PoliticsRe: Obasanjo Prostrates Before The Ooni Of Ife! by 2n2k(m): 3:58am On Feb 06, 2016
It is easy for obasanjo or any older persons to prostrate for ooni because by Yoruba tradition, it is deemed that you are prostrating to the throne which is higher than everyone else, not the person of the oba. Obasanjo was in Ife in private capacity. If he had been a sitting official of state, it will be odd to expect him to prostrate publicly.

The modern democratic equivalent at national level is the bowing before the mace in the legislative houses. Presidents do that. Clinton did that when he came to our National Assembly. It is deemed they are bowing to the sovereignty of the people.

For the guy quoting the bible verse that forbids bowing before kings. Really? Go to YouTube and watch the coronation of Queen Elizabeth in 1952. Right inside the church there, the bishops, nobles and princes queued up to bow, kneel and kiss the hand of the seating queen who was just 26 years old then. The oyinbos brought the bible and the religion to you.

PoliticsRe: Tinubu And Dokpesi Settle Libel Suit Out Of Court by 2n2k(m): 2:37pm On Feb 05, 2016
An updated version of the news:

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Friday withdrew the N150bn libel suit he filed against DAAR Communications Plc, the owner of African Independent Television.

Tinubu filed the suit last March in protest against a documentary titled ‘Lion of Bourdillon’ aired repeatedly on AIT in the build-up to the 2015 general elections.

The former Lagos State governor had, through his lawyer, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), claimed that the documentary was targeted at lessening him in the estimation of the public, to the effect that he corruptly enriched himself while in public office.

Justice Iyabode Akinkugbe, who presided over the case, had on April 1, last year, granted Tinubu an interlocutory injunction barring AIT from further airing ‘Lion of Bourdillon’ pending the determination of the suit.

The defendant, through its lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), had, however, maintained that it did not defame Tinubu, claiming that all the content of ‘Lion of Bourdillon’ was not false and had been in the public domain before they started airing the documentary.

In addition, DAAR Communications filed a counter-claim demanding N200bn as “aggravated, punitive and exemplary damages” from Tinubu, for what it termed damage to its corporate image.

But at the resumed hearing of the case on Friday, both lawyers informed the judge that their clients had settled the case out of court and prayed the court to adopt the terms of settlement they filed as the judgment of the court in the case.

Ozekhome said, “We are before My Lord this morning to do what the court has always encouraged litigants to do.

“We have come here today that every war that is fought is finally resolved at the round table.

“Parties have decided to settle amicably to enable both parties to continue with the good relationship that they have always had before the devil struck.”

Confirming the position, Olanipekun aligned himself with Ozekhome and urged the court to adopt the said settlement terms dated January 29, 2016.

Consequently, Justice Akinkugbe, in a short ruling, adopted the settlement terms as the judgment in the suit.

The judge said DAAR Communications Plc would publicly and unequivocally retract the said documentary “three times, once daily.”

She asked the defendant to tender an unreserved apology to Tinubu, “three times, one daily.”

She ordered them to withdraw their claims and counter-claims respectively and held that they would respectively bear the cost spent by them on the suit.

The terms of settlement was backed with a letter of apology, in which DAAR Communications begged Tinubu and described him as an “outstanding political leader of unblemished character and integrity” and prayed that he would live long “to make more enormous contributions to the advancement of our nation, Nigeria.”

The letter read in part, “DAAR Communications Plc acknowledges that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is an outstanding political leader of unblemished character and integrity, as well as a leading public figure and opinion-moulder, who has made and continuous make immense contributions to the progress and development of the nation in general and Lagos State in particular.

“DAAR Communications Plc admits that in airing the said documentary, it had no intention, whatsoever, to embarrass or diminish the high reputation of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu which it respects and attests to.”

The apology in bolded part must have been drafted by Tinubu himself.
PoliticsRe: Court Orders Arrest Of Temitope Aluko by 2n2k(m): 7:31pm On Feb 03, 2016
If the court ever found Aluko guilty of perjury, that means the court agrees it was misled to give wrong judgement in favour of Fayose. Note that his admission of collecting money from wherever is not perjury because evidence was never given by him to the contrary at the tribunal in the first place.

If per chance, he was roped with perjury and sentenced, Fayose rivals can also approach Supreme Court to revisit its judgement in the light of new information that shows it was misled in giving wrong judgement initially.

