bsides @poster i meant that as a new user who was not conversant wit linux its not usual to just put ubuntu solely on ur pc wham bam. besides i guess u got into the linux movt by interacting wit folks. one thing i knw 4 a fact is we always mention d dual boot thingy just to like give a soft landing. ur d 1st new user i knw who did a sole boot on his only pc! sorry if i sounded off. besides why not partition d drive and dual boot?

@ poster, what happened is that your laptop comes with a fancy technology called SATA hard drive. it supposed to be better than the older IDE drives. windows xp was made at a time when such was not yet in existence hence the xp cd cannot 'see' the drive.

you have two options, 1 go into the bios of your laptop (do that by pressing f2 or f10 aint sure which it is on hp this days)
then poke round and see if there is a place u can disable sata there, disable it and save. after it reboots u r xp cd will 'see' the drive. u can then install. i hope you have your drivers cd handy or did u format the recovery partition along with the vista?


if you cannot disable the sata, then you need to get a vista or win7 cd, id recommend windows 7, vista is and was a nightmare for me! anyway, that one will 'see' and install ok on the pc! if u insist on XP then u need an underground Xp cd called xp service pack 3 (am not sure windows ever released sp3 on a cd) that one has SATA drivers in it and will be able to see the drive too.

is your hard drive SATA? if it is, u need a copy of xp sp3 or vista or win7

thats why it says it cant find the drive. but personally, are you sure that pc belongs to you? becos it takes a lot for a noob to sole boot ubuntu on his pc, then decide he doesnt like it and wants to remove it, what were you thinking before? considering that most folks actually dualboot it and windows at first!

besides, did you install it on your own? if u truly did, how come u know nothing about your hardware? it didnt come with ubuntu so how come? what os was on it before?

next i go home to ubuntu and try microemulator, which i think works better in windows than kemulator though!! just has the limitation of no proxies! but in linux i dont need my app to have a proxy setting. i can proxify the entire system natively!

some pages like nl and google results come scrambled up and messed up!

so really, stop wasting your time.
besides, i used my money, lol and i found that on vista i had to boost the connection(so to speak) by using mozilla to connect so the internet is active, that way it would actually communicate. and u have to run it as admin eh, so it works

incase you are doubting, i decided to dust up my cd bag and looked for the emulators, so im going to try them with windows vista and ubuntu linux.

funny thing is i recorded success! strange, but then i know a lot of tweaks and inner koko (its called experience lol)

Wont even work on vista lailai. Works on xp fine. And wont work wit any proxy! besides where u go set am? d proxy thing in kemulator is just decoration abeg. it will only work wit fbt on mtn if d trick is based on default settings. u cant minimise it cos it will just crash. it cant dwnld. IN SHORT STOP WASTING UR TIME. ITS NOT WORTH THE HASSLE. AV BIN THERE ABT 2YRS AGO! the flaws that virus programmer exploit are known, how come they survive every new windows incarnation! a virus for win7 was out 3 hrs after they released the free test copies u pple used!!!!!

there are OS like solaris and MAC and even dare i say linux who dont suffer that plight! yes i know linux for example has a few, but they way its built from base code up, its secure, u not gonna get crazy situations like on MS, and they frankly dont spread and are a waste of time. the way it works u wont get the effect u desire!

yes i know the too few users angle, but isnt that like an admission that the virus market is a lucrative one! for moneymaking? therefore the folks who sit on their hands while the market thrives want it to thrive. (more licensing and related revenue) the net is symbiotic and the top of the chain is MS!

there are proven ways of mitigating this wahala, if MS can rip ideas for eyecandy, why not for base stuff? the MS kernel for example? needs new ideas, and they can afford the worlds best talent!!!

even stuff like filesystem structure? reiserfs, ext etc, all perform better than FAT or NTFS, simply because people approached the ideas differently! and MS still wont support them even when FAT and NTFS get killed by viruses easily

wat model of usb dongle? huawei is supported ootb. oda model there are already compiled .deb workrounds.
