One beautiful thing about the igbos is that they aren't waiting for government to deliver them, they get things fixed for themselves

if the igbos were so useless why did the Nigerians fight so hard to keep them in Nigeria? honestly it baffles me!!!!!!!

Going back to recent history

Check out the 1993 elections , igbos voted en masse for abiola even though an ugbo man was the running mate of the NRC candidate, Tofa

what is sad is that Abiola was denied his mandate by a Northerner, IBB, incarcerated by another northerner, Abacha (and Buhari served under abacha)

when Abacha died on his way to self-succession, they , the Northerners assasinated MKO

i didnt want to re open this wound to bring bad blood but to educate u on some very recent political history

Igbos generally abhor injustice, we simply felt power should rotate round the regions fairly

the north had it for 20 years at stretch from 1979 to 1999, not counting the preceding years

anyways its all in the past

what is paramount is we get a better economy and prosperity for Nigerians

just wanted to put things in perspective so that u cease to misjudge the Igbo Nation sentimentaly

januzaj:
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has congratulated the Presidential candidate of the All progressives congress Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd,,) on his victory in the presidential poll, charging him to fight corruption and carry out reforms in different sectors.

The congratulatory message was made available to our correspondent at Abeokuta on Tuesday following Buhari victory in the March 28 presidential election.

Obasanjo, who noted that so much harm had already been done to many national institutions, including the military, however, advised him to be magnanimous in victory.

He said, “With so much harm already done to many national institutions including the military, which proudly nurtured you and me, you will have a lot to do on institution reform – education, healthcare, economy, security, infrastructure, power, youth employment, agri-business, oil and gas, external affairs, cohesiveness of our nation and ridding our land of corruption.

“Your varied and wide experience will undoubtedly stand you in good stead.”

The former president said the country “is blessed with men and women of goodwill, character and virtue across the board that you can mobilise to join hands with you in the reform, repairs and re-direction that will be imperative to put Nigeria back on the fast lane of good governance, unity, cohesiveness, development and progress.”

Obasanjo noted that Buhari’s victory, after three previous unsuccessful attempts, must be a great lesson to himself and for all politicians, particularly in Nigeria.

He said, “For me, the totality of 2015 elections hold many lessons for our democracy and democratisation process, which are both maturing.

“On this occasion, the system has been unnecessarily overheated before and particularly during the campaigns when emphasis was more on trivialities and hate, divisive, undignifying and disrespectful statements and comments rather than on pressing issues requiring attention.

“I know that in victory, you will be magnanimous to start binding the wounds and bitterness occasioned by the campaign and the evil disciples.”

Before being MILITARY Head of State, he had been Governor of one of the Northern States (under Obasanjo’s Military government) as well as Minister for Petroleum. He later served as Chairman of PTF under Abacha.

He is a no-nonsense man, hence you can never see anyone accuse him of corruption..

In his time as Head of State, he did not implement Sharia law; he reduced inflation from 23% to 4%, by fiscal discipline and a homegrown economic team (not achieved under any other era, even military).

He is the only former head of state that does not own property or land in Abuja .

Despite serving in senior capacity in the oil sector, first as Minister for Petroleum and then Petroleum Trust Fund, Buhari has no petrol station, much less a rig, refinery or an oil block like so many of our leaders. He could have retired into nauseating opulence like most of his counterparts (IBB or Danjuma or even OBJ) but didn't.

He refused to collect an allowance while serving as Chairman of the PTF because he said since he was already drawing a pension from government, his conscience would not allow him to draw another salary from the purse of the same government.

His personal driver of many years is a Christian from Plateau State!

JJ Rawlings of Ghana took over 2yrs before him, and killed all the corrupt leaders, while Buhari only sentenced the corrupt leaders here to prison.

I hope this makes sense to you or is it story for the gods?

PoliticsRe: I’ll Make Naira Equal In Value To Dollar, Says Buhari by 49cents(m): 9:16am On Mar 24, 2015
PapaBrowne:
Are you serioushuh Your speech just gave you off as someone who lacks complete understanding of Economics>

Illiteracy no be moi moi oh!! Ha! So if someone tells you he will equate the value to the dollar you would just swallow it hook line and sinker??
What were you doing when others were attending Economics class??

For the Naira to be equal to the dollar, you would need to see our dollar reserve rate go to something like a trillion dollars!! Even with 20 years of 20% economic growth rate, we would probably not be there!!

