Why Is There A Resurrection? by blueAgent(m): 3:52pm On Feb 03
Resurrection is defined as the raising of dead back to life .
The resurrection of the dead is paramount and central to Christ teachings and God's plan for Man's salvation.
When Adam and Eve sinned against God, they brought death upon humanity( for the wages of sin is death) Christ by his death has earned us eternal life which necessicitate or require the resurrection.
IMPORTANTANCE OF THE RESSURECTION.
1. It is the hope of the saints and believers.
Paul taught the early christains that our faith and believe in Christ would be in vain if there was no hope of resurrection. This raises a valid question if the saints are in Heaven as soon as they die why do we then hope for the resurrection.
The truth is that  there is no reward in death, the dead in Christ are asleep they are not in Heaven or conscious or alive in any way but are totally asleep just as the Bible says. Psalm104:29,psalm146:4,Eccl9:5-6,Job14:12.

In Paul's words if our hope in this life is only in Christ without the hope of resurrection which only Christ can give then we are of all men most miserable 1cor15:29-end,Acts 2:26.

2.The reward for believers: Christ promised to raise those who believe in him on the last day, so resurrection is the reward of the believers john6:40.

3.A point of physical transformation:God would not permit us to enter Heaven with our tinted and weak bodies (human nature).
God has promised the saints that they will receive incorruptible body and nature at the resurrection.the resurrected saints will be like Christ. David look forth to this day as he wrote in Psalms 17:15,1cor 15:1-end.

4. A point of punishment for the unbeliever's: People have been erroneously taught that the soul and spirits of the unjust is cast into Hell, this is unbibilcal. If the soul or spirit of the dead is what is punished in Hell then there would have not be need for the resurrection of the unjust, the Bible is clear  on this subject, the just and unjust will be resurrected judged and rewarded according to their works.
The unjust body will be cast into the lake of  fire the whole body will be destroyed or killed the 2nd time the Bible calls this the second death.Jesus taught his disciples on this.Rev20:12,john5:28, Dan 12:2,Nahum 1:9-10.

5.Resurrection is a sign of Christ victory over sin and death.

6.Resurrection is part of God's plan for salvation of man this was made manifest through Christ's death and resurrection,1Corinthians15:23-26,Luke20:35-38,John6:54.

7.Resurrection is a consequences of Man's fall that brought death and Christ sacrifice that brought eternal life, hence the  resurrection 1cor25:22, 2cor15:42.

8.Resurrection is a mark or seal to distinguish the just and the unjust,
The Bible states that their will be two resurrection. The first  resurrection which is the resurrection of the just and the second which occurs 1000yrs after the first and is called the resurrection of the unjust. Rev20:4-7,Rev20:12-15, john5:28-29.

In Conclusion.
As we have seen and learnt the resurrection is central to God's plan for  man's redemption, without the resurrection our faith is in vain  and as Apostle Paul puts it  we are of all men most miserable.
Thank God for his wonderful plan and Jesus who made it possible through his death and victory.
To God be all glory and honour.

Thank you for reading.

The resurrection is God's plan to reward the loyal ones (righteous) and those who only lived by conscience without formal knowledge of the true God, these ones God referred to as unrighteous!

Both will be resurrected back to life on planet earth NOT heaven! Act 24:15

God's original purpose for mankind is to live FOREVER on this planet, that's why all those faithful servants of God always talked about their hope of living again ON EARTH! Psalms 37:9-11, 29, Proverbs 2:20-21, Isaiah 65:21-25

But why did the story changed after the coming of Jesus the one called (Messiah)?

God's plan is for a government to be led by a PERFECT incorruptible human who will lead all obedient humans back to God {Isaiah 9:6-7} there is none of Adam's descendants who qualifies for this {Psalms 49:7-9} so God has to transform one of his angelic sons into an embryo and put him in the womb of a Jewish virgin.

