Tonnierichy:The senate passed a resolution on tuesday 6th october mandating the SP to lead a senate delegation to the Awolowos. Why cant you people keep track of events before criticizing? |
Amaechi won't have problems on the following grounds: He was a leading member of New-PDP faction of APC. The same as the senate president. Note that the new-PDP faction felt they are not proportionately compensated by the other factions of APC hence they forcefully possess their possession in the National Assembly. The SP will not allow one of his own to be disgraced. He was the Director-General of Buhari Campaign Organization. The president has personal stake in ensuring his confirmation. The APC senators have nothing against him personally and given the role he played in APC victory, they owe him one. Legal Precedence has been set as far back as 2003 by court in the case of kwankwaso vs Kano state govt which was upheld in Muazu vs Bauchi state govt in 2009 that indictment by commission of enquiry even with govt white paper cannot prevent a person from seeking or assuming public office unless it is upheld in a court of law. |
Why Senator Philip Aduda (PDP) come take centre stage in the picture? |
If the meeting is to lobby for screening, why are house of reps members invited? Are they involved in screening of ministers too? The house of reps passed a resolution last week mandating the speaker to find a way to take the senate president to the president for a face-to-face meeting. This was widely reported in all media. |
How many extremists have Britain de-radicalise in its territory? London is gradually becoming Londonstan and Brits are joining ISIS in numbers. Is it the program they are funding or the Head of the program? Like a poster asked, what will be the case if something happen to Dr Akilu? How many Muslims not to talk of extremist will allow a woman to preach to him to the extent of deradicalising him? If she had been using imams and male colleagues to achieve that, what makes Britain think the same goal cannot be achieved under the new head? |
A People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senator, representing Abia North, Mao Ohuabunwa, said the list of ministerial nominees is expected to be complete in line with the Constitution. Is this senator aware that when GEJ removed 9 ministers in October 2014, he did not replace them till March 2015? If we are to go by his warped interpretation of the constitution, does it means those nine states that the sacked ministers came from were non-functional throughout the seven months that it took GEJ to replace them? |
TonyeBarcanista:The PDP man that an underaged beat? |
Pension funds are managed by private Pension Funds Administrators (PFAs) and the part that is not invested are kept by Pension Funds Custodians (these are banks). So how did GEJ govt have direct access to it? |
ellabooz:That is Henry. This one na Charles. Dem be brother sha |
chukwudi44:Really? How many Lagos state senators endorsed Obanikoro in March 2015? |
Episteme2:There will still be 'take a bow' if there is former senator among the nominees. It is a senate rule. Ignore the gra-gra by those publicity seeking senators |
This ohabunwa of a man just wanted to grab his 5 minutes of fame and he has got it. Spewing thrash all over. At least he has been sufficiently tutored by Na'allah on his limits and the limits of the senate. If efcc is involved, their report at this stage will be allegations no matter how weighty. An accused is presumed innocent until the court decides otherwise. The precedence was laid in the past including clearance of Obanikoro by the senate just few months ago. Many governors stood and won re-election in 2007 despite efcc publicly listing them as corrupt at a presentation to the senate by ribadu. He should also realize that senate has only 3 weeks from the date of receipt of nomination to decide otherwise the president doesn't need their confirmation again [section 147(6)]. What does he think efcc will come up with in that time unless their files was already built up. If senate intend to reject any of the nominees, it better look for something political to hook on to, allegation of corruption at this stage may be too late. |
Eziachi:Very informed post. This is the basis of 'bow and go' policy which the senate rightly extended to former members of legislature who are nominated to ministerial positions. The only qualification required by section 147(5) of the constitution for ministerial post is that you must be qualified to be elected as a member of the House of Representatives. Nothing more. The screening is more of political showmanship. How do you effectively screen a person for a post when both the screener and the person being screened don't even know where the president is posting. |
dougivilla:I don't usually answer people who are close-minded. Section 130 made the president the chief executive in whom all the executive powers of the federation is vested. Ministers may only exercise part of the presidential powers which he delegates to them. Section 147 gives the president the power to create/scrap office of minister as he so wish. Section 147(6) gives senate only 3 weeks within which to either confirm/reject the nominee otherwise, the president will go ahead to fill such position. Section 148 says: "the president MAY, in his discretion, assign to the vice-president or any minister, responsibility for any business of the government including the administration of any department of government" I am not going to comment on these provisions or analyse them. Draw your conclusions. |
Is there any ethics for journalism in Nigeria? Every idiots will just have brainwave and start publishing their figment of imagination. It is only Nigerian media that will report a close door meeting between two persons and gleefully report the sitting arrangement, verbatim report of what was said by who, - even in quotes. |
Ernieman:It is you that is dabbling into what you don't know. Have you ever heard the list of ministers forwarded by any president containing their portfolio? The senate does not screen for specific position because nobody except the president knows where he wants to assign the nominees. After confirmation by the senate, they will be sworn in by president after which the president will direct the secretary to the government to issue them their appointment letters containing their respective ministry of postings. That is when the public and the senators will know who is for which ministry. He can assign, reassign or remove them just because they eye his wife wrongfully. |
I will rather believe this is from our dumb journalists not from our 'distinguished' senators. First of all, the constitution already confer on the president, the position of chief executive. All ministers hold positions at his pleasure. Second, the list he sends to the senate contains no portfolio. He has the discretion to assign or re-assign the minister any time. The senate will only confirm the nominees as minister. They won't know where they will be assigned. The constitution does not recognize any minister by position except the minister of justice. So the president can name 35 of them Minister without Portfolio (like in the first republic when some ministers were without portfolio) or the current nomenclature -Minister for Special Duties. Once he names the minister of justice, he is covered by law. Thirdly, Only the president is held accountable for executive functions by constitution. Ministers exercise only delegated presidential powers. He is the Chief Minister already and cannot be screened for a job which is already a part of his job content. |
