You're shallow minded sis, what's the difference between an HND holder and BSc holder if not that one is practical oriented and the latter is theory based. If you have said OND is equivalent to (which of ofcourse is not), it would have still made a little sense.

The way we down grade academic pursuit in this part of the world is alarmingly worrisome; well, I blame our government for the disparity anyway.
My dear, you that's with HND is the shallow minded individual 'cause you've failed to realize that the certificate you carry places a cap on you.

You should continue with your business while you make plans to go back to school.
Like you said, the money you have once you register for school will not be enough to do any business again.
What I will advise is that you continue with growing your business and defer going for HND for like a year.See how things turn out and decide if you can combine the two later.
As for travelling out, shelve the idea for now.I really don't what jobs are in Dubai.I know the men do odd jobs mainly while the ladies are often escorts. You can travel out much later if that is what you really yearn for but I don't think that is your first option now.
I commend your hardworking spirit as a lady and you not sewing men as a meal ticket.

Dunno how to advice people sha ...

I only ask them salient questions

---what's waiting for you overseas?

----what's waiting for you at the end of your degree program?

----What's your biz giving you right now? And what do you see it giving 1 year from now?

As for Husband, anyone can have that , ordinary morning jog, working at ur duty desk evening stroll anywhere in the world n u meet a guy(or girl Lols) u connect with n the rest is history .

After answering the above questions, Advice yourself ...

Good afternoon everyone here. I have been an ardent of this forum so, I felt it wouldn't be bad to bare my heart here as I know I'd surely get an advice that will make me see clearer. Please bear with me as I am not very perfect when it comes to expressing my self in writing. Pls pardon my write-up should you see it as too long. I just want to bare it all so one can know what to tell me. Thanks.
My Name is Amanda. I lost my parents when I was sixteen . I am from a family of five. I was about to sit for WAEC before the sudden demise of my parents. I had to drop out of school cus I couldn't pay bills and my older siblings were still struggling, so I got a job. I worked as a cleaner say for 2 years and I was able to save up something and enrolled for WAEC AND GCE and I passed. I tried my first admission it didn't so the second year someone told me to try a Polytechnic and fortunately I got admitted. I joined school but I kept working and I saved up some bucks and at the end of my ND at federal poly Auchi my G. P was 3.40 yes! I cried for joy.
I. T (Industrial Training) started and I felt it would make more sense If I could start something little within my environment. Since I knew a lot about female bags and wears I held on to the idea and started. My customer base grew as I went from department to department showing and convincing the "big girls" in school about my goods. I approached just anybody so long you female. I kept moving at that pace until I was heavily sought after. My room became my boutique.
Why I am confused now
All glory to God I have been able to establish a good relationship with people who sale to me on credit which allows me own varieties and sell more.
1. Not to exaggerate, I make a minimum of 40 to 45k a month as my own.
2. I ain't rich but I think I am comfortable for a young lady of my age. I will be 24 3rd October.
I focused more on my business and I didn't join my mates for the HND session. My reason was; after school now, I go carry certificate they Waka up and down. Make I kuku use this small money wey I don save use am run my business first as I thought school can wait. could I be wrong?

# I have a course mate who traveled overseas after our ND and she has been encouraging me to come over since I could afford the travel expenses (not to lie, I was considering this also which made me forget going back for my HND.)
Now my question is if you were me would you go back to school? I am of the opinion that schooling in Nigeria without a good back up could leave me frustrated after graduation. No job.
# if you were me would you just continue with your business and open up a shop or would you travel out, get a job and go to school there?
Pls advice Me as I would be turning 24 in no time and I am JUST CONFUSED embarassed I have the feeling that any decision I make at this point would either make or destroy me permanently. Pls help a sister embarassed
Should I go back to school? cus my dad always wanted me to get an education but I feel I should be able to know what works as times have changed.

I know a lot of poeple have given you good advice.

You r a smark girl.

Seek the Holy Spirit guidian.

Dont go for HND. Go for BSc, any University will take you (direct entry) with your ND grade. Apply to a recorgnize University.

Continue your business.

Travelling abroad is good. Ladies could be more lucky, but i wont advise you to travel.

Let the Holy spirit guide you.

All the best.

That's the reason I said most advice she gets here base on personal experience how can some equate HND to SSCE?
It's totally not her fault, I blame the dichotomy of HND and Bsc on the part of Federal Government, assuming both holders take the same pay cheque home every month and the discrimination in Civil Service and the Private Sector is not pronounced, she wouldn't open her cavity to carpet HND holders the way she just did.

Firstly, let me commend ur strong drive for success, its highly motivating .many girls in ur situation will just settle and become slaves to men.

My advice is that you weigh ur business and its level of growth in the school environment, since u started off in school and u made reasonable gain.my first suggestion is that u consider the possibility of going for HND and still keep up with ur business, if u can still manage ur time ,maybe expand a bit, I mean make more sales to put up with expenses then this will be the best option as u will end up killing two birds with one stone .As for not getting a job after school, my dear, that's the mindset of lazy minded people, u don't necessary have to work for anybody as a graduate. The step u took by selling stuffs to support your education is already preparing you into being your own boss.

