to enter recovery mode

remove the battery from the phone then put it in back.

then press and HOLD the Volume Up, Power and Home buttons together at the same time.

do not release them. the phone will show the samsung logo twice then go into recovery mode.

then release the buttons.



you can then navigate the menu in recovery mode with the volume up and down buttons and select any entry with the home/power button


u will see a factory reset option there. choose it and allow to execute.


when its done MAKE SURE IT GIVES YOU THE DONE response onscreen, reboot or just pull the battery

1. ADB, either in windows or ubuntu. its part of the Android SDK.

all you need is ADB on a PC


2. your device must have had usb debugging enabled. i just sincerely hope you had ticked the debugging box before you locked yourself out


method 1:
plug in the device to the PC

open up a terminal or console on the pc

enter the following :

sqlite3 settings.db

update system set value=0 where name='lock_pattern_autolock'

update system set value=0 where name='lockscreen.lockedoutpermanently'

.quit


-AND/OR-

method 2:

you can try both of them
1- run the first method.
2-reboot
3-run the second method
4-reboot

NOTES:
-in the first method each line is a seperate command so click enter after typing each line.
-in the second method type all the command and then press enter.
-after running both methods and rebooting you may see the pattern lock,that doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't work,just try any random pattern and it may unlock then remove the pattern from settings.

then again, usually when the lockscreen issue turns up, after a certain number of tries the phone asks you to enter the google account details linked with the phone to unlock....

so why not also just do that?

There is dis Samsung S1 that the lock was errorneously manupilated to Pattern lock n all attepts 2 unlock has proved abortive the owner doesn't have any idea on how 2 remove it nor does he know d pattern flow.

u MAY also need to allow it to actually connect to the internet and start download first. stop it.

then check for the exact place the files are now being downloaded into, then replace same with your own previously downloaded data.

all4naija: Isn't that a privilege-properties error? Instead of you disabling it by changing the enable value to zero that will prevent you from sending error messages to Ubuntu serve. Why not just do this:

it is not a privileges error.


apport reports are only enabled by default for testing releases for devs to immediately catch non-serious bugs and crashes.
for stable releases it is disabled.

one it logs aggressively,
two, it invokes panic in a non savvy user
three, it is in actual fact NOT necessary. when the system encounters a serious error it will take a log dump and offer to send to the bug tracker without an alarming notification.


unfortunately, by some oversight apport has been left enabled by default in 12.04/12.10.
personally i suspect it was deliberate, because i check those logs and it seems to be logging errors from dash and scopes. the Unity devs apparently want logs from their unfinished unity tweaks.


then again changing that value to 0 does not stop the logging and sending of bug reports, IT STOPS THE NOTIFICATIONS.
u disable bug reporting from elsewhere on the system.
