tell us the name of the obas in Yoruba land that doesn’t use it as a title but are using it now please.

none were using it before the 20th century.. before the 20th century, Oba Sijuade will be called Ooni Sijuade and not Oba Sijuade so also Oba Adeyemi would have been called Alaafin Adeyemi and not Oba.. none was using the Oba title along with their names till around the begining of the 20th century.
That style was copied from Benin..

lol this edo boys self. Always jumping from one post to another. Anybody with even half sense will know that the word oba is yoruba with all the evidence like the otunba, oja oba, abobaku and co. Even Joba when a new king is installed. It’s clear as Bleep.

no mind that guy coming up with made up story. It’s fact that oba doesn’t mean shit in edo while it does in Yoruba along with several other words that relates to oba.

That is what I'm saying..
He was called Alafin Sango and not Oba Sango..
you guys should just admit.. the styling of Oba as a title was adopted from Benin.. The word Oba may be as old as your language just likewise as in Edo.. but as a title it is new to you.

see painment. U said ur king is omo noba nedo the shining one. Oba means king. The kings market is called oja oba all over yoruba land. The right hand man of the king is called otunba. Those who are buried with the king in the olden days of oyo are called abobaku. But according to edo “YoRuBa BORoweD ThE WorD iN tHe 20Th CeNtuRY

All this does not mean anything if there was never a connection between both party

The truth is that they actually know all these things that Oba is Yoruba, that the Edos dont have the word Oba, etc.

Guess what!? They are just timid, insecure, and gripped hard by inferiority complex.

fact. How can anybody say the word oba is not Yoruba and borrowed is very ridiculous. How can a word be borrowed when it has a meaning in the language and plenty of others in the Yoruba language relate to it. On the other hand how can someone claim a word if it doesn’t mean shit in ur language.

[quote author=Moneywomen17 post=89398164] my guy TA011 already proved it to u. So don’t derail the point we are making regarding the word oba. Meanwhile the word Oba is yoruba cuz it doesn’t mean shit in edo language. [/quote

Lol, no evidence

Gayboy answer the challenge its waiting for you for $700 for each.

Don't miss out!

(1) Provide any document from 1500 to 1930 to prove that your ancestor Ekaladerhan really existed.

(2) Provide any document from 1500 to 1930 to prove that Eweka has parents /s.

(3) Provide any document from 1500 to 1930 to prove that Eweka coined the word "Oba" for the Edos after the Yorubas have been using the word for millennia.

You have a prize of $700 to grab if you prove any one of the foregoing.

They are Obas (rulers) no doubt but were not using the word Oba as a title.. only the Benin kings were called Oba as a title.. The yorubas trying to equate themselves with the Powerful kings of Benin adopted the Oba title..

if there was no connection how then did we borrowed the word oba from u. Why does ur oba claim his ancestors came from Ife. Why does he say he is number 40 king cuz oranmiyan was number cuz I don’t seem to remember Yoruba putting a gun to his head to say it. Why does ur edo son egrhaveba who wrote a book where his source according to him is the king and chiefs and lot of prominent families in edo wrote that ur king head is buried in ife and ur king came from ife. Cuz last time I checked those people are not Yoruba.

The words ade, uwa, egbe, all have meanings in both Edo and Yoruba languages.. If tomorrow Edo uses any of these words as a powerful title, I bet the yorubas will immediately adopt the title too and start claiming its a Yoruba word only and Edo borrowed it.. we know what you guys are capable of..

they are not obas but they have oja oba and otunba? They have their orikis but oba is the only word for king. Only Lagos is doing what you are accusing everyone of. All Yoruba obas are addressed with their orikis or styles

ade in Yoruba is crown what does it mean in edo. Egbe in Yoruba is like society or community I don’t know what u mean by uwa but if it’s iwa it’s character. With that said oba means king in Yoruba but in ur language it has no meaning so how does what u wrote make sense.

Then why is Sijuade addressed as Oba Sijuade or Ogunwusi addressed as Oba Ogunwusi? they should have been addressed as Ooni Sijuade or Ooni Ogunwusi and not Oba..
