQ ALABI.

In their bid to clear the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists hiding in some parts of the North Eastern of the country, troops have intensified efforts on clearance operations.

It is in this regard that the 29 Brigade Quick Reaction Force (QRF), in conjunction with Civilian JTF carried out an ambush against Boko Haram terrorists east of Marguba village in Kaga Local Government Area, Borno State yesterday Friday.

The troops killed 2 of the Boko Haram terrorists, while some of them sustained gun shot wounds as could be seen from traces of blood during mopping up.

They also recovered 1 AK-47 rifle with 29 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, a bow and arrows, a Tecno mobile telephone handset, 1 wallet and an Identity Card of Animal Dealers Association, amongst other items.

In a related development, troops along with Civilian JTF have continued clearance operations within Sambisa forest despite harsh climatic conditions and bad terrain occasioned by heavy down rainfalls especially within Gombale area.

Despite bugging down of vehicles and equipment because of the bad terrain, the troops have continued with their clearance operations.

Full Text of President Buhari’s Speech At 2016 Army Day Celebration In Gusau, Zamfara

I am delighted to be in your midst today in Gusau, Zamfara State to witness the Grand Finale of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration 2016. I am particularly glad with the choice of Gusau for the conduct of this exercise and for the wisdom of incorporating a live Field Training Exercise into the celebration to clear remnants of cattle rustlers and armed bandits terrifying innocent citizens in this general area.



The remarkable success recorded during the conduct of the exercise has no doubt served the purpose and aptly drive the realization of the theme of the celebration which is, Optimizing the Capability of the Nigerian Army to meet Contemporary Security Challenges.



I sympathize with the people of this area for the enormous losses they suffered as a result of the incessant activities of the insurgents and cattle rustlers whose actions have made farming, livestock management and other economic activities more difficult even in the face of the general economic challenges.



I am quite optimistic that the operations of the last few days will surely lead to the restoration of economic activities of surrounding communities bedevilled for some time now by the menace of cattle rustling and banditry.



I therefore commend the Chief of Army Staff for this foresight and initiative and for mobilizing adequate resources to ensure precision in the conduct of the exercise. I also applaud the collaboration with sister services and other security agencies in order to degrade and decimate the miscreants. I urge you to intensify and perfect current strategies, approaches, techniques and tactics towards curtailing all forms of lawlessness across the country.



It is quite gratifying to inspect the equipment displayed which showcased the robust capability of the Nigerian Army to ward off internal and external aggression against the nation. The Command Post Exercise also reminds me of the importance of staff work in the field during the civil war in the 60s and the Chadian Operations in the 80s.



I am pleased at the dexterity, prowess and level of professionalism displayed by various components including the combat airborne jump by personnel of the Nigerian Army supported by the Nigerian Air Force. I am quite confident that the Nigerian Armed Forces have been amply repositioned more than ever before to resolutely confront contemporary and emerging security challenges in the country.



The involvement of private partners in the defence sector especially in terms of provision of specialist equipment under the Public Private Partnership is a welcome development. I urge the Armed Forces to leverage on this opportunity towards enhancing capacity.



On the part of the Government, let me assure you of our resolve and continued support to enhance the operational efficiency of the Nigerian Armed Forces to effectively discharge their constitutional roles. We remain committed to ensuring that you are provided with the required resources and impetus to operate professionally and efficiently.



Finally, I congratulate all the award recipients for their outstanding contributions to the successes recorded by the Nigerian Army. I urge all officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army to sustain the current tempo. I also congratulate the Nigerian Army for its one hundred and fifty three (153) years of noble and purposeful existence and for being a critical instrument of national unity, cohesion and integration. We look forward to better days ahead.

In the recent article published By Mr Dele Momodu, Like every other Nigerian, he tried being as positive as ever and if you can read my mind, every nigerian who wants progress are keeping this as their watch-word "I'm not bothered abt geopolitical zones/tribe,we just want the best"


Honestly, thats the spirit but sometimes being logical, especially in Nigeria, does not help and like we have seen in different aspects that what obtains in other parts of the world does not apply to the average Nigerian society.


We therefore plead with Mr president to please, in future appointments, he should look into other Ethnic groups and geo-political zones as they have people who can also serve in different respects as these capable notherners.



We have over 250 ethnic gropus in this country so diversifying appointments wont hurt a soul!!!

The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), the militant group leading the attacks on oil installations, has blown up pipelines belonging to Chevron and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).



Mudoch Agbinibo, spokesman of the group, disclosed this in a brief statement.



“At 10pm Niger Delta Avengers blew up Chevron Well 10 close to Otunana flow station,” he said.



“Other attacks were carried out at 11:15pm. Nigerdelta Avengers blow up NPDC Manifold close to Banta and two PPMC/NNPC crude oil trunk Lines.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday arraigned Mr. Jide Omokore, an ally of a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.



The oil magnate was arraigned along with Andrew Yakubu, a former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.



They were arraigned by the EFCC before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja on four counts of Money Laundering.



