simplycarro: Whoever bought Nitel did Nigeria a favor. What do you think Nitel would have become as we speak? Where is Nipost? How many letters have you received from them? Can you dare to send an important docunment to someone using Nipost? How much are they bringing into the purse? How much are they stealing ? The money realized from the sales of these government companies if not embezzled is far better than keeping a company that will remain unproductive and be an instrument of more and more corruption. We keep talking like anything works in this country. We have a problem of high level and unprecedented corruption in this almost God forsaken country. Tell me one thing that you can be proud of as a Nigerian? One thing you can point your finger to and say this is working? One government run establishment that is functioning optimally? None, Nothing, absolutely nothing. Nothing is working in Nigeria. The only way to get Nigeria to attempt to work again is to overhaul the damn country. You can't stop nigerians from being corrupt, you can only close avenues for people to execute corrupt practices. More money has been stolen from NNPC than has been realized by the government. And it will continue like that until the end of time. A 10% ownership of ioc run NNPC will be more profitable to the Nigerian people than this crap we have. Saudi Aramco though about 90% government owned is the most profitable company in the whole wide world for God's sake. NNPC should be at least 10% as profitable as that company but what do we have? A company consistently run by charlatans who are put there to do the presidents bidding, a board assembled by the president as political settlement. Staff strength assembled on quota system and anointing of the powers that be, how can anything run like that work? If Nigeria can realize $100b from the sale of NNPC, that money, even if 50% is embezzled, can increase our power generation by 100% and close major infrastructural gaps and get things working. On top of that, in the near future, the 10% stake of government would give the country more profit than the 100% stake us giving now. 4 Likes |

dokie:Selling NNPC is not the problem, but selling it to their cronies who will pay little or nothing at the detriment of the 180m Nigerians. Selling NEPA was not the problem. The problem began when it was sold to their party loyalists who didn't invest in the business, hence the reason you have not seen any serious improvement in the power system. Don't be fooled with Atikulooting. The reason Nitel died was simply because it was not sold to the right investors who are genuinely ready for the business.Same will be the faith of NNPC . 3 Likes |

vineyardfarms: All these things you mentioned are good if only it is possible. But the truth is that in Nigeria, it is not. Corruption will not allow these things to happen. Our problem is corruption (theft, nepotism, tribalism, unpatriotism, quota system). These are the reasons government agencies don't work in Nigeria and you can't get rid of these things. But you don't see it in privately run companies. What is obtainable there is meritocracy and things work. 3 Likes |

lereinter:You obviously don't get it. Privatizing those companies was never the problem. Most of them were undersold, the proceeds from the sale was never used to ADEQUATELY settle the ex-staff, they were grossly under paid while most of the money were embezzled by Atiku and his friends. Also he sold them to himself and friends... That is where the problem is. Atiku is stinkingly corrupt. Obasanjo was right about how he described Atiku in his book. How he later changed his mind to begin resupporting him is beyond me. 2 Likes |

Afamed: Nitel did not have the infrastructure to compete in the present telecom industry. Whoever bought Nitel bought name and buildings and the gateway in Enugu which I don't know it's purpose. The person just bought gbese for himself. The real issue just like you said is who do they sell it to? I sincerely do not trust Atiku to say he will be very prudent and sincere with the process but look the worst thing we can do as a country is to maintain status qou. I am willing to try anything and everything because there is nothing to lose. Every indices is clearly saying that Nigeria is on the ground, so why do we fear a fall? 5 Likes |

chemK: I disagree with that completely. NEPA was a hopelessly hopeless organization. If we still had NEPA today, we would not have had up to 2000mw. Look the only thing left for these discos to work effectively is for the government to give a timeline to end estimated billing, and do their part in the transmission part. Do you know that of the 3 arms of the current power structure (Genco, Transmission, and Disco) it is the one with government involvement (transmission) that is the problem. Disco matter is a piece if cake. A legislation that will end estimated billing will end discos inefficiencies. 2 Likes |

erinalex: Do you think buhari planned to be as useless as this as a president? The structure does not allow for performance simple. Coupled with old age, lack of exposure, bad health and a high-level of nepotism buharis case became worse. Under the present structure of Nigeria no body can make any significant difference. 1 Like |

dokie:if you agree that our major problem is the structural deficiency, then before anything else,I say anything else; before any selling or buying of Nigeria properties; The existing structure must, as a matter of urgency be Restructuring; without doing that 1st, any buying and selling by Nigeria government will ultimately suffer the same early fate. 1 Like |