If you think the proceed of your business will not be enough to carter for ur HND wen u finally enroll and u don't have the capacity to expand, then I'll advice you just build ur business straight away and forget about HND for now,you can always go back to school anytime in the future.

Lastly, take away the thoughts of travelling abroad for now, work on what you have at ha d now. u know what they say about a bird at hand ......

I really don't advice people like that but I like to read people's stories and at least learn one or two things about life. I'm currently doing masters tho and one of my professors usually tell us that anything without money is shit and from what I know, I think u should focus more on growing ur biz and widening your range and soon you will be getting married, someone like me for example wants to marry someone that is well to do and independent as I cherish hard work even tho I believe with the money, I still have to spoil my wife so much. you sure will make it babe, God bless you

How trustworthy is this friend of yours? Many young girls have been lured into traps because of desperation to go abroad.
Unless you have legitimate reasons for coming to a country, foreign embassies will not issue you with the necessary travel documents. Also, I hope your friend isn't trying to talk you into life as an illegal migrant because you will regret being one.
My advice to you is to prioritise education. At 24 you're still quite young and time is actually on your side. When eventually you do decide to go abroad, having a good degree certificate in your hands will actually make things a lot easier for you.
, which country is your friend talking about (1), what does he/she does over there (2), my dear on 6th of this month (oct) will make it a year I returned back from dubai. I had a job paying me up to 200k, but I had to leave it and come back home, why?(1) working conditions, (2) opportunity to save,((3)cost & conditions of living, ,(4) freedom E.t.c.,i swore to burn my passport, than for me to ever travel abroad again on hustling (work)ground.Pls, sis. Now I managed my own business (though I had it on b4 I travelled out & was been managed by my younger sister)where I earn up to double or even more as to what I was been paid over there.so dear,i will better advice you ,make sure you know what you going there to do, weigh, measure ,compare what you are doing now at hand and what you are been offered over there b4 you make you final decision.as for me oo, abroad and me it's, ,,,,,thy Kingdom come.except only on vacation. Am sure she has never seen the fore walls of a polytechnic. It was not until I interviewed one First class graduate of a prominent Nigerian university that I knew why most University grads were unemployable.

Don't take my post personal. My point is, she should further to get a higher playing field than her fellow HND holders. I never said I'm better 'cause anyone with common sense will know that OND/HND in Nigerian labour market is equivalent to SSCE though you might think it's better.
And you actually believe that you have made sense comparing HND to SSCE ... What do you know about the labour market?

So you mean to tell me that assuming he had BSc, he won't still do ICAN or he won't probably continue with his education according to your analogy.

Do you know getting an HND or Bsc is a means to an end and not the end itself, a Master or a PhD holder can as well look down on a Bsc holder you know, I rest my case.

Pls I am open to any form of advice. God bless.
Cc. Lalasticlala, seun or any mod. I'd appreciate if you can move it to the right section or where it could get a wider view. Thanks

You're telling me about being myopic but obviously you're the myopic one who can't see beyond his nose. No wonder when some people get polytechnic admission they jubilate like they were given admision into one of the IV League universities in Nigeria. grin Funny enough, you don't know a cap is placed on you. Do/did the children of your lecturers attend the same school as you do/did?. The answer is NO 'cause they know it's a waste of their precious time.

kai, mynd44 where are you.Come and ban this gal abeg....

Please, just continue your biz and enrol for part time for your HND. Forget about traveling because you have something you are doing already. Build on your business and the sky will be your starting point in no time.
Yes, I said this because my story was almost the same as yours though I still have my parents but they couldn't send us beyond secondary school.
One of the best decisions I have made in my life is not going for full time at my undergraduate level. Doing full-time when you don't have a sponsor especially outside later is like going through hell fire.
Long story short.. I did part-time at my undergraduate level, did my professional exams as well while I was running my own business. Money was not an issue.
Today I have MSc from a university in UK fully sponsored by myself. Everything in life is all about time.
Please, face your biz and forget about traveling for now. It's not greener outside these days traveling without a good plan.
Enjoy!!!

And I used to respect you but you just proved to me how retar'ded you are.

Even the OP with National Diploma is highly productive and she's already taking a life changing decision while you sit your ass down in the romance section all night and day.

I pity you
Cry me a river. grin You must be mistaking me for yourself who seats his ass on romance section all day chasing shadows.

Thank you o.
Am sure she has never seen the fore walls of a polytechnic. It was not until I interviewed one First class graduate of a prominent Nigerian university that I knew why most University grads were unemployable.

She doesn't know what she's saying, if not she won't spew those gibberish she called opinion. She's all for the paper degree if at all she set eyes on the wall of the classroom in the first place like you said.