Other defendants to the charge are: Victor Briggs, Abiye Membere, David Mbanefo, Atlantic Energy Brass Development Limited and Atlantic Energy Drilling Concepts Limited.



They pleaded not guilty.

A Cameroonian who revealed his name as Sharkan Lucas, on Wednesday made shocking revelations on how he took to having se’x with dead bodies due to constant rejection from ladies because he works as mortuary attendant.

Lucas, an attendant at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, insisted he was mentally stable.


Speaking on Ghanaian TV station ADOM TV, the mortician claimed that sleeping with the dead women (an act called necrophilia) was part of the training he received when he was hired at the hospital in Ghana.




Lucas said, “I do it many many times. That is the training you have to do that, because once you have done that you will not be afraid of them again. If you want to bath the dead body, you will carry her legs up to wash her private part, that’s why we are taught to learn to sleep with the corpses. When I am inside the mortuary, I see some fresh girls and I satisfy myself.


“Being with dead bodies is normal for me because I am with them day and night. I feel like they are living whenever I am at work.


“Besides, I wanted to marry but the girl says I am a mortuary man. I can satisfy myself at the mortuary because girls don’t want to date me outside or live with me for fear that I may kill them. Living women rejected me because of my job, that is why I am still single.


“Since I was born, I have never slept with a living being. Working in a mortuary is a gift God gave me, it’s my talent. It’s very rare, not everybody can do it.

ollowing combined clearance operations against Boko Haram terrorists from other parts of our neighbouring countries, escaping terrorists attempted an incursion into our troops position while in harbour at Kangarwa on Wednesday evening.



The troops dealt decisively with the fleeing terrorists and recovered arms and ammunitions from them in an encounter that lasted for about 3 hours. Quite a number of the Boko Haram terrorists were killed, while several others escaped with gun shot wounds. Unfortunately, 8 soldiers and 2 Civilian JTF were however wounded in action during the encounter. They have since been evacuated for proper medical attention.



They are in stable condition and responding to treatment.In addition, one of the troop’s Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle caught fire following a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) shot that affected the fuel tank and other electrical fittings.



The troops however quickly put off the fire.The gallant troops captured a number of motorcycles, 1 General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), 3 AK-47 Rifles, 6 Mortar Bombs, 4 Rocket Propelled Grenade Bombs, 3 Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Chargers, various types of ammunitions a 16/750 tyre and assorted types of drugs.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday Ramadan fast with members of the diplomatic corps at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Following his declaration as the Abia State Governor by the Federal High Court and collection of certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC on Thursday, Sampson Ogah has insisted his swearing in program must be held against the Abia State High Court Injunction which forbade the exercise.

Sampson Ogah, in defiance to the injunction has announced his journey to Umuahia, the Abia State capital for the swearing in process.

Speaking through his Media Adviser, Monday Ubani, Ogah maintained that the injunction ordering an halt to his swearing in has no authority over the ruling of the Federal High Court.

He added that the injunction issued to Mr. Ikpeazu by the State High Court lacked the locus to do so. He further noted that only an Appeal court could enforce such order.

The statement reads: “The Federal high court of Abuja presided over by Justice Okon Abang ordered Dr Okezie Ikpeazu to vacate his seat for Dr Uche Ogah OON as the rightful person for the seat. INEC was ordered to issue the said Ogah with a certificate of return which that body has complied with.

“The next order that was issued by the federal high court was for the Chief Judge of Abia to swear in Dr Uche Ogah, the rightful person to occupy the governor’s seat. That order is yet to be complied with.

“I understand that a high court in Osisioma Ngwa the axis where the governor hails from has issued an interim order restraining the Chief Judge from swearing in Dr Uche Ogah as the governor of the State. The point must be made that this order cannot stand as it is invalid in law.

“The order did not emanate from a higher court but from a court of coordinate jurisdiction and does not in any vitiate or invalidate the earlier judgement of the Federal High Court in which the Chief Judge of Abia State was ordered to swear in Dr Uche Sampson Ogah. Only a higher court, in this case Court of Appeal has the jurisdiction to reverse the judgement of the Federal High Court
.
“Note also that appeal of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu before the Court of Appeal does not operate as a stay over the judgement of Justice Okon Abang. In the absence of any express order of the high court or the court of appeal ordering stay of execution, the judgement of the Federal High Court delivered on the 27th of June, 2016 should be obeyed by all the parties”.

Declaring his journey to the Abia State capital, Mr. Ogah through Peter Agba Kalu, another aide said: “We are entroute to Umuahia for the swearing in from Imo Airport.

“We don’t believe there is an injunction like that. The injunction is baseless and against the rules of the judiciary.

He continued: “Is the injunction saying that the Certificate of return issued to Uche Ogah is not legal. Is it saying that Abia should not have a Governor because the Certificate of return nollifies that issued to Ikpeazu.

“We also have a directive by the CJN that he should be sworn in immediately. So that injunction to the best of our knowledge does not exist and where it exist is null and void because it has already been overtaken by events.”