The article talks of One Hyde Park (an upscale block of apartments in Hyde Park precinct) not Hyde park itself. The article writer only sarcastically said she should have bought the Hyde park itself for that amount. It is like you posting the picture of bar-beach just because somebody is alleged to buy a beach front apartment. |
OlujobaSamuel:The fact is that OBJ was still in power during the election, so there was no way Alams would have been cleared. Remember that even Atiku (whose case wasn't straight-forward jailing for corruption) that contested on the platform of ACN that year was unable to campaign because the Supreme Court didn't clear him until two days before the presidential election. |
chukwudi44:Was financial autonomy for National Assembly existing before the Constitution Amendment 2011 inserted it? Why did National Assembly go through the process of alteration of the constitution then to get it? Why did State assemblies reject financial autonomy for themselves during the process even though the bill already passed by National Assembly contained it before sending it to them for concurrence? Be informed (if you are not joking) that anything not in the constitution as at 29th of May 1999 that is to be subsequently inserted, modified, corrected, amended, removed, or annulled is an alteration to the constitution. National Assembly cannot by an Act confer immunity on its officials because it reduces the powers and juridiction which the constitution granted to the Judiciary which is a separate arm of government otherwise, the court will declare it unconstitutional and void. |
The proposal by the PDP minority leader is Dead On Arrival. This is a constitutional amendment. It requires two-third majority of the senate and the House of Representatives to scale the first hurdle. The second hurdle is that two-third majority of the members of house of assembly in at least 24 states must approve it. The third hurdle is that the President must assent to it. If you doubt presidential powers, revisit what president Jonathan did to the last constitutional amendments in May 2015 |
Ayohbk:So you believed that Alams nonsense. How would that be possible? Alams was jailed under Obj and was not pardoned till Obj left the government in May 2007. Elections took place in April 2007. How would Alams have qualified to stand election in that year? |
olatunji21:The vice-president was not at 'The Platform' in Lagos physically. They only played his recorded interview which was previously conducted to the audience on the screen. Channels Television actually aired the interview about an hour (while Utomi and Kukah were still answering questions at The Platform) before it was played to the platform's attendees. As for Saraki, Buhari had said in his interview on SaharaTV that he couldn't and wouldn't interfere with judicial process. He said his confidence in Saraki will depend on the outcome of the CCT case but he will and must for now continue to relate with him officially as the senate president. |
basilo101:Is this a childish analysis or usual chest beating? What the hell is ekwueme alliance? In 1979, shagari/NPN did not win the presidency based on igbo votes. Igbos rightly voted Azikiwe/NPP not shagari/NPN. Shagari only got votes from old Rivers and old cross-river states. Awolowo/UPN won in Bendel state. (Old Rivers, Cross-river and Bendel states constitute the present day south-south not south-east). In 1979, ekwueme was of no electoral value even in his local government. He had money but no pedigree in politics. C.C Onoh commanded more political clout in the old anambra's NPN than ekwueme. Onoh was the only one challenging Nwobodo then until shagari empowered okadigbo. |
Princess Diana engaged at less than 20 years and wedded on her 20th birthday to the crown prince of UK. If it rocks his boat, so be it. |
shadrach77:Which party HID belonged to? |
luchy34:The question you ask yourself is 'did el-rufai say so or just a figment of imagination of losers?' Which reputable newspaper reported it as news? See how posters are commenting on the purported agenda of today's meeting as if they read it from the Holy Books. Did APC issue any official agenda of today's meeting or Vanguard is just being mischievous? Read all today's dailies, each of them has different purported agenda for the meeting depending on what caught the fancy of their editors. The same el-Rufai was reported as having stroke some weeks ago just because he demolished some houses in his state. Misinformation everywhere. |
USAutoBuy:Close the Lamentations of Jeremiah. Open the Songs of Solomon. With all the infrastructure deficit you listed, people still celebrate Xmas, Easter, sallah, not to talk of other personal celebrations. Just rejoice with the ijebus. |
Nigerian journalists and their speculation. Thisday mischievously left out the fact that obasanjo met buhari in company of the UK ex prime minister Gordon. Was Gordon there to discuss ministerial nominations too? Abike Dabiri was listed as part of Buhari delegation right from Nigeria. How come Thisday reported her as piggybacking obasanjo to meet buhari at UN? |
jusRadical:At bolded. Just how much? Can you educate us? For your information, naira notes are regularly reprinted and changed. Emefiele assumed duty in June 2014, just a little over a year ago and ALL naira notes have been changed. Compare the signatories on your current naira notes with the ones under Sanusi for you to know. Ordinary internal posting of the Director of Currency Operations in the CBN will lead to reprinting of all naira notes because the signature must change. Furthermore, notes have life cycle and are regular recycled. It is such process that led to the reported multi-billion naira fraud in the CBN Ibadan branch. This is not to validate the report however. That is just the figment of the imagination of the writer. What made the exercise successful in 1984 was the element of surprise and utmost secrecy under which it was done. Do you think if Emefiele was briefed about such plan, he would disclosed it in such a way that the media would quote him? He won't have the opportunity of resigning, he will be fired. |
Koolking:Read and comprehend the original post again. Then do the needful |
Bayswater:Not from el-rufai personally. El-Rufai was the Chairman of the Sale of Federal Government Houses Committee during monetization period - 2004-2007 in OBJ regime. Saraki bought the federal government houses from the committee just like any other Nigerians. The issue is that if he bought the federal govt houses, he could not have got them before 2005 to have declared them as his assets in 2003 as he allegedly did. |