I concur with you especially given that Tinubu is what is called politically exposed person in risk analysis. Even though, the ooni may see it as a thank you visit (for whatever reasons), Tinubu has formidable rivals for leadership of the Yorubas especially from the Afenifere and Yoruba elders council.

Now that ooni has visited Tinubu for 'unity purpose', Afenifere will rightly expect him to visit their leader - Fasoranti in Akure too while the Yoruba elders leader will expect him in Ibadan otherwise the unity mission may become divisive.

Obasanjo did NOT pay for it as with most contracts he awarded in his eight WASTED years.
It was financed by Chinese loan which Obj negotiated but was initially jettisoned by Yardua govt before good reason prevailed.

Obj govt started the loan negotiation with Chinese in 2002 because the revenue available to his govt then was minimal. Oil was around $20 then. By 2006/2007 when the contract was eventually signed with the Chinese, oil was around $50/60 but he was committed to other projects by then and didn't see the reason not to allow the loan financing to go ahead. Yardua that took over in 2007 thought differently and suspended the contract.

GEJ reinstated the contract with the loan financing even with oil price at over $110.

No need gloating. Let us just thank God that the project was delivered by whoever govt.
TravelRe: Nigeria’s First Ever High-speed Rail Is Finally Here by 2n2k(m): 3:40pm On Jan 26, 2016
It should be noted that Obj govt awarded this contract in the twilight of his regime. When Yar'adua took over in May 2007, he suspended/cancelled the contract just like he did to many contracts - power, privatization, etc that Obj awarded late in his regime.

GEJ dusted the contract up later and that was principally responsible for missing the target completion date.

By the way, it is just a standard gauge railway, not high speed one

It was 3days to my wedding in Dec 2015, my head was fully occupied fixing 1 thing or the other for the white wedding to be successful, I went to buy some stuffs in a store of some 1 I know casually, I was offered a seat, even spend like 15minutes with the guy jisting 1 thing or the other... On getting up to go I forgot to carry my Blackberry porsche 9983 (which was only 2 weeks old) which I kept on a table close to where I sat... I enter my car and zoom off,

Fast foward to the time I discovered my handset wasn't with me, I went back to the guys shop, the guy wasn't in the shop only his boy, the boy said his oga just left he'll travel to a near bye town,, I collected his number and ring him, he picked it when I ask him about the handset he said he didn't see anything like that himself also left immediately I left... I said no Problem I left...

I have to rush and go and do a welcome back and I bought another handset and it was activated immediately.

I know that I have already configured an antitheft security in the handset using NetQin Security soft ware in such a way that if u put a different sim other than the sim I configured it with, the antitheft soft ware will immediately send an sms to my wife's number using the number of the foreing sim inserted in to the handset....

I called my wife to be and told her the story so she should expect an sms from the sim that they may likely put inside the handset... Lo and behold the big fool put a sim inside the hanset the following day, then there was no truecaller app for you to know who the person is... I decided not to call the number in order not to make him suspect that I'll soon get him.

I decided to trick him to bring himself by himself... Then I had an account with a customised sms website that I used to send wedding invitation for my wedding...
I decided to send an sms to the number using the name "Speedpost" as the sender, and the content of the massage thus "the owner of this number 080_ _ _ _ should go to the speedpost office @ the town post office and collect a percel from mtn Note. Its Free no any single charge on it" Just a Thank you gift from mtn... U can reach the post master @ 080_ _ _ " I put my wife's number as the post master..

In less than 5 minutes he called my wife's number that he got the massage from them, so my wife told him that she needs his details, the big fool send her in a text his full name, home and address and even other numbers... Now that its evident that I caught the thief, I went straight to his wife and told her the whole story... I told her I promise her I won't tell any 1 if he can silently send me back my handset... But if he wants to be Stubborn I will involve the police of which I know she wouldn't like...

With no any argument my handset was back in less than 6 hours...

Ahah Take it easy on these guys, the problem is most of them are just plain lazy to read and educate themselves, they still wont go and read up the meaning of stamp duty
for those still in the dark a STAMP DUTY simply is*** a duty levied on the legal recognition of certain documents** in this case acknowledgement of receipt of funds unto your current account, hence 2n2k gave an example of carrying stamps on receipts. But 2n2k I don't think there will be a physical stamp we have past that stage though.
My gripe is with people whose knowledge is not up to one yet still dividing it into two. Can you imagine.

