other than the above, as a reasonable individual what you should do is choose a opportune time to discuss with him, tell him your concerns and try to device ways of integrating your lives to mesh more in the new circumstance e.g YOU go to take him for lunch once or twice a week, if u work too u pple can arrange to get back from work together (though u not married but just trying to make u see a point), etc. just be UNDERSTANDING of his schedule and work demands and be creative!!!

even jaunty updates from a fresh install is now like 350mb then add apps and u pushing 500 too. did half yesterday. was too scared to restart the pc to see if the gdm update had cooked up again so i just shut down and went to sleep. when i get home today i will boot up the pc and see (why i dont want the desktop to die sef na me sabi, its 4years old!!!!! maybe i should just put puppy!!! nah, i dont trust the puppy setup that much, once whatever u want to do is not in the thing, to get it is looooonnnngggg thing!!

i truly identify with some of these issues. i'm a lawyer in nigeria and i hear all manner or balderdash and rubbish from folks around me all the time.

its really annoying when u hear all manner of nonsense from people who simply because they do not understand a thing start to mouth off recklessly.

even in churches, i have been present and heard some really stupid morons stand on the pupilt telling folks about how the lawyers wont make heaven (quoting scriptures to boot), also other nonsense, really the less is said about nigerian pastors the better it is for christianity as a whole!!!

ok lemme paste this here before i forget and need it l8r. theres love in sharing isnt it!!

having taken delivery of a new laptop at work i decided to install ubuntu as usual, but because the desktop aint mine technically, i decided to dual boot. but to partition could mean lil wahala l8r should i need to leave or transfer the lapie etc. plus security concerns!!!!

so i decided to install via wubi (9.10 comes with wubi, wonder why mint folks removed it). it was ok, everything worked out of the box blabla! very enjoyable experience, till i decided to update the system!!

after update and the mandatory restart, my ubuntu install refused to boot, rather dumping me into shell and giving me
sh:grub

was shocked, and really peeved cos as usual, id already had tons of stuff in it!! so i went looking and found that the problem is that with the wubi, when u update the kernels and xorg, apparently the bootloader gets muddled hence u cant boot.

the solution is u need a copy of the original wubildr to replace the one in C:\
so if u run a wubi install, u should make a backup of ur wubildr file in case or u can just download the one iv attached here. its an original one that has been made alrite!

N.B when u replace it, and boot into ubuntu, at the grub screen u should press e so u can edit the emacs grub menu, there u should delete the first line "insmod, "
then ctrl x to boot.

solved!!!! (rename the file from .mid, just delete the .mid)

what am saying is if what u want is a distro to use for ur desktop needs like windows, u should not be trying BSD.

there are other more friendly distros designed for the desktop user like ubuntu


if u wanna learn google for linux books. u can get a few good ones from the net. one i can recommend is u get the linux bible 2008. its a must have. it is available on rapidshare

well if u did any research b4 jumping into d linux bandwagon u would hav found that when it comes 2 user friendliness there are distros who hav it and some that dont. linux distros are made 4 particular reasons and at times directed at particular pple. so it depends on ur reasons and uses 4 one. if all u wanted is a user friendly desktop os u will not be going 2 bsd! what do u think is d point about this thread? ubuntu is the best desktop linux distro around! if u was coming from windows the softest landing u will get is from distros like ubuntu! other good user friendly desktop os are mandriva. mepis, fedora. stuff like pclinux, BSD, beos etc are a bit heavy and are for linux savvy folks! do ur research well. linux is a big world. * * * as 4 d cmdline jibe i guess ur a point n click windows user. too bad becos 1. its not true that cmdline is so scary besides most stuff u do in cmd line can be done graphically esp in ubuntu 2. do u know wat c:/programfiles/yahoo means? if u do then why are u complainin abt cmd line? its d same things u do in linux 2! are u not willing 2 learn. 3. that cmdline is d most powerful tool in a pc whether windows or mac or linux and it is d difference btw format solves all enginering and enlightened work.