This perfect man will
©Teach humans what God had in mind for creating them.
©Assemble a governing body in Jerusalem (the city where God chose for the sit of his government)
©Lay down his perfect human life as a ransom sacrifice for the sin brought upon humans by Adam.
©Resurrected and go back to his own home in heaven where he came from.
©His government will see to it that the earth is filled with the accurate knowledge of God.
©Disobedient ones will be exterminated by the resurrected Christ who will lead the angels in heaven to come and destroy all the enemies of God.

But Jerusalem has been profaned with the blood of so many faithful servants of God, the Jews kept killing all those sent to help them return to God's favour of having this government on their soil. Matthew 23:37-38

So Jesus begged his father for him to secure a place in heaven for this governing body who will be selected amongst his loyalists. John 17:1-26

Even Jesus' followers were devastated when he pronounced woe on Jerusalem (the place where they expected to stay and rule with him) that's why he revealed them the new plan! John 14:1-4, 15:15

That's how the idea of going to heaven became part of the plan, God will select only amongst the Christians who have been taught by his only begotten son to rule in heaven with the Christ.

Jesus said "of all those born by women there has never risen a man greater than John the baptist but the least in the kingdom is greater than John"
Matthew 11:11

This is so because John the baptist was the last prophet who saw and baptized the promised Messiah, but since he was not oppotuned to live as one of his students he can't be part of those going to heaven, his reward will be that of all other faithful servants of God before him which is a resurrection on planet earth.

John will be the greatest for two main reason!

First he is the one and only prophet who saw God's anointed one (Messiah) face to face, secondly John will be the only person who will tell us how Jesus really look like, his behaviour, his mother, brothers and sisters and so many other things we might wish to know about the man Jesus, because all the first century Christians who walked with Jesus were BORN AGAIN, meaning they're all going to heaven.

And none of those who live with him yet failed to believe in him will be resurrected back to life, they have been judged already {John 3:18} except the THIEF with whom Jesus personally made a promised of living in Paradise!

Thanks! smiley

There is no proof anywhere that anyone resurrects, so how do either of you differ!

And please don't tell me proof is "it is written in a book" unless you don't mean "dead" and "ressurect" in the literal sense!

And before either of you respond, read this, but note OLAADEGBU's observation!

There were records of resurrection in the Bible but they're not the type God's people are EXPECTING, because those whom God's kingdom will resurrect WILL NO MORE GROW OLD, rather they continue living until the moon is no more! Psalms 72:7

I don't suppose you've ever heard of Porgy and Bess by George Gershwin (September 26, 1898 – July 11, 1937). It isn't exactly mainstream.

You're not getting my point here, so try to meditate thoroughly before responding.

There are thousands of religious groups claiming worshipers of God on this planet. Each religion have their religious theory (doctrines).

But the one and only religious group working out what all eyes can see is the Jehovah's Witnesses organization. Matthew 5:14-16

That's what i'm saying, remember i was a Muslim when i noticed them so it's unlike the parable you're quoting when someone is justifying himself, in this case i'm seeing so many religions claiming they know God but the one and only group that's performing what is godly is what i'm saying! 2Timothy 3:5

This has nothing to do with groups or organizations, but all to do with understanding Scripture. And I obviously clearly get your point and vehemently disagree with you!

Any person who does not understand the parables of our Lord Jesus Christ and does the opposite of what Jesus clearly taught, is in error and must humble themself and accept correction, instead of trying to justify their error and in effect lead others astray. When degbu does the same "my priq is bigger and best than JW priqs", we tell him off and will tell you off to for doing the same.

Matthew 5:14-16 states "You are the Light of the world". It does not tell you to go about claiming you are the only light and everyone else's is darkness, which Luke 18:1-14 clearly states is not on!

Below is the relevant scripture. I have included JW refs. May the Lord shine Light into you.

Now about the thread's heading and question. Why there is a resurrection, in simple terms, is because the resurrection of our Lord and Saviour of the world Jesus Christ plays a pivotal role in propping up our faith in and/or assurance of victory over death. The resurrection bears testament to John 10:17-18 seen above. It proves that the whole essence of Jesus Christ, is not some empty talk, and that the resurrection serves, as a typical example of walk-the-talk.

