CHAPTER 10
After the close of work, Femi drove down to a shopping mall to get some things. Tammy also left the office and went home. She parked in front of her apartment. She alighted with her bag and keys in her hand. She was about to unlock the door but the door opened to her.
“Christ! Femi! You startled me. What are you doing here? Where’s your car, I didn’t see it outside. How did you even get in? You stole my spare key! I’ve been looking for it”
“Just come in already. Or you want to call the police?”
“Oh! You think I can’t. This is breaking and entering, it’s called burglary and it’s a punishable offence under the law” She pointed out.
“Lawyer Tamilore, I never knew you’ve switched job. Oh! You are a big fan of the series ‘Suit” Anyways, I’ll gladly go to jail if you are the one sending me there” He joked as she eyed him and walked pass him into the house. She went to her room, changed and came out to meet his mysterious friend.
“You cooked again!” She said as she entered into the kitchen.
“It’s no big deal and I’ve been doing this for weeks now”
“It’s not a crime to cook for someone's wife. But you don’t have to go this for me”
“I just want to say thank you for everything. You did not only save me, you also save my wife”
“Okay. You are welcome” She said and he pulled her into a hug.
“Tamilore I don’t know about you but I miss you all these weeks” He said as he freed her.
“Of course I miss your wahala” She said playfully.
“I know I’m a pain in the neck. Anyways let’s eat” He said and they settled down to eat. They ate quietly not a single word while eating, both of them in their own thoughts.
Tammy didn’t like the way things were going on between them. She wondered how long she’ll continue to put up with the friendship she was having with Femi Brown.
After eating, she cleared the dishes, Femi offered to assist in washing the dishes but she declined, she told him to go and sit in the parlour. She needed to be alone even if it’s just for five minutes. She finished with the dishes and joined Femi.
She sat on a separate couch from his. Femi was with the remote, checking out some TV stations. Then he settled for a fashion TV channel.
“I know you’ll like this station” He said.
“That reminds me, we need to celebrate your niece who God turned from SS to AS” He said. Tamilore laughed. “Her name is Iyanu”
“Hmm…Your brother’s faith is out of this world. It has really motivated me and stirred up my faith. Please tell him, he’s got himself a role model” He said and Tamilore laughed.
Of a truth, every ear that heard that testimony tingled. Almost all the family members shared the testimony in their respect churches.
Tamilore looked at the wall clock to check the time.
“Femi. When are you going home?” She asked calmly.
“Anytime from now” He replied and shifted his gaze back to the TV. Then Tammy’s phone rang. It was her very good friend, Yolanda that was calling.
“Hi, Yolanda” She said and continued talking.
“It’s a lie! You don’t mean it” She said.
“I mean it, I’ve been transferred to Lagos” Yolanda affirmed.
“You don’t know how happy I am right now girlfriend” She said.
Happiness was written all over Tammy’s face. She was sure that the presence of a female friend will at least curb Femi from visiting her every now and then.
Femi who was actually following the conversation already sensed what was going on in Tammy’s head.
The phone conversation continued.
“I can’t wait for you to move in with me, when are you coming?”
“Move in with you? The Tammy I used to know doesn’t joke with her privacy” She countered.
“I’ve change o. You are free to move in with me” She said but she hasn’t changed a bit. She loves her space.
“Tell that to yourself. It’s not me that will come and intrude your privacy” Yolanda said playfully, though she meant what she said.
“Yolande nau….
“Well….. Girlfriend, I already got an apartment through the help of my company”
“Aww….” Tammy sounded disappointed.
“I’m leaving Bayelsa tommorow!” She informed.
“That means you are serious, so they finally send you back to Lagos after two years”
“Yes o…I’ll holler you once I land in Lagos.
“No problem. Have a safe trip”
“Thanks, bye” She said and the line went off.
“Yolanda……oooo……” She drawled and Femi laughed out.
“Someone is trying to get rid of me but it didn’t work!” He winked at her.
Tamilore who was already pissed threw a pillow at him.
“Oops! The truth hurts” He said and she threw another pillow at him.
“Just shut it Femi and where did you get all those ideas in your head from?”
“I can read you like a book Tamilore. You wanted your friend here just to get rid of me”
“Think anything you want. Just leave me be”
“That even reminds me. I had sex last week”
”Ooo…...stop! Stop discussing your sex life with me. It’s awkward” She stamped her feet on the floor repeatedly.
“Really, are you not my friend? More so you advise me not to beg for it until she willing ask for it. Remember!”
“Yes….yes. I know I said that but that’s just a plan and I didn’t remember asking you to give me a situation report. Skip the details please”
He left his seat and sat next to her. She adjusted on the chair, slightly nervous. Femi noticed this and held her hand.
“What are you scared of?”
“Being attached to you” She replied with all sincerity.
