some random guy's view:

A point I made to an Arsenal supporting mate of mine is that his club don't actually have any genuine wingers.

Gervinho will never be good enough at this level, Podolski has always been more of an inside/second forward, Ox is constantly drifting inside and wants to be more central, as does Walcott who has made it very clear that if he doesn't get his wish of playing more centrally he ain't gunna pull his weight.

Arsenal don't actually have anybody in the mold of Navas (would be an ideal Arsenal signing), Bale, Robben, Di Maria etc. that hug the touchline, provide genuine width and regularly beat their fullback. Which means the wide 4-3-3 just doesn't work.

When Arsene attempts to play narrower like City do, with nimble playmakers on the wide spots rather than speedy wingers (Silva+Nasri/Cazorla+Ramsey) it kills the width and forces all of Arsenal's play to go centrally, which in turn pretty much negates any reason for Giroud to be in the side if no-one is delivering crosses from out wide.

I don't mean to heavily criticise Arsenal, as they were much, much better in the 2nd half, but it says a lot about the wide system that Arsene favours when your most potent force on the wing is your LB Gibbs.

If they want to play with Giroud then they need genuine wingers who can get to the byline and whip a good ball in, which they don't have. If they want to play narrower with a possession game, then they need Walcott to be constantly on the shoulder making runs in behind i.e Chichartio, which he is very capable of (as seen in his goal today) but not on a consistent basis.

- Diaby was a passenger - Walcott taking set-pieces is comical.
walcott taking set pieces, i guess is partly cos of the injuries, but its not the first time its happening and i also think its a very idiotic thing.

only thing i agree with is the squad depth issue, but its not so much as in the number of bodies but in the quality.

for all the talk of rolls royce DM who can pass and intercept, i firmly believe a dirty, break it up, cop a few red cards DM is what we need. esp if he is the vocal ferocious type who can lay into people underperforming. we seem to have a surfeit of mid fielders whose best position is upfront through the center areas.

Diaby, God bless him, will never make a good DM. he simply lacks the cojones for it. he is more of a passing and overlapping guy. seems he should be playing in Jack's position which sango forbids to happen. do u see Diaby having the balls to crunch into tackles and mixing it up with someone like Kompany? grin grin grin

Cazorla needs two weeks on the sands in Dubai.

Theo should not be our main goalscoring threat. its a travesty that someone that plays like that at his level is our primary threat. cry cry cry
as poor as his footy is, he is still the main goal scorer? holy moses.

so many issues mehn.... na wah ooo

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

OPINION: http://www.football365.com/f365-says/8417691/F365-Says
The second half revival should not paper over the cracks. This Arsenal team is in trouble.

They played well in the second half, in that a) they managed to cause Chelsea the odd worry, b) scored a goal and c) weren't as abjectly awful as they were in the opening 45. The problem is they were so abysmal in that first half they had too much to do in the second.

It's all very well for Arsenal to hammer a poor Newcastle or a dreadful Reading, but in the big games, the games that fans care about and games that will not only push them up the table but make them a more attractive prospect for signings, Arsenal are not only losing but, for long spells, not looking like they could compete.

It's a surreal experience, watching a team full of quite obviously very talented players drift around the pitch, seemingly trying their hardest just to keep their heads above water and to avoid embarrassment, rather than actually winning the game. This Arsenal are drowning, not waving.

And it's been like this for a while too. They have some hope, mainly through Jack Wilshere, but too often he has to win/try to win games on his own, as I wrote here. Theo Walcott will pop up with the odd goal, but Olivier Giroud is good but not good enough to be the first-choice centre-forward for a serious team, something weird has happened to Santi Cazorla and Abou Diaby will injure himself sooner or later. And as for Bacary Sagna...his regression from probably the best right-back in the division a year or so ago to his current state is frightening. Carl Jenkinson must surely be given a chance again soon,

Perhaps the best way to sum Arsenal up is to look at their bench for the Chelsea game. They had only one attacking option, and that was Andrey Arshavin, a man who the club have been trying to get rid of for about 18 months now. They have injuries, notably to Mikel Arteta, Lukas Podolski and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but their lack of squad depth is being exposed.

This Arsenal don't seem to know what the plan is, and that's either because they're collectively too stupid to understand instructions or those instructions aren't being given clearly enough. Or, I supposed, there might not be a plan to speak of at all. Whatever the truth is, it doesn't reflect particularly well on Arsene Wenger.

The thing that seems to worry Arsenal fans more than whether Wenger is the right man for the club or not is who, if he isn't, will have the stones and authority to actually get rid of him. Perhaps it will take the shock of not qualifying for the Champions League to convince Ivan Gazidis, or Stan Kroenke, or Peter Hill-Wood, or whoever the hell is in charge at the Emirates, to say 'Thanks Arsene, but...'

