“Most of these people are successful today because they were able to cover up their controversies but the record label I thought was my record label did not cover up my controversy. Chelsea’s John Obi Mikel has been named the Barclay Premier League’s African Player of the Month of December.
In a statement by the organisers New African Soccer, Mikel was voted and selected ahead of West Ham’s Cameroonian, Alex Song and Southampton striker, Senegalese Sadio Mane in a tight vote process.
Awards Director ‘Tunde Adelakun said: “as always, it was a difficult choice, but a lot of factors came into consideration before we selected Mikel”. “Mikel has endured a difficult start to the season, falling down the pecking order in a star-studded Chelsea team that is riding high in the Premier League. After all, we all know that no one likes changing a winning team. However, the spirit of professionalism which he displayed in waiting for his chance, and taking it well with some solid performances in a difficult month, tipped the award his way this month” Adelakun said.
Commending the performances of Alex Song and Sadio Mane, the statement said “Mane has settled into his role in the Premier League as if he has always been here. The way he took his goals against Crystal Palace and the might of Chelsea proves that the Senegalese will be a force in this League for some time to come. And as for Song, he is just solid as ever; and if he was not rested in some of the games over the festive period, he would have made the decision even harder for us”.
The presentation of MIkel’s award will be done in the coming days. The statement also added that the New African Soccer Awards has been merged with the Africans Abroad Recognised (AAR) Charter, which seeks to recognise the exploits of Africans in Diaspora in all walks of life.

In what looked like one of the best shows of 2014, Olamide Baddo staged a concert that will go down well in memory lane at the Eko Hotel Convention Centre on Sunday December 28th 2014. The YBNL Boss displayed series of mouthwatering displays from his array of tracks and his colleagues in the entertainment industry did not leave him to do the job alone as they show up in numbers to support one of their own. I guess the turnout was due to the loyalty he has been showing his colleagues in the industry over the years because it was massive and indeed a full house on the night.

The hall was full to capacity and there was no dull moments, as attendees witnessed series of top notch performances from the likes of Reminisce, Wizkid, Phyno, Pasuma wonder, Ice prince Zamani, Patoranking, Davido, Oritse Femi, The YBNL crew, Skales and several others.

Chinco Ekun and Base1 marveled the teeming crowd with superlative freestyle that is purely indigenous and classy they got everyone standing and left the stage with applauds. Basketmouth also wowed the audience with his jokes. Courtney Dike, Super Falconettes striker has rejected the $7,000 the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) paid all players for participating in the 2014 U-20 Women’s World Cup because she felt that playing for the country was enough reward. The US-born athlete also plays for the Oklahoma State Football team. “When we called her mother to confirm the delivery of the allowances, she declined it and insisted that the opportunity of playing for Nigeria was all the reward the family needed,” said Sanusi Mohammed, the NFF’s head of competitions. Dilichukwu Onyedinma, head of the Nigeria Women League board, said “She is a star and patriotic Nigerian who put service to her fatherland above money. Neymar has been keeping a holiday romance alive by flying model Soraja Vucelic to Barcelona in a private jet, according to reports in Serbia. Belgrade-based tabloid Kurir claim the pair met last summer in Ibiza and have been speaking frequently via Skype.
The paper say the couple agreed Vucelic would visit Barcelona at the end of October but then decided they couldn't wait that long.Neymar then cancelled Vucelic's original tickets and sent a private plane to collect her and friend instead. The Serbian beauty reportedly stayed in Barcelona for several days.