“And by attachment, you mean emotional attachment?” He asked and she nodded.
“Femi I’m single, I need to keep my distance from you. You are caring and all. That alone can….
“I understand”
“No you don’t. If you do, you would have limited some of the things you do here. You parade yourself in my apartment as if we pay the rent together” She said and Femi laughed.
“Oh! You should know by now that I’m a part time housemate. You should have come out straight about the rent. We can share the bills, you know” He said playfully.
“You are not serious Femi. You think I’m joking here!”
“Okay….I only wanted to lighten your mood. See, you don’t have a problem since our emotions are in check. I’m a married man who is not ready to cheat and you are a single lady who can’t date a married man. It’s simple” He gestured with his hands.
“Really, what happens if my emotions are not checked?” Tammy asked. And Femi answered her boastfully. “Don’t worry mine is in check”
“Good” She said and stood up. She was wearing a knee length tank dress. She took another glance at Femi then pull up her dress all she had on her body was her matching colour bra and pant. Femi couldn’t believe his eyes, his head was already spinning at the sight of the gorgeous body before him. Tammy who already noticed he was going crazy moved closer to him.
“I thought you said you can put your emotions in check” She said slyly and sat beside him. It took all of Femi’s will power to snap of it.
“Tamilore stop being childish and put on your dress”
“I won’t. It’s my house and I want to remain like this” She said checking out the bulge in his trousers. Making it obvious to Femi that she was actually checking him out and this got Femi embarrassed.
“Fine! You win I’m leaving” He snapped and took his car keys. She laughed and waved at him.
“Good night Mr. ‘checked emotion’ she said and gave him a tongue out.
“You are mean. And I swear, I’ll get back at you” He threw at her.
“Sooth yourself at least I got you to leave and please don’t come back anytime soon or you’ll be seeing more of this” She laughed at him as he ran out of her apartment.

That night Femi got home and to his surprised his wife wasn’t home. She called her and Tara confidently told him that she’s at her mom’s house.
“Doing what my dear wife? He inquired.
“I just need a breathing space”
“That means your matrimonial home is choking you right! Tara I’ll give you this night because it’s already late. By the time I return from work tomorrow, I must meet you in this house” He ordered.
“And if I don’t? Femi don’t you get bored of seeing one particular face every day! If you don’t, I do”
“Like seriously…
“Good night Femi and stop disturbing my life” She said and hang up on him.
“Did she just hang up on me?” He asked himself. He threw himself on the chair and wondered when he’ll taste what it feels like to be in a happy marriage again. Then picture of the last thing he saw on Tammy flashed in his head.
“What got into that girl today for God’s sake” He said to himself wondering. Then he decided to call her.
“Hello” He said as she picked up after the third ring.
“I take it that your wife is not home!”
“Yes. You know you don’t have to go that far to prove a point”
“Oh! That is not what I expected to hear from you” She said confidently.
“What do you expect to hear from me?”
“You should have said 'Tammy…I thought I have my emotions under check but I was wrong' that is what you should have said!”
“Fine! I admit but at least I flee”
“That was because you had a chance to!”
“Ehm…
“Stay away from me” She warned.
“That was not the agreement” He reminded her.
“At least keep your distance to some extent”
“Fine. I will”
“Better”
“That reminds me, let me just inform you since I don’t have a wife that cares about my life. I have a two days conference to attend in Abuja. And I’m leaving tomorrow morning. I wanted to tell you earlier before you pulled out that silly stunt on me”
“Why did you flee, you should have stayed back. Anyway, have a safe trip and be good”
“I will thanks. Tammy…” He was still saying you but she cut in.
“What is it again? Good night” She said and he didn’t allow him replied before the line went off. He looked at the phone screen and shakes his head.
Tamilore dropped the call and tossed her phone aside. She curled up on the couch, soliloquizing. “Tamilore, you shouldn’t have gone that far to proof a point. That was really silly! How will I ever face him now? For God sake he saw me naked! Okay not totally naked but…..aww….”She drawled and hit her head with her hand.

Tara had spent one good week with her mum and still she did not return home. She told her husband she planned on spending two weeks. Despite the fact that Femi called his mother- in-law to talk sense into her daughter still she didn’t show up. The woman will never scold Tara, she’s a celebrity, so she had already idolized her.



CHAPTER 11
It’s been weeks now that Yolanda had showed up in town. She and Tammy had been going back and forth visiting each other. Femi Brown’s friendship with Tamilore was affected by this new girl in town because Tammy hardly had his time. Sometimes he'll call her to inform her he was coming but she’ll tell him she’s with her friend. There are times he went to her house unannounced and still meet her absence.
All of Tammy’s free time was dedicated to her friend, they hangout, go to mall, cinemas and all. Though, she was killing two beds with one stone; Keeping her friend’s company and avoiding Femi Brown at the same time.