At the moment, there's a real danger of Arsenal missing out on that top four. The Champions League qualification that financially sustains them at the moment. At the time of writing they're sixth, six points behind Spurs in fourth. People laugh at the idea of Liverpool, a place and only goal difference behind, making the top four, but is it any more outlandish to suggest they will make it rather than Arsenal?

no ish bro. ain't got no beef with u.

either way you seem to imply opta is wrong. those are stats and not opinions.

unless those stats are false, i fail to see the issue. a fact is a fact.

the interpretation however, is left to you to make. just as a coach uses them to shape his job, a fan can use them to shape his views.

i made no such interpretations or conclusions. i merely wanted to hear views about what they import. not to be insulted by asinine people with no iota of self respect.

e.g Van Persie has 18 goals in 20 starts. its a stat. its a fact. some think therefore he is the bees knees, other think its just the effect of playing in a side like man utd where mythically strikers always do well grin grin (bollocks)

personally i just think its vindication of all those arguments that Wayne Rooney is not the best striker in the premier league grin grin of course at this point last year all those united fans jumping up now and shouting Van Pee could not see how VP could be better than Rooney. now they know better cool cool

na u sabi o.

as far i know, i was very happy and confident when torres was on the pitch that i could still get a result. i was praying rafa did not remember he had a real striker on the bench. likewise millions of arsenal fans.

the moment ba was coming on, i just knew we was in troublem. ironically within 5 minutes he managed to get the opportunity to kill off the game, and i dont know abt u but that miss was due to vermaelen brilliance. at the time he shot at the net, verm was still running back. its not like he was standing in goal tending the goal.

bottomline, id take playing against torres anyday of the week. he is like an impotent man, he cant do shiishii.

if thats not indicative of the difference btw torres and ba, what is? how come ba managed to get in that position in 5minutes whilst torres ran around for 80 ineffectively? u need to get the chance before the opportunity to miss it!!! and it was not even a free open net pass, he had to work it out.

shucks, why are we even still debating this. torres is the bestest striker ever chikena. coogar haff win
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by 4llerbuntu(m): 10:51pm On Jan 20, 2013
onto the match.

i have taken my time to look at sagna and the suspicion is growing that he is getting past it ala lauren.

i understand loss of form, even fatigue. but over the last 5 games he is demonstrating way more than these. for one he looks to have lost at least a yard of pace, and never seems to be aware of his vicinity anymore.
attack wise he is atrocious. i can't remember the last cross he made that beat the first man. and his body language is just not it at all!!!!!!!!

Theo had an absolute shitter of agame saved by the well taken goal. before and after the goal he was terrible. but of course, he is our new 100k striker. at least he is better than torres. good luck with that

the teams body language is gone to the dogs and i suspect afew of those boys would have started to question Wenger in their minds.

anyways, i felt sorry for Chelsea though. after all these money spending and crap, to have to cope with this is a shame. they could not even beat this arsenal convincingly. a division one side would have gotten a result

before jumping into this, perhaps you ought to have read afew pages of the thread to understand the origin of the yarn.

nevertheless nobody is rubbishing anyone. there is a point we have been trying to make to Monsieur A40. incidentally, even debosky has tried. it all started from when the contract negotiations were on going. nevertheless feel free to update yourself.
moreover, u are entitled to your opinion. just be civil about expressing it....... in other words respect yourself.

@A40 like i said, coogar is not a decent role model. i fail to understand why u had to use such colorful words to insult my person. did i insult u?

itake it you think the stats and facts i posted are wrong so why not just say so and demonstrate why they are wrong?

i do believe slanging match ups on faceless forums are beneath me so u enjoy urself on my behalf ok.

ironically, its not like this is your team so why the aggro? Save the retard compliments for your family members.

@optajoe: 9 - If you remove Walcott's goals, the only result that would change would be the Everton game (eg Newcastle game would be 4-3). Explained.

I'm ashamed of arsenal. a division one side would have gotten a result in today's match.

anyway, third position is sealed for Chelsea.

tip.

my phone screen has always been at its lowest level for brightness. this is because my eyes cannot stand the bright screen and battery saving.

ironically even at its lowest setting i still find it annoying. Samsung's lowest setting is bright. you often find reviews praising a phone for being bright. rubbish.
i can barely look at my phone when i wake up in the morning.

so i stumbled on the fact that there are apps on the play store that can turn it down even further and even add hues and filters.

I'm using screen adjuster now and my eyes are grateful. u don't want to use this when you are out doors but inside....

The system is not confused.

I posted this a long time ago.

If you want to extend the life of your airtel bundle after subscribing for the bis plan, u should just subscribe for a regular data plan before it expires.

That said, you will be cut of at the expiration of the time the additional bundle is to expire.

And in your case Mr op you are one of the beneficiaries of the tweak where u guy added multiple months of data subscriptions to get a large amount of data. Ideally it would last for as long as the number of months u put together is.

No special worries here.

And now that u have notified airtel, im sure it will soon be rectified. Just in case you did not know, there are quite a number of people who work atty telcos on nairaland. They will look into the loopholes i can.assure u

PoliticsRe: Boko-Haram Leader Shekau Found In Mali by 4llerbuntu(m): 12:41pm On Jan 19, 2013
Ironic really.

Imho what the government needs to do is lay down a marker.

Get nasty and do stuff. When they see that you are not afraid of doing the nasty, you will see differences in approach by these scumbags.

America laid down a marker after 9/11. You can whine and complain all you want, has there been another attack on American soil? No.

You think the terrorists are trying? Maybe, but not hard enough. If they really determined to they would have......... They also have to consider the repercussions. They know it will be nasty and brutal.

That's why i wonder when people complain, you do have a point with the complaints about America but how do you make a man stupid enough to die for a cause take you serious enough to exercise restraint? How?

You show him you are willing to help him die, him and all his family and cohorts. That's how you deliver a shock to the system.

Nevertheless, announcing that one leader is in Mali is pretty dumb. He is not the problem. When he dies there are countless fools willing to take his place. He is not the issue, the production pipeline is the issue.. Let them know attacking Nigeria will only bring hell to them in real time.
