earthrealm: i need the android version of google maps...the thing is a life saver for me on my nokia symbian, but since i migrated to android... wahala dey..the nokia maps worked offline since you cud download all the map data and save in your fone, but on android it needs internet to work all the time!!..drainning ones money...mek una helep me
sometimes i dont know which to think about you, you either like trolling for the fun of it, or by nature you are an hypochondriac.
either way its even more annoying when you do it based on stuff thats plainly not true

google maps on android started supporting offline caching of maps since version 5 since 2010 thereabouts. so its either the version on your fone is a donkey years old or you are plainly lying.

the option clearly has "download area map" in it so? huh huh huh huh

i strongly suggest u try this thing with a sim with no data or money on it.

i think it when it put on my data back it was just using my airtel data without discriminating.

but when i service disappeared it continues working. seems it just needs the data option to be on

NB> im using the paid version of the app. dont ask me questions i cant answer like "how did u pay for it and how much" for obvious reasons grin grin grin grin

bact to work. later y'all
PhonesRe: Android, Anyone? by 4llerbuntu(m): 11:13am On Apr 10, 2012
FURTHER EDIT.

turns out when i put in my sim, turned off data and tried it again it successfully completed the emulating 3g part, so hopefully im using my office LAN as my data connection smiley smiley smiley
make e no be say na my precious data i dey rock.

anyway,as a tip for my fellow android rockers, get a bb, use airtel wink wink wink u shocked.
let me break it down for u, before it used to be that u could use ur airtel bb data elsewhere, but they blocked it.
either they have opened it back or i stumbled on the way to unlock it again.

so now i use a rundown bb (has to be urs or when u subscribe they will migrate ur accts onto the poor victim's bb) to subscribe and put the sim in my android. 1gb for 1,400 naira pronto.

if it does not work, get onto that plan that gives u 10mb per week free or try those trial thingies and get data other than the 1 gb. it should then start working.

just feeling nice today. my easter gift to y'all

personally i have tried the app and it seemed to work.

however i need someone else who is savvy to try something for me without the app.

install the drivers for your device. try usb tethering to see if it works. thats how to confirm if it is.

then disconnect it.

now get your alternative connection LAN or WIFI active.

remove your Sim card from your phone so we can be sure you are not going to use your phone data.

put on the phone, connect the phone via USB and enable usb tethering.

now go to network connections on your pc, rightclick the WIFI or LAN connection, go to sharing tab and share that connection (with the RNDIS device) if it asks for a specific connection
i.e choose the other network connection created by the phone tethering

now try to use your default browser lets see if it works.

im doing this because the app seems to be a clever gimmick and i suspect one can ordinarily do this anyway.

NB: my own experience is that the app claims to emulate the 3G or wifi feature on your phone and will give that symbol when active. but for me that part fails. however i can browse with my default browser, dolphin browser does too but other apps complain that there is no network

i need a second opinion on this and that is why i made the last two posts. please if u dont understand any part of this dont bother, its just a fleeting past time and wont be of much use anyway. but u know some of us like all this kain wahala wink wink wink tongue tongue tongue
PhonesRe: Android, Anyone? by 4llerbuntu(m):
ReverseTether allows you to access your computer's internet connection on your device via USB, thus, reverse tethering. It's the first and only app of its kind on the Market, no other app does such a thing.

This app may be useful for you if:
- if you don't have a mobile data plan.
- if you have a limited plan and would like to spare your bytes and money whenever you're at home/work/school.
- if you don't have access to wifi / don't need wifi just for your device.
- if you don't trust the security/privacy of your wifi network.
- if your wifi connection is weak, slow or keeps disconnecting.
- if you're sick of eating terrible food at burger places just for wifi access.
- if you would like to access your local network from your device for backups or storage.

Basically, since you're already connected to usb to recharge or sync, why not also have a super fast, unlimited, secure internet connection for no additional charges, for whatever reason, like sync your mail, contacts or calendars, download and update apps, pre-cache maps, use online-only apps/games, etc...

Key features:
- You'll be able to connect to the internet via USB with a single click. No advanced skills required whatsoever.
- The connection will appear on your device as 3G so that all apps including Market function seamlessly as if you're actually connected to 3G.
- It will first guide you in 2 easy steps to setup your computer for it to work.
- No pc-side software installation is needed at all.
- It provides an option to automatically connect as soon as you plug in USB.
- To disconnect, simply unplug USB. To connect again, plug back USB. Voila. Easy.
- A manual configuration option is also available for advanced users.

This app requires:
- A ROOTED android device
- A Tether option in your device.
- A desktop/laptop computer with your device drivers installed (and ability to edit Network Connections, no extra software needed)
- An internet connection
- Patience - a connection may take a few seconds to a few minutes to get established, since there's no direct way to do it but through this trick.

All app permissions are only needed to establish the connection.