As for physical adhesive stamp to be affixed by traders. Yes there will be. Pre-printed documents with 'stamp duty paid' emblem can only be done by government and security printers. Traders do not print their invoices and receipts in those sources. Also only authorized offices of stamp duties can put the embossed stamp duty dies (those red stamp dies you see on registered legal documents). Traders cannot be shuttling stamp duties offices just to legalize N2,000 transaction with a N50 stamp duty dies

In order to address this and ease the collection of stamp duties, Sections 11 to 13 of the Stamp Duties Act CAP. 441 LFN 1990, stipulate the procedure for the use of adhesive postage stamps by general traders as well penalty for failure.
PoliticsRe: Why The N50 Charge By Fg Is Corruption In Itself by 2n2k(m): 12:07am On Jan 21, 2016
@ OP, your post reek of ignorance and deceit.

You claimed that stamp duty is illegal in banking transactions. Have you read stamp duties act at all? Study the picture of the cheques below in case you don't operate current account and tell us what does 'stamp duty paid' written in circle round the coat of arm on the cheques mean.
What just happened since around early 90s was that banks stopped collecting/remitting stamp duty in contravention of the laws with impunity.

You should get a copy of any version of Stamp duties Act as amended or re-enacted since 1900 to date to read and purge yourself of ignorance.

On your deceitful claim of having read the whole budget document without seeing revenue from stamp duties in it. Really? Currently in Nigeria, there are very few registrable legal commercial documents that do not require assessment and collection of stamp duties by the Commissioner of Stamp Duties - be it, share capital registration, bonds and debentures, deeds of assignment, power of attorney, deeds of mortgage, power of administration etc. so where are the revenue from these captured? Office of the Commissioner of Stamp Duties was created even before Nigeria was amalgamated. (See a 1908 official document picture below).

For your education, the next step to be implemented (it is in the stamp duties law already) is that all commercial receipts must bear at least N50 postage stamp. So if your buy a phone from Okey shop at ikeja along, he must affixed the stamp on the receipt and sign across it. So get ready to carry your ignorant fight to the United Nations.

BusinessRe: N50 Stamp Duty Imposed On Bank Customers By FG by 2n2k(m): 5:01am On Jan 20, 2016
The problem with Nigeria is impunity - by government and citizens alike. You make laws, you ignore its implementation.

Stamp Duties law had been in Nigeria even before independence but because of free oil money, nobody cares yet every gala seller will be saying it is his money/tax that is being used for development.

If you look at your cheque leaflet, you will see already pre-printed on it "Stamp Duty Paid". That is in compliance with the stamp duties act of 1929 or thereabout. Have you ever asked who paid the stamp duty and when, since you the owner of the cheque was not charged? The simple fact is that banks just stopped collecting/remitting because govt/NIPOST went to sleep.

Have you noticed that commercial receipts or simple agreement papers issued up to early 1980s carried postage stamps? The stamp pasted on it was not to post the receipt but payment of stamp duties?

The govt tried to revive this by re-enacting the Stamp Duties Act in 2009. The law was signed but nobody implemented it which made some people to approach the court to force implementation in 2013, even with the court ruling, the GEJ govt would rather want to wait for the outcome of the consultancy it awarded to Mcsancy on how to boost revenue from FIRS before implementing its own law.

The action of the cbn is just the first step in implementing the 2009 Act. The next step is for NIPOST to wake up and implement the payment of stamp duties on all eligible commercial transactions done in Nigeria. The 2009 Act requires pasting of at least N50 on any receipt issued for commercial transaction that exceed the threshold. Now that e-commerce is rampart, NIPOST should be pro-active on the manner in which it can collect the duties from the e-merchants.

Laws are laws. Even bad laws are laws which must be implemented until repealed. Almost all the countries in the world have stamp duties laws. This is not a matter to wail about.

When I first saw the live transmission of "Energy Group 5th GMD Conference" on both NTA and AIT this morning, I thought it was an NNPC program and was wondering why it should be Jimoh Ibrahim that should be invited to deliver the first address. I noticed how the participants were fearfully answering any questions put to them by Jimoh. I had to sit down to know the reason why oil workers should fear Jimoh. Then I realised it was just an internal 'meeting' with his staff that was being broadcast live on not one but two national television networks!

If not for misplacement of priorities, Nicon Insurance, Nigerian Reinsurance, Air Nigeria, Newswatch, National Mirror, Energy Oil/Global fleet, etc that make up the group are all down with Nicon Luxury Hotel and Energy Bank (Ghana) barely surviving; yet he is spending money to transmit inconsequential meeting on two major tv networks for hours on end.

