Sports / Re: Should Siasia Be Sacked Or Not by 2tait: 12:21pm On Oct 09, 2011
Samson Siasia cannot be exonerated from blame in the ouster of Nigeria from qualifying for the Nations cup in january 2012. Is it the lacklustre approach to the game, the technical flaws that were evident, the woeful performance of Aiyenugba, the non-inclusion of Enyeama, the unguarded boasts of Siasia before the game that Guinea will fall in Nigeria, etc. As head coach Siasia did not deliver! However, it has become an experience for him. Let's hope he learnt something from the experience.
Poems For Review / Abuja - A Poem by 2tait: 10:27am On Jun 21, 2011
Abuja

A city of a thousand hills
Resplendent in beauty
Symbol of a nation's unity
The centre of its glory

Basked in the morning light
A vision to behold
Cuddled, the topography
Landscape so alluring

A city of a thousand gardens
Celebrated for its grandeur hangouts
The skyline, ever bright
You will find your place

Protected by smouldering rocks
Great and small, ever serene
Concealing the opulence
And might of its power brokers

A city of a thousand networks
Passageways and connections
An undulating cityscape
Where networking has become an art

Politics / Re: Who Knows The Origin Of "naija"? by 2tait: 5:35pm On May 01, 2011
some one suggested that the slang "naija" was originated by nigerian students in UK in the early 50's /60's as a way of identifying fellow nigerians without attracting the attention of other foreigners/whites. in the same way as "smoke" was used to refer to the police. maybe someone can reconfirm this.

Politics / Re: Lagos Alerts Residents On Possible Rise In Water Levels ! by 2tait: 7:53pm On Sep 03, 2010
It is one thing for Government to alert Lagosians.
It is another thing for Government to act and ensure something is done about it.
Lagos State Government should use something like the Ecological Fund to put in place adequate emergency response initiatives.
We should not wait for disaster to happen before the Government or indeed Lagosians begin to do something.
Now is the time to act. Alerting Lagosians is not enough.
Politics / 12 Reasons Why Goodluck Jonathan Must Contest In 2011 by 2tait: 3:01pm On Aug 18, 2010
There have been some controversy on whether Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ) should run for  the office of the President in 2011. There have also been rumours that he is about to take a decision on whether to run or not. This piece has articulated 12 reasons why Nigerians should compel GEJ to contest.

Reason 1

There is work to be done to move the nation forward. GEJ has started laying the foundation and should be encouraged to aspire to complete them. Those projects or visions should not be abandoned.

Reason 2

GEJ is the incumbent President albeit an inheritance of his joint ticket with Late President Yar Adua. He deserves the right to aspire to complete the second term of the joint mandate.

Reason 3

The Ruling PDP has effectively cleared the way for him to contest the presidential primaries, hence he should not back out.

Reason 4

Time is too short to assess and groom an outsider for the important position of presidency. The election is expected to hold early next year (most likely January 2011) hence too short for an unprepared candidate to assume the mantle of leadership only to lead us through another round of rigmarole. GEJ has already started implementing a vision.

Reason 5

The international community has endorsed his presidency notably USA, Ecowas, etc. We recall how he was warmly embraced by President Barak Obama. He has quickly resolved the underwear bomber incidence and returned dignity to Nigeria and her citizens.

Reason 6

Countries of great means are courting him, making it easier for him to attract the much needed foreign investment into the country.

Reason 7

He is qualified to run, having met all the requirements for the presidency under the Nigerian law. He does not seem to carry any baggage or skeleton in his cupboard.

Reason 8

A decision by GEJ not to run will not prove anything and does not showcase him as a statesman.  On the contrary such a decision will affect the psyche of the Niger Deltans and indeed all well meaning Nigerians. Hence, he should not waste the opportunity to contest. Nigeria will not disintegrate if he contests.

Reason 9

Nigeria will benefit greatly from his presidency if he wins. For instance, there will be continuity for his three point focus area (credible polls, power and Niger Delta reforms)
These are crucial for the nation's development and should not be abandoned.