Note that this App was not tested on all android devices and might not work on yours, depending on your manufacturer, your carrier's restrictions, your device's configuration or whatnot.

this chap dey mistake contract price with market price grin grin grin grin

on contract na 99 dollars abi? that comes with you signing a two year contract wey u g dey pay the rest over two years.

market price is about 650 dollars if im not mistaken so that statement that : Now the excitement is that it offers what the iPhones and Androids and Blackberries do at a cheaper rate without cheaper performance." is not correct.

anyway anything is better than a BB Nokia 3310 inclusive grin grin grin

my simple response to things like this is that every argument in favour of homosexuality also applies to bestiality, sodomy, masochism and all other forms of sexual relations

if u think its normal for a man to be gay, then its normal for any tyoe of sex. the same arguments apply mutatis mutandi

i dont understand you people sef, ok so what should we do? refuse to accept the technology? refuse to use it?

but you are using the internet now!!! what do u think it is? 25 years ago do u know how the very thought of talking to people around the world you could not see on little black objects 4 cm long and 2 cm thick was strange?

do u think the electricity in your house that you cannot see or smell or touch is strange also? i suppose we should go back to the stone age?

why do u people insult archaic muslims for their decidedly funny ideas on how to live life when deep down you are not any different?

so because it seems fantastic to you it must be bad or have some esoteric explanation?, one even you cannot substantiate?

wierdcrazy season.

funny thing is if we had to win a title with that run in we would likely choke and lose it. I hate playing relegation bound teams at the tail end of the season, u r more likely to lose those all the time and we have 3!!!!

this was 90mins of pure aggravation. it was really annoying to watch us struggle to score a goal against a team that was there to be taken. how did they miss that goal that theo setup?

and how did city run out of energy with 20 mins to go? they need ask mancini questions o. crazy game
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by 4llerbuntu(m): 5:06pm On Apr 08, 2012
im very disappointed with the first half performance.
firstly im mad at wenger. not because his selection is bad but that its good. so he knows our first eleven and best selection does not include ramsey? that man is crazy.

that said theo walcott will never be a center forward, never. he is so stupid, he ends up central more often than not and promptly disappears behind lescott or kompany or is it hides >smiley mchewww

with the impetus and possession we dont have a goal and always look out of shape when the ball gets to balotelli im surprised we havent gifted them a goal!

we need to buck up our ideas attackwise and get balotelli sent off. i

btw I thot the refs instructions was to get man utd the title? how come balotelli is getting away with murder? smh. tongue

GamingRe: Ghost Recon Future Soldier: Not Buying by 4llerbuntu(m): 4:26pm On Apr 03, 2012
gameaddict: Hey guys, just saw the new ghost recon: future soldier gameplay video and I felt bad after watching it. Anyone seen it? Nigeria, Niger delta scene, awful....

I'm thinking whoever wrote it was senseless and stupid and I'm really starting to review the kind of games I play... I mean, shooting random, fictional characters in games is one thing but what we have here is a well defined society and environment, close to home, events fresh in memory and the whole thing just depicts us as the evil kidnapping group.

Many people have been trying to capitalize on the niger delta events in stories and even here on nairaland, we had suggestions for games based on it but they were refused due to reasons such as possibility of wrong representation. I think its a senseless, weak, uninspiring and naive thing to do but I can understand how the ghost recon producers might have overlooked things. I for one did finish modern warfare 2, no thought for society or setting or how it represented the people. It may therefore not be as bad as I think regarding how players will view Nigeria but who knows? Human psychology is a tricky thing.

What do you guys think?
hmmn quite amusing.

so because its set in niger delta u find it distasteful?
what about all those other ones you have played set in china, russia, other places? u enjoyed those ones and did not stop to think that maybe they were not representative of those societies?
lemme guess, ur from niger delta hunh?

abeg, whats sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. the same way u have enjoyed shooting mindless gooks and russkies and japs, u should also enjoy shooting the boyloafs and ateke toms.

Hypocrisy at its best

as much as im not scapegoating the boy, its pretty obvious we play better without him in the team, simple.

he should not be getting more than 10 minute cameos with specific instructions on what to do

Ramsey has no business on this pitch.

The tactics in this first half are clearly wrong. wenger do something, we shouldnt be struggling with this team.

honourable mention to vermaelen for being made to look like a mug. As in that dribble? Is this Boolu we are playing? Smh

as much as all the talk of private partnership bla bla bla is good, which i do subscribe to

i still have to raise the salient point that WHAT DOES THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT DO?

what do they spend all our money on, if practically every sector is left to individuals to run, power deregulated, fuel, water, transport, health heck name it, its deregulated. I AM MY OWN PROVIDER FOR EVERYTHING I USE/NEED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY. even road sef is now deregulated, abi the lekki toll debacle no be private deregulation. security sef, tompolo is guarding the waterways grin grin grin grin grin i hire security guards, OPC and vigilantes to guard my home!!

WHAT DOES THE GOVERNMENT DO?

but im sure u will still ask me to pay taxes? for what na? what do u spend it on?

moreover why is the government that large, why do dey earn so much, what do they do?

do we even need a government anymore?

THIS IS GETTING MORE RIDICULOUS BY THE DAY

NB @ Beaf,

Beaf: This is the sort of move we need. It should be supported.
It is important that the FG loosens its grip on every strategic sector of the economy: first PHCN, oil is in the process, rail etc. These things should be handed over to states and the private sector. Slowly, but surely GEJ is weakening the FG and moving us closer to true federalism.

Nice.
the parts i highlighted stands reason on its head as usual

how is giving up the economy to PRIVATE HANDS true federalism? i must have missed that part in government/political science lectures.
is federalism not about the components states/political units?
the article did not say giving it to states, it said private individuals.

are private individuals federating components?

be not too quick to sound ignorant in your misconceived support for GEJ, what u pple are doing is simply mortaging the country to individuals.

and i am wont to repeat again, WHAT IS THE POINT TO OUR GOVT, WHAT DO THEY DO?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled, flashed 3 different OS versions with same result.
