When people talk of "rates" or things like "per capita",they are talking of the total figures divided by the population. 100m incidents of assaults in a nation of 10m is the same "rate" as 10m incidents of assaults in a nation of 1m.

The difference in population is adjusted for by dividing the numbers.Otherwise,China and India would have the highest rates of many crimes simply because they have the largest populations.

I doubt it because we live in a country with 1/3rd the rate of infections in the US.Put bluntly,you are 3 times more likely to get infected sleeping with an American than sleeping with a Brit.

The only reason HIV rates amongst Blacks Brits might equal that of black Americans is because a substantially larger proportion of blacks in the UK are from Africa,particularly places in Eastern and Southern Africa.

I don't know what the exact figures are but my suspicion is that its basically the same or less than that of Black Americans ,extrapolating from HIV rates in the Carribeans.

You seem to miss the point.The issue is not the existence of tax "loopholes" for corporations,such tax breaks exist in every nation.The question is whether US corporations face lower tax liability as a whole compared to the UK.There is no evidence to suggest such.Corporate income tax constitutes by far a larger chunk of a corporation's entire tax liability.

Whether its the higher Capital Gains Tax or the healthcare coverage burdens borne by US companies,its clear US companies face a larger tax burden.Thanks to the Democrats,it will get worse!

That the US has a larger economy is besides the point.A slowdown in any major market,whether China or the EU,will cause ripples in the global economy but the issue we were addressing was simple-who has the better economic prospects over the short term-The evidence is overwhelming and indisputably in favor of the UK.

As for slowdowns,inevitably they will arise but not to the extent of the US.The last US recession in 2001 did very little to budge strong growth in the UK.

Are these 2 studies the same? One is "coordinated by the OECD" while the other is conducted by the UN.

The top corporate income tax is 35% in the US compared to 30% in the UK so what is your point? GDP growth for the US, from the latest IMF figures, is estimated at 0.5% for the US for 2008(1/3rd of the lowest estimates for the UK).Again,did you actually research the figures before posting?

Many of these Yanks here are simply delighted to have been "rescued" from Nigeria.They are like a kid in a sweet shop.If they were in South Africa,they will be singing praises of South Africa.They are not concerned with where they can travel to ,simply being allowed to leave Nigeria is good enough for them and they remain eternally grateful to the US.

I don't know whether a British citizen can travel to more countries,I guess that is plausible because of Britain's historical ties.I know Americans can come to Europe without a visa and vice versa.However,the distance and time difference deters a lot(only a quarter of Americans have a passport) from traveling at all.

The key thing for me is the proximity of some of the greatest cities in the world to the UK and the fact that you enjoy much of the same rights as any EU national in a wide variety of countries. The best Americans can do is go to Canada or Mexico,except the few who have the time or money to come to Europe.No wonder many seem to think London is a country.

A British citizen has a right to live and work in 27 European countries from France to Italy.Paris is only an hour away from here and if you prefer to live there and come to work in London,that is your business.We are all part of the larger European Community.

What do you have to compare with Rome,Paris,Barcelona and London in the US? American passport allows you to travel without visa to Europe just as a British passport but you don't have the same rights in Europe as a Brit who is a European national.