Reason 10

His running for the presidency will provide Nigeria with an opportunity to entrench the culture and belief that anybody (Nigerian) irrespective of tribe and affiliation can aspire and actually become the president of Nigeria. This will enhance unity, patriotism and encourage the younger generation to believe more in the Nigerian state.

Reason 11

GEJ is level headed and does not seem to have undue attachment to any godfathers or cabal, hence no hindrances for him to provide the much needed good governance
His performance so far in office gives a clear indication of the direction of his government. The roadmap is also clear.

Reason 12

His running is consistent with the constitution of Nigeria and does not contravene PDP's zoning arrangement and national balance. The PDP recognises the right of an incumbent to seek re-election. By running, GEJ will be seeking the mandate of the nation to complete the Yar Adua/Jonathan dispensation.

Let Nigerians encourage Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to run for the Presidency, to provide a real opportunity for Nigerians to elect their president in 2011.

Every change begins with a vision and a decision to take action. GEJ should take action now!

Politics / Multiple Taxation By Local Govt by 2tait: 2:59pm On Mar 12, 2010
I have observed all manner of levies and taxes being collected by different local governments from happles individuals and companies
.
It has become common to receive all kinds of demand notes from local governments aking for one funny levy or the other. They have levies for fencing your compound, levies for radio, levies for television, levies for generators, levies for stickers, development levy, environmental levies ( i understand environmental levies cover the fumes coming out from cars ) etc. These local government can levy you for anything. In Lagos for instance I also understand that there is levy for every bottle of beer you drink. This is not VAT oh. Haba. I wonder what the Joint Tax Board is doing?
Literature / Re: Pause: (poem :pls Read And Criticise) by 2tait: 1:14pm On Mar 12, 2010
It is only the author that knows what he/she wants to convey in a poem, so ultimately you are the best critic of your poem.

Having said that I suggest you change the title to "pause and play".

I guess from the way you concluded the poem that you intended to create a suspense.

The poem also contained some contradictions e.g.
"I do not want anything from you, All I want is , "
But then you can explain that as style.

Good work Goodie. Keep writing
Literature / Re: What Is The Difference Between Motivational And Inspirational? by 2tait: 12:47pm On Mar 12, 2010
Difficult to differentiate.

Motivational books encourage, push or drive you to re-discover yourself or improve or act.

Inspirational books aim at generating an idea or ideas that you can act on.

Properties / Real Estate: How Fashola Underdevelops Lagos by 2tait: 5:37pm On Mar 01, 2010
Much has been said about the great things Gov Fashola has been doing in Lagos especially in the area of road infrastructure and parks.

However, Fashola needs to look at the issue of excessive charges on land and property.
Thse charges are damn excessive and usually come in multiple forms. Lagos has been reputed as getting the bulk of its internally generated revenue by taxing land users and developers excessively.

My concern is that these charges prevent people from buying and developing their lands thereby running counter to efforts to improve housing delivery. Lagos is under-housed, hence it is expected that Lagos State Govt should encourage developers and land owners. There are issues with multiple taxation. There are issues with land charges. There are issues with building plan permits and approvals etc.

These issues actually underdevelop Lagos and Fashola should do something positive to address them.
Travel / Tankers Blocking Airport -apapa-oshodi Link Road by 2tait: 5:29pm On Mar 01, 2010
Over the past few months, motorists plying the link road between international airport road and apapa oshodi expressway have been facing real hell. This site is opposite Rutam House (Guardian Newspaper) and near DHL/PZ.

Recently hundreds of petroluem products tankers have either been parking or lining up on that route, thereby preventing other road users from plying the route and in the process creating unnecessary traffic snarl.

Investigation revealed that MRS recently acquired the space for their tanker park.
I think it is high time that agencies like LASTMA, FRSC move to the scene and effect the much needed decorum on that route.