Re: Why Is There A Resurrection? by shadeyinka(m): 12:27pm On Feb 04

Resurrection is defined as the raising of dead back to life .
The resurrection of the dead is paramount and central to Christ teachings and God's plan for Man's salvation.

Interestingly, both the good and the evil, the righteous and the unrighteous will be ressurected.

The reason is because God had designed man to be a trinity of Body, Soul and Spirit and live as one eternally. Otherwise, if consciousness exists after death, there wouldn't be a need for another resurrection.

Animals also have body, soul, spirit. So I don't know what's special here, neither does it mean they have life after death.

God design man . Who is a man ?

Do you mean they will go to heaven with newly given flesh and blood skins ?

Animals DO NOT have a spirit but they have their souls.

Why do you think only humans are LIVING SOULS?

Modified;
Your question:
1. Man is that physical being that God made in His image. And God is a spirit.
2. The bible speaks of a new Heaven and a new Earth.

Psalm 104:29 NASB

" You hide Your face, they are dismayed; You take away their spirit, they expire And return to their dust."

This confirms animals have spirit. Lie small small .

It also enforce the fact that Body, soul , spirit doesn't prove life after death . Neither does it not shatter the claim that man is in God's image mean being three of body, soul, spirit, or animals are in God's image too ?

" You hide Your face, they are dismayed; You take away their spirit, they expire And return to their dust."

This confirms animals have spirit. Lie small small .

It also enforce the fact that Body, soul , spirit doesn't prove life after death . Neither does it not shatter the claim that man is in God's image mean being three of body, soul, spirit, or animals are in God's image too ?

Same scripture:
Confirmation indeed
Ps 104:29-30:
"You hide Your face, they [are] troubled; You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; and You renew the face of the earth."

Animals DO NOT have a spirit but they have their souls.

Why do you think only humans are LIVING SOULS?

Modified;
Your question:
1. Man is that physical being that God made in His image. And God is a spirit.
2. The bible speaks of a new Heaven and a new Earth.

Man has a physical being is a Flesh and Blood creature. In a statement of Yeshua he said To Peter Flesh and Blood did not reveal it to you which means no human reveal it to you .

So the same Bible says Flesh and Blood cannot inherit Kingdom of God, is the new heaven a Kingdom of God or not ? How will ressurection now mean giving dead people fresh body of flesh and blood to live in heaven ?

You only successfully proved spirit means breath. NASB isn't wrong either.

Let's agree on some things
1. Is their resurrection?
2. Is the resurrection physical?

Rev 20:11-15:
"And I saw a great white throne, and Him sitting on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And a place was not found for them. And I saw the dead, the small and the great, stand before God. And books were opened, and another book was opened, [which is] the Book of Life. And the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead in it. And death and hell delivered up the dead in them. And each one of them was judged according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the Lake of Fire. This is the second death. And if anyone was not found having been written in the Book of Life, he was cast into the Lake of Fire."

Elaborate the point u are trying to make with the verse you quoted. Cos I don't see how it help the invalid notion of flesh and blood in heaven framework given you

I asked two questions and the scripture was highlighted to bring your attention to what happened to the dead

" You hide Your face, they are dismayed; You take away their spirit, they expire And return to their dust."
Psalm 104:29 NASB .

Is this a reference to God ?

1. Yes according to the Bible

2. It is not physical , it's sown a physical body [ human ] and raised a Spiritual body . Says Paul at 1Cor 15:42 . So where did you get the notion of ressurection means giving some mythical Spirit of the dead an human/physical body ?

Going by Shadeyinkas level of thinking, the statement " unclean spirit " would mean Unclean God.

1. Do snails, fish, bacteria and protozoa have spirits knowing that they do not breath like mammals, reptiles and amphibians?

My submission again:
Every living thing has a soul.
Humans in addition to their Soul have their Spirit.

Another question!
2. We know that angels and demons are not flesh and blood. Do these spirit beings have souls?