Now the bigger lesson for you is that a very strong Naira is not good for our country especially if you want to produce goods and export competitively..
Now let me explain that to you:
A bag of Dangote cement sells for 1500 Naira.
When the dollar was 160 Naira, that bag of cement was equal to $9.
At the new rate of 215 Naira, that same bag of cement is now equal to $7.
That means if Dangote wants to sell his cement in Albania, he has a better price point than he would have had 5 months ago.

Now imagine the Naira is exchanging at 5 Naira to a dollar.
That same bag of cement would now be equal to $300. Where on planet earth would he be able to sell his bag of cement at that price??

Any country that desires to produce and export to the rest of the globe, prays for a weaker currency to allow its goods better pricing amongst competitors. If Buhari understands economics, he will never pray for a very strong Naira except of course he wants us to keep importing everything!!
Thank you for taking time to deviate the topic to economics so that we all can rub minds and assess what the people who want to lead this country are saying

i am pro-GEJ yet i think there are some oversight in your economic analysis of Naira value and its consequences

Firstly i think Gen Buharis target to reduce the dollar value is out of the question as a strong value of naira against dollar is not a sign of economic achievement rather curbing inflation

as Naira looses its value cost of production for products whose raw materials or machinery are sourced outside the country will shoot up decreasing the purchasing value of the naira; this will spell hardship for Nigerians if their incomes do not go up proportionally

iRight now if Dangote keeps the price of his cement same as it was when dollar traded for N160 he will be having lower profits, with an increasing overheads because the value has to match the new value of the naira

the main issues should be how to boost local productivty which is key to checking inflation

Gen Buhari should appreciate that the dollar could trade for N900 without Nigerians feeling any economic hardship as long as they are earning value for their products and services

What Nigerians should appreciate too is that when in 1980s when dollar was equal to One Naira was there not still poverty and under development in Nigeria? then a brand new car sold for like N5000 did it make it easy for everyone to own to own a car

In Kenya and Uganda for instance local farmers who cultivate tea get well paid because they have a good market for their tea leaves in western markets; same also for their flowers

Once we can curb great wastages of our dollar reserves, from importation of stuff like food(GEJ, through his Hardworking Minister has done well here) that we can grow here and clothes when we can grow cotton then our economy......in other words when we have less need for imports of products and services and do more of exports of what we can produce the value of the naira will be optimized in value for the nations economy and it really can be any figure

We speak and pretend as if this country called Nigeria is a Nation where their is justice and freedom;

if it were there would be no need of rotational presidency and politics won't be as heated as we have it now; the minority tribes have been marginalised tremoundously especuialy those of the Niger Delta; which gives Nigeria its livelihood to pay its civil service and run its parasitic stateas

I insist, and who can challenge me; if jonathan's surname was Aremu or Adamu Tinubu would just field a warm up presidential candidature aghsinst 2019

You guys should spare me the non-performance rubbish talk as none of you calling for jonathan's exit have even done an independent research on what this president has done in the last 4 years other than the report of the very corrupt opposition

Does Buhari even strike an image of one who is balanced as a human being? Does Tinubu look like someone interested in the progress of Nigeri? Does Amaechi look like someone who is in sync with the aspiration of the averafe nigerian!!!

The same can be said of Jonathan and his gang too; I won't be naïve to posit thatthe PDP are the angels;

APC wants free and fair elections I as for a thousandth time have they conducted a free and fair election in the local governments under them?

Has Lagos state prosecuted anybody for corrupt prActice in their civil service? Or Are we saying alausa is citadel of corrupt free civil servants?

I am not appealing to anybody to vote for Goodluck as I belive he will win; what am doing is to use this election period to engage the issues affecting our country

Boko haram emerged and became this monstrous because power got stuck in the south south instead of ascendnding up North

It is just national wisdom that the south south finish their 8 years to forestall a re-emergence of the militancy in the creeks

The dollar rate are rising because our earning from oil has plummted; imagine what it will be when the Tompolos and Asaris start bolwing up the pipelines and oil installatiions

Amaechi the pot-bellied power thirsty upstart can't stand the fire power of an irate miltant group in the Niger deta if buhari happens to be declared winner next weekend

Just as Nigeria's amalgation was done too early or shuddily wrought; just as the independence was way too early, Nigeria's isn't ready for the loss of an incumbent president especially one as militant and volatile and with great economic importance as the Niger Dellta

If anything goes wrong in nigeria or if a revolt happens in the niger delta like it happened in the North east it is the ordinary Nigeria who have never seen the bank accounts of the state treasury that will be worst hit: all the politicians on both divide will fly with their families in a safe haven watching us labour to clear their political mess