With the way those 'staff' gained entry with siren blowing and his initial reaction to them - shouting that they have the right to protest, I felt it was stage-managed by him just to play the role of big daddy on television by promising to pay them from his pocket
PoliticsRe: EFCC Seals Mega Building At Wuse 2, Abuja (pictures) by 2n2k(m): 8:44am On Jan 17, 2016
The action of EFCC is targeted at the landlord not the tenants. The tenants including GTB can and will still continue to transact their businesses.

It is a sort of Caveat Emptor to prevent the suspect (landlord) from clandestinely dispose off the property to unsuspecting buyers when he knows he is under investigation.

In 2005, EFCC put a notice like this on Russell Centre in Abuja (now Febson Mall) while investigating that huge Brazil 419 case, but tenants continued their their businesses. The same happened to the property housing the FCMB at Gimbiya street in Abuja during the PTDF fraud investigations in 2007. The bank's operations were not disrupted on account of that.

It was officially called NET building up to mid 80s. It was the headquarters of the Nigerian External Telecomunications (NET) responsible for international Telecomunications through SAT3 at that time.

Until the restructuring in 1985, Post and Telegraphs (P&T) was responsible for postal services and domestic (internal) telephony. On restructuring, internal and external telecomunications were merged to form Nigeria Telecomunications (NITEL) while the postal services now stand alone as Nigeria Postal Services (NIPOST).

NET building was later renamed NECOM house

ohimai83:
if only there was a way to move your post to front page. Very clear explanation... But I have one question: Who does the delivery? is it Konga or the supplier?
It all depends. If they adopt Amazon model, for very few fast moving stock that they may keep, they will do the delivery themselves through their courier. On Amazon, such orders are marked "Order fulfilled by Amazon" on their website when you are placing the order.

Where it is a non-stock order (which actually should constitute the bulk of their business), the name(s) of the supplier(s) that will fulfill the order will be indicated. In fact you can have different suppliers with different prices for the same good. In such case, the supplier will deliver direct to you. The package may carry Konga label which had already been pre-provided to the suppliers. The supplier must inform Konga of every steps taken on the order like when it ships, delivered, etc. All mails from the supplier to you must be copied to Konga and your replies too will automatically be copied to Konga for coordination purpose. The supplier will only be settled when evidence of delivery is tendered to Konga.

Note that the explanation above is based on 'Market Place' model which Konga wants to adopt as opposed to its previous 'e-tailer' (derived from Electronic reTAILER) model where it handled almost all orders deliveries directly.
CareerRe: Konga Lays Off 10% Of Its Staff by 2n2k(m): 4:00am On Jan 16, 2016
People should understand concepts before commenting. Konga's case has nothing to do with PMB or GEJ. It simply changed its model from being an 'e-tailer' to a 'market place'. The two models require different number and level of staffing.

In simple term, if I built a very big warehouse and stock it with different goods which I purchased from other suppliers for onward selling online to my own customers online (e-tailer), I will surely need higher numbers and level of staff than if I set up a small technology based company that just link those suppliers online directly to my customers. I will just serve as a clearing house - my customers will still have the impression that they are dealing with me, but they will be served by the suppliers. I may of course, maintain a very small warehouse to stock fast moving goods but the bulk of my business will just be paperwork required for co-ordination.

@ BIGTinfotech

The charging of delivery fee for each item you purchased at the same time which you complained about is because of change in business model that I explained above. You were actually served by different suppliers from different locations while konga just coordinated. Konga neither handled nor saw those goods. It would just make payments to those suppliers when there is evidence of delivery to you unlike before when the goods would be delivered to konga and konga consolidate and package them for delivery to you.

In the past, cost was more than pump price, that was why we had subsidy from government. From January 2016, pump prices will be higher than cost - 9 kobo in nnpc stations and 21 kobo in other stations, so consumers will be subsidizing govt.

Anyway, government has successfully substituted the word 'subsidy' with a more politically correct - 'price modulation'.

Government is the one putting itself in trouble with this so-called labour union. They are private companies, they should be left to handle their pricing subject to regulations.

The prices of electric cables and fittings that I buy from 'OkeyGod International' were jerked up by 30% last week just because he heard that dollar exchange rate has gone up to N280.