Tammy’s sole purpose of avoiding him was because of the foolish stunt she pulled the last he was at her place. She regretted pulling off her dress just to prove a point.
One day, Femi Brown was pushed to the wall, he gave her a call and sternly insisted that he must see her or he’ll come over to her work place. “You wouldn’t dare” that was the response she gave Femi.
Femi waited for days for her to come to her senses but she didn’t give in. So he paid her a surprise visit at the office.
Luckily for Femi, he was able to cajole the receptionist and got in without her informing Tammy. The lady was already drooling at the sight of the handsome man before her so she stupidly suspended all protocols for Femi.
He was given direction to her office by one of the factory workers he met in the compound. He adjusted his suit and knock on her door. “Come in” Tammy said without knowing who was at the door. Then he entered and Tammy wish the ground would swallow her up that very moment. “How did you get in here?”
“Why are you hiding your face? You’ve stopped seeing me” He confronted her.
“What are you doing here? Just leave already, Femi” She said, avoiding his gaze
“Answer my question first!”
“What part of ‘I don’t want to see your face’ didn’t you understand Mr?”
He realized she was still avoiding his eyes. “Oh….. Now I get it, I even thought you had liver. You can’t even look straight into my eyes”
“Says who” She said looking away.
“Says who? And you are still looking away! The last time I saw you eye ball to eye ball was the day you went half naked”
“Half naked!” A voice interrupted them. They both turned to look at the intruder.
“Philip! What in God’s name are you doing in my office?” She said putting up a front although she was embarrassed. Philip shouldn’t have heard that.
“That is not the issue right now. Tammy I can’t believe you can stoop so low! Where are your morals? You are sleeping with a married man for crying out loud!”
“I’m not sleeping with him Philip. It’s not what you…
“Tammy! Do you owe him an explanation! Femi interrupted her.
“Of course she does I’m her….”
“Ex, Philip and nothing more. Now get out of my office before I call the security on you” Tammy stood up for herself, putting the embarrassment aside.
“My friend owns this place, remember!”
“Then go tell him to fire me. As of now this is still my office, so get out” She fired at Philip.
Philip eyed Femi, adjusted his suit then left. He went straight to Alex’s office. Femi turned to leave too, he knew he messed up big time he shouldn’t have said something like that in a work place.
“Come to the house today” Tammy said as he was about to step out of the office. He didn’t say a word, he didn’t even look back he just left.
Philip got to Alex’s office but things didn’t go his way as his friend told him the pure and undiluted truth.
“Firstly, don’t ever bring me into anything that has to do with my employee’s personal life. I run a business here and not a family court. You…..”Alex was saying.
“Seriously” Philip exclaimed.
“Yea, seriously Read my lips, as long as you two are no longer dating, she is just an ordinary employee to me”
“Yes I’m an ordinary employee and I want it to stay like that or fire me instead!” Tammy said from behind.
Alex was busted, he didn’t like what Tammy heard he only said that to drive some sense into Philip.
“Oh my God! How many office bumps do we have today?” Alex said scratching his head.
“I came here because I know he’ll be in your office. But thank God I walked in right on time to hear all that from you Alex. And I think I’m done here” She said and made to leave.
“Tammy…..Wait!” Alex who felt bad called her but she didn’t answer.
“Tammy I command you as your boss, come back here this minute!” He ordered.
Then she stopped and turned to face him. “Philip, leave us” Alex said to his friend.
“Where I’m I suppose to go?” He tried to object.
“Anywhere, show yourself out of here till I’m done with her” Alex said and Philip left reluctantly.
“Tammy I’m sorry you heard that I only said that to spite Philip since he refuses to let go of you”
“I understand I’m an ordinary employee and you are even free to sack me”
“Stop being dramatic, Tammy. You are my friend, you know it and your relationship with Philip won’t affect that. Just go back to your office, I’ll sort out Philip” He said.
“Don’t believe whatever Philip told you, I know I don’t owe anyone explanation for my life but the truth is that what he heard was not actually what it was in the real sense” She clarified.
“I believe you. Just be careful, Femi is a married man. So you won’t turn out to be a baby mama” He counseled.
“That will never happen, thanks anyway” She said and left his office.
She met Philip at the reception and gave him the piece of her mind. “Philip! It’s either you stay in your lane and get it straight into your head that we are over or I’ll get a restraining order against you” She said and left the place.
Philip got back to his friend’s office and they continued from where they left off.
“As I was saying before Tammy came in, my second words to you is ‘get off her back' The earlier you do this, the better for you. Move on, Tammy already has”
“With a married man!” Philip said with a quizzical look.
“That is none of your business. Your own business is to move on because she has. Have a good day friend. I have work to do, we’ll see in the evening at the club” He said and Philip left disappointed, he wished Alex helped him fight for her.