Babygiwa:was it a bad idea? The problem of Nigeria is that we are busy paying salaries to non productive individuals. Go check the steel industry, refineries, etc. Those guys are not contributing anything to the economy but they are still paid with promotions. What's the point of keeping them? But if you privatise, it will surely work and people gets paid for their work. 1 Like |

i dont agree with your analysis. fashola said it several times that discos reject power transmitted to them. These discos are just there to enrich themselves at the expense of the masses. They were supposed to upgrade their infrastructures when the bought it or are you saying they were not aware of what they were buying? They are waiting for Government to bail them out as usual. dokie: 1 Like |

dokie:And you didn't know selling any government institution is for the new investors to inject fresh money into it so it can become more functional and effective. Today you are in Nkporkiti junction blaming the federal government for poor power supply. But you have forgotten the past administration has sold the power company to their PDP loyalists who have refused to invest in the power sector. Most of you are your No 1 enemy. Abi what are the natural resources in the defunct Nitel offices /land that attracted to the buyer? The sold of the Nitel was not done in good intention. Hence the reason ,Nitel is in comatose. When Govt establishment is sold, the aim is for the new investors to improve the quality of the service by injecting fresh ideals and capital in order to serve the people. PDP and Atiku have those his history of underselling the National property to their friends and family. 2 Likes |

In other words, the govt should sell off all its institutions so that all becomes private which in turn makes it more efficient. Now ask yourself this, can everyone in Nigeria afford private institutions? According to u, all schools, hospitals, roads etc should be private. If this should be the case then why should we even have a govt? Again as yourself, if buhari were to be the one saying this, will that help convince you to vote for him? Also the so called advance countries do have public institutions (not schools only) to check the private ones. Every where in world, anything private is more expensive than public and yes more efficient also. Public is more of a mass production to make it affordable for the less privileged. Take for example private schools and public schools. Most university's in the US if not all are funded my the school itself no govt intervention hence the high tuition fee, replicate this is in Nigeria and see how many people will dropout. From your logic, then it simply true when some governors in Nigeria said education is not for everybody. What I'm trying to say is this, the govt don't have to sell everything, this is the essence of having a govt in the first place. dokie: 3 Likes |

signz:Lmao. Look at you. I'm in ssupport of free enterprise but I can not support the sale of NNPC now because it is clear that its sale would be for greed. Atiku & his co politician thieves would be scrambling for pieces of it. They would just make small money off sale of crude and those million dollar sums that were hitherto small for the nation needs would become large sums in the hands of a few individuals. That FG is still holding onto Transmission & Generation is what is saving our power sector. Before in previous govts, generation used to be as huge problem and the gap was glaring. But now, these your private Discos can't even keep up to distribute half of the amount generated. And, market forces are currently determining the price of electricity its just that like the Discos, you're angry that the current govt is living up to its billing to effectively regulate the sector and putting a cap on their inefficiency and incompteence which is costing the Discos a lot that they so much want to push the cost of this incompetence onto their consumers. 1 Like |

HisMajesty1: This is wrong first how do quantify undersold, do u know any higher bidder that it was not sold to It's also untrue to say the money from the sale of nitel is what will be used to settle the staff, they are government workers if their severance pay and entitlement was not paid then, successive govt is supposed to pay. Have all fed workers who retire been paid completely even in this buhari era from 2015 How can the vp be more corrupt than the principal obasanjo destroying atiku's image in his book doesn't mean its true don't forget they had a rough relationship during obj second term Get more facts about the allegations not what obj writes Pls who are atiku enemies that atiku was supposed to sell nitel too and who are the friends that bought it Mtn glo Airtel Etisalat atikulated 2019 |
